Heathrow Airport Wheelchair Serivice

We will be flying into Heathrow airport soon. We will be using wheelchairs. Does anyone know what we should tip the person that transports us.

I usually tip US$5. My friends say it is not expected. I did not encounter any refusal though. I do the same thing flying out.

We have used it, and very good it was too. I gave the guy a couple of GBP; I got the impression that he wasn't expecting it.

We do tip the wheelchair person, however we had a bad experience at Heathrow, I gather that it is quite common. Last year we flew via Heathrow to Singapore, but the wheelchair did not turn up for the connection, and we missed the flight. We were put on the next one and didn't have adjacent seats, my meal was not available, disaster. On the plus side we stayed with all the crew on the first flight until the wheelchair guy turned up. They said it was a frequent problem. I would never fly via Heathrow again for this reason and I gather Gatwick is just as bad, one well known case of a BBC journalist who was stuck on the plane for several hours waiting for assistance.

Thank you all for your replies. We can walk, but long distances, plus all the luggage would be extremely difficult. I will not have small change in pounds when we first get there and I didn't know if they would take US.
