tbbtravels Posted July 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2014 I take a rolling walker when I cruise. I don't know when I will have a bad day. Can't stand in lines well on my good days. Keep saying I am bringing my scooter - but I just bring the rollater each time and do well with it.
LondonTowner Posted July 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2014 I have limited mobility and find that cruising is very suitable for me. We hardly ever do any ship excursions as they are very over priced. I enjoy the research on sorting everything myself. I'd say, go for it.
b7440 Posted July 30, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2014 Not sure what happened to you to lose your mobility, I was taken ill one day and 7 months later I was alive but lost the use of my right leg. I use a walker most of time, it took me 3 years to buy a scooter, best thing I ever did. My wife and I are going on our Thrid cruise this Nov. My point is I had a friend ask me to stop thing about what I can no longer do, but to think about what you can do, and then get out and do it! Takeing a cruise is a great vacation for the mobility challenged. Get out and enjoy. You just have to plan--- that is what is great about Cruise Critic. cjankowski Posted July 30, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2014 My husband uses a walker, cane, scooter to move about the ship. It is not hard and he enjoys cruising so much. People usually are very nice and we have never had a problem. You can find handicap excursions and/or plan things on your own. Enjoy your time and do not give up on cruising for any reason. rbrugler Posted July 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2014 Do not hesitate to book an accessible room. I suggest bringing both a rollator, with a seat, and rent a scooter. Not all ports can handle scooters, and as you remember, the ships are incredibly long. Have a wonderful time!!!
dorisis Posted August 1, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Husband uses a small scooter and a cane to take a few steps. I use a cane for balance. We don't do much touring anymore but till enjoy cruising.
DonnasMom&Dad Posted August 1, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 1, 2014 We used to camp quite a bit, 42 years in fact, then in 2004 we had to quit, as I developed arthritis. Then in 2008 our daughter suggested we go on a cruise for my 75th birthday, although I had no interest in cruising, we went anyway, with another 9 family and friends. As we didn’t know much about cruising, and especially not about the accessible side of it, like W/C cabine and such, but I was able to borrow a wheel chair, from the ship, we did learn quite a lot, so 5/6 months later, when we thought we’d try it again, We got a W/C cabin and I rented a scooter, and things went much better. ;) I now have my own scooter, a “TravelScoot ll”, my second one, and I rent a larger unit fot shore use. On Aug. 05, we’re heading out on our 30th cruise, in under 6 years, with my trusted TravelScoot, and an accessible cabin. Cato :) Completed Cruises !
