Safe transfer from Sheraton Hotel to ship at port

At the moment I am booked into the Lima Sheraton Hotel & Convention Center independently so I do not have access to the Holland American transfer. I know the port is dicey. Does anyone have a safe and reliable recommendation for getting there on December 2? I have already had one transfer option turn me down. Do the cruise companies have their people at the entrance to the port?
