JandKMom Posted April 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2014 This is offered as an excursion by Celebrity Cruises. Has anyone taken this? Looking for something for my wheelchair bound mother and her aide. Celebrity advertises it as "starting at $99.00" a person. I found an independent accessible van tour operator as well, Keith Simmons, but his price is per tour, not per person, and is much more expensive for just two people. Thanks in advance! vickila Posted April 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2014 On scooter have done both. If Celebrity uses Unique Vacations, it s a ten person mini bus with a lift. Good company and nice sightseeing tour, not too much off time. Easy vision from w/c. Judith and husband Robin run it. Friendly, informative. Keith uses a mini van with center ramp. More stopping freedom but visibility not as good as bus. Enjoyed both but for your Mom would chose cruiseline option for safety, timing, etc. Vicki
JandKMom Posted April 27, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted April 27, 2014 Thank you Vicki! I put in the request with the cruise line, so hopefully they will have availability. I agree it sounds like the most sensible option. If for some reason they cannot accommodate us, I will give Keith a call I am happy to hear you have done both, so I feel like either way we will end up with something good! JandKMom Posted April 27, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted April 27, 2014 Oh and yes, they say it is a 10 person bus, so it must be the same one.

Starting at $99.00 per person means that's the price if 10 people book the tour as the mini bus hold 10 passengers. Rate person increases as the passenger count decreases. Very often the Cruise Lines tour becomes cost prohibitive due to the lack of number booking the tour.
vickila Posted April 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2014 Bus company deals with Norwegian and Royal who may be there also. Uniquevacations.com. Generally all combine. Due to fuel costs you may have to take ferry to Hamilton. Do not be put off by this. It is easy and delightful. Having been to Bermuda many times .....nothing is reasonable. It really is a safe, convenient, pleasurable option and I for one was happy to have two options to choose from. Sometimes you just have to take the plunge and accept "whatever the traffic will bear". JandKMom Posted April 27, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted April 27, 2014 I did ask a phone rep at Celebrity what "starting at $99" meant and he said that it just meant prices may go up slightly, but I suspect he didn't know what he was talking about. This was a regular reservations rep at the 800 number, not an excursion specialist. If the price is way higher, we will probably just go for the 3 hour tour with Keith Simmons for $225. His 5 hour tour was $350 which is way more than my mom wants to spend. There is actually a restriction on the 10 person bus tour to wheelchair and scooter users plus only one companion due to space restrictions, so I get a feeling that it tends to fill up. I hope so. I really want something nice for my mom to do.
grab007 Posted April 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 29, 2014 We went with one of Keith's tours last Sept. Price was the same as noted above. The price is fixed for one wheelchair (located in the front passenger area) and the three others squeezed in the back seat. So per person price is better than the bus. Also, you have the flexibility of going wherever you want to go. If you get tired you can just go back to the ship. You can eat wherever you want also. We suggest the White Horse pub in St. Georges. Great food and accessible! Have fun!
JandKMom Posted April 29, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks for the info. There would only be 2 people going on the tour, my mom and her aide (my kids would be bored on a bus tour, so my mom and I decided that we would do something different while she went on the tour), so it actually ends up being higher. I haven't heard back from the cruise line yet, so it is all up in the air what we will go with.
