Aruba for photography

Going later in the year and I am planning what I could do on the island as the ship is there for a day till late evening. My main interest is photography but I am getting the feeling by what I have seen online that its more of a beach/sea sports type of place if anybody can confirm this? I would do a tour but I am not sure what would be suitable for me to visit in way of architecture, street photography, lush mountains etc. At least if I know in advance I can just call it a beach day.

Oh my gosh! You couldn't be more wrong about Aruba :). Yes, the beaches are a big draw, but the other side of the island is a desert with jagged cliffs, crashing surf, caves, natural stone bridges, huge rock formations, tons of interesting cacti, roaming wild donkeys and interesting birds. No trip to Aruba would be complete without a trip to the wild side for us! We vacation for 2 - 3 weeks in Aruba every year. My advice to you is to contact a tour guide and taxi driver named Bully for a private, personal tour. We use Bully every trip. His tours are amazing, and he will tailor it to your specific interests. I HIGHLY recommend him!!! I will post a link later today of some reviews by other cruisers who have used him. Be sure and contact him right away because he books up quickly. The rates are $45.00 per hour, which are set by the govt. Most of his tours are 3 - 4 hours, but he can adjust to your needs. You won't be sorry! His email is bullytaxi@hotmail.com. Also, I forgot to mention all of the beautiful Dutch influenced architecture around the island, along with the Aruban cunucu houses!

We are NOT beach people and I also am an avid photographer. This was our first visit to Aruba and since we didn't want to go to the wonderful beaches, we opted for a tour with Sonny. He was wonderful and his tours are well worth the money, Since it isn't a private tour, you can do 4 hours for a fraction of what a private tour will cost and still see most of what makes Aruba so wonderful.

Thanks for the kind words on the Pixs.

We have been to OBX several times, but always off season. As I said before, we are not beach people, but we love to walk the beaches in the late fall and winter when no one is around. (We hate the crowds also). Great lighthouses also, got some amazing pixs of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at sunset and another with the fog rolling in. Great area and can't wait to go back.
