How Long?

How long would you say from the time the wedding was over. Did you have TOTAL for your reception? I read in all of the Reviews that U do the 1st dance,cut cake, drinks, dinner, dance. But how long in time wise?? I think most weddings start at 1 or 130 then end about 3 or 330 (and most of u say that the wedding part is like 15 mins, so does that mean I get 2.5 hours to 3 to do reception stuff???

I'm pleading with my coordinator to try and get my wedding to start at 12:30. That way I just might be able to extend the reception until 3, and get 2 hours of reception time. 1.5 is just not long enough.

Shatima, to answer your question it's about 1.5 to 2 hours. I really wouldn't suggest trying to bump your wedding up to start at 12:30, you really need that time to get ready and pull yourself together. I figured the same thing, why can't we start at 12:30, my hair and make-up was done ahead of time. But in the end, a 1pm start is just enough time. Here's why, your guests need to get settled, you and your groom need to meet with the officiant (seperately) and you have to sign your marriage certificate.

The ceremony is about 15-20 minutes. Then all the guests have to file out and walk to the reception area. You will need time to do after ceremony pictures with family and for you and your new husband to make your grand entrance into the reception.

We told our co-ordinator that we didn't want the standard run down. Upon entrance you go immediately into the first dance, then the cake cutting, then the toast, then food. We changed it so that we would do the first dance and open the buffet. Half way thru we did the cake cutting and toast. We didn't want the cake to be served right away.

Also, the dj never made an announcement so my guests didn't know when they were supposed to leave. They finally got off at 3:45 because security told them too.

I wish I had it on video, it was really funny them arguing with my sister.

Not to hijack your thread, Shatima.. but does anyone know the order of service if you have the piano player and not the DJ?

I boarded the ship around 12:10 or so....I think I might have had about 1/2 hour to get dressed. the photographer will go to your room before the ceremony - and they will definitely make sure you are walking down that aisle at 1pm. our ceremony was maybe 20 mins, if that. then a short reception line, and the guests had strict instructions NOT to wait for us - and to make their way to the disco for the reception and starting drinking, eating and dancing....after all, you are paying for all of that!! after we had our other photos taken - we made our way upstairs. I think the guests were escorted out around 3:15 or so.

12:10...wow that's a long wait time. I really hope I don't have to wait that long to board the ship. My arrival time is 9:30, which is actually 9 for me, since I'm trying to get there before the groom.

So to wait from 9 am until 12, that's a long, long time.

(I have a book, so I'll try to keep busy).

But I agree with you, jul1221, if I didn't board until 12:10, the idea of trying to get ready in 20 minutes is just not realistic.

However, my personal planner is creating two time lines, one for early boarding on the ship and one for late boarding on the ship.

Of course I'm really hoping to get the early timeline.

Our limo dropped us off at the terminal at 10am and we were boarding around 11:15am. 9am might be a little to early to get there because all of the people on the ship have to get off. Self assist debarkation usually doesn't even start until 8:30.

I don't know how far you are traveling to get to the terminal but you might want to push is back a little. You really don't want to be sitting in the terminal for 2-3 hours.

Have you gone over your hair and make-up timeline with your stylist yet? We live an hour outside of NYC, our limo picked us up at 8:45. My stylist was at my house at 5am to do hair and make-up. Just considering that alone, I definitly would push back your p/u time.
