Belize - Bacab Eco park - Thoughts ?

This is listed as a "Ship Tour" - Anyone have experience with this "Tour".

Is it possible to take a cab there (How much ?) and independently pay admittance ?

I would love to avoid the "Ship-Tour" scene and maximize our time there.

We would also do the Horse back riding and Canoeing as well.

Anyone familiar ?

- Cave Tubing - Option (Via Local tour) is our second option.

Thanks

Bring Bug spray!

One reason to use a ship tour is the distance. It can take between 40 minutes to an hour to reach the park depending on traffic and road conditions. If you take a taxi, you'll have to arrange for the taxi to return at a certain time for you to come back to the tender pier (at least 1 hour prior to the last tender time for your ship) and you're at the risk of the driver not showing up.

Taxi fare could be around $35 pp each way. (About what it costs to the zoo.) Some fares are fixed by the Belize taxi association but others could be negotiated with the driver.

I can't speak to the admission fees but the park does have a website and you can reach out to them for information on entrance fees and separate tours. www.bacabecopark.com

About 3 years ago I did the horseback riding excursion there. It was a lot of fun. Afterwards we had a really good buffet lunch and had time to swim in the pool or just relax. It was kind of a rainy day, so we didn't swim, but the pool looked really nice. :)

Crewsweeper- Is it really $35 a person for a taxi ??? Or is it $35 for the family ?

Hazelroo - Did you go to the park as a ship optional or on your own ?

Did you prefer it to the "Cave-Tubing"

I think it's per taxi. My apologies for indicating per person, my last rip was a single person trip to the airport.:o

We took the excursion offered by the ship (Carnival). It was our first time to Belize and we knew it was a bit of a drive so we went through the ship to play it safe. When I go back in April we are doing cave tubing with .bz.

HazelRoo - We are stopping at Belize over Christmas - (RCCL)

Given the choice would your recommend the Park or Tubing (cave tubing with .bz)

If you went on your own - how did you and/or work with the Tender since Ship Tours have priority ?

thanks
