libra-sue Posted August 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2006 This was in todays paper in th UK: ''Security on british based cruise ships has soared to its highest-ever level, with military-grade sonic weapons put on board for the first time yesterday. A long range acoustic device oor LRAD, was on standby as passengers boarded p&o's OCEANA in Southampton. It's a high tech loudhailer whose soundwaves disable and disorientate people up to 1,000ft away. The device is used by the military to stop boats approaching naval vessels. Its vibrations can knock people off their feet. All luggage loaded onto the ship was also checked elctronically and by sniffer dogs. Most security officers on UK cruise ships are ex-soldiers from the British Army's ferocious Gurkha Rifles. Oceana sailed last night on a 2 week cruise to the western Med.'' Heads !!!! Posted August 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 12, 2006 This sexy little device has actually been on board for some time (I was working on Oceana when they got it). Pretty much all cruise ships have them these days.
coastiedee Posted August 13, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2006 They used this device while i was on Aurora's world cruise this year. They put it up just before we reached Asia and took it down when we left the middle east.
