travlnblueberries Posted October 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2014 We are on the Coral Princess next week. The itinerary has the following listed: Panama Canal (Partial Transit) 6:00am - 3:30pm Colon, Panama 5:00pm - 8:00pm What I'm asking is, we have a ship tour "Walking and Scenic Tour of Old Panama City". At what point do we get off the ship, and how much will we miss of actually going through the locks?
BillB48 Posted October 11, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2014 The ship (and you) will lock through Gatun Locks into Gatun Lake. nce in the Lake the ship will go to the Gatun Lake anchorage which is not far from Gatun Locks. At this point you will tender of the ship to begin your shore excursion. The part that you will miss is the trip back through Gatun Locks and the short sail to the pier in Colon... most of this trip is over ground you will have covered in your morning lockage up to Gatun Lake. You will re board the ship at Colon after returning from the Pacific side.

BillB48 Posted October 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Thank you Bill for replying. It doesn't sound like we would miss too much, right? No, you really won't be missing much at all by taking your shore excursion since you would be mainly retracing your route from that morning if you stayed on the ship. While not trying to sell Gatun Locks short as they are impressive in their own right, I think there is much more to see going through the Pacific Locks and Gaillard Cut... good use of your short time in Panama!
