maryhou Posted November 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2008 Is this by chance located by the port?
BillB48 Posted November 25, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2008 The Free Zone is in Colon, but not located by the port.
wwinfl91 Posted December 15, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 15, 2008 Also the free trade area is a group of warehouse type buildings that are used for commercial trading. It is not an area where an individual can go and get individual items. Here is a link that talks about it. http://www.businesspanama.com/investing/cfz/reasons_cfz.php and here's another one http://www.colonfreezone.com/ and one last one http://www.zonalibre.info/en/freezone-colon.html I don't think you can even go there unless you have a pass or some sort of permission from one of the companies that are based there. Good luck and have a great next cruise.
Jesterscourt Posted December 19, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 19, 2008 There is a tremendous duty-free zone and a large shopping center located in Colon which you will probably pass by on your way back from a tour, but I am not sure it is accessible on one's own. In addition, this is not the safest town to walk around alone in. I do know the Duty Free area is responsible for a major rush hour traffic jam that most of us got caught in returning to the ship after a day's excursion.
