Any other suggestions? Karen Hi Karen, The ships are docked right in the middle of town. A taxi cost us NZD50-55 when we were there last January. Regards, Steve. KiwiIan Posted August 10, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2005 We're trying to find the best way to get from the International terminal to the Cruise ship, we've researched the Airbus to get into the city. Any other suggestions? Karen Yes, Airbus is a cheaper way to the city $15.00 single, £22.00 RTN go to www.airbus.co.nz for info. Taxi prices are from about $40.00 [depends on exact destination and traffic]. A better class of taxi can be had by using a Corporate Cab [there are a number of companies] these are large limo/sedans and you get a better service for slightly more $$$, your hotel should be able to book these for you, some have their own limos and shuttles as well. You can also try some of the shuttle bus services, these are good for larger groups as you can often negotiate a good rate if you fill the bus. We dont have a Rapid Transit System yet in Auckland. Hope that helps.
sheba376 Posted August 11, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted August 11, 2005 Thanks for the replies, Steve or Ian - How long does the taxi take from the terminal to the Airport or vice versa. The airbus states it's a 60 min trip. Karen

Karen Its one of those [how big is a hole question] and totally depends on the time of day, day of the week, weather, number of accidents etc. From the downtown cruise ship berth to the airport is between 30 and 60 minutes depending upon the above. Quicker in a taxi usually, as long as you get a good one [one who speaks english and knows where he is going]. I am not being racist but with the deregulation of the Auckland taxis a few years back, the city is now flooded with some pretty poor examples of ineptitude. An issue for the locals as well as toursits, thats why i suggested booking a Corporate Cab, for a few $$$ more you are assured of a good service, it could even work out cheaper as we have heard from some of our tour clients that they got given an unwanted tour over the harbour bridge to the north shore when they just wanted to go straight to the ship, and of cousre we being charged on the meter for every Km driven. Avoid the rush hour, Friday and Sunday afternoons or public holidays and it should be closer to 30minutes. Regards Ian

The cost was NZD48.00 + 5 dollars airport charge. (for taxis originating from the airport). Tipping is not really required in NZ, but two or three dollars are usually well received. The return journey to the airport was about $47. (and did not include the 5 dollar charge) This was about midday Saturday, so the traffic wasn't too bad. (about 35 mins). The drivers were local, very friendly and the cabs were clean. What time of day are you flying in? I take it you are going straight to the ship? The cruise ships dock right in the centre of the city. sheba376 Posted August 12, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted August 12, 2005 Thanks once again for the info. We are flying in about 6:20am on the morning of the cruise so we probably dont want to get to the ship in the 30 mins I'd be guessing. Will have to have more of a think about getting out to the ship. Dont want to be in the crush of people disembarking. Karen
Rare boards Posted August 13, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 13, 2005 Why would you not take the transfer the cruise line is offering? Especially if you are going directly from the airport to the cruise terminal. Is there a reason you might not want to do that?
DanFromSyd Posted September 20, 2005 #9 Share Posted September 20, 2005 We took a cab from the cruise terminal to the airport and bargained the cab driver to $30 NZ. Trip took about 40 mins from memory. That was middle morning 11am on a weekday.
