Snorkeling masks?

For our day in Progreso, we plan to do a tour of Merida and then go to the Progreso beach for an hour or two. Is it worth it to bring our snorkeling masks and tubes with us? I've heard it's not a great place to snorkel but would we see anything if we brought our masks with us?
