cujosmom Posted December 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2004 The Galaxy is currently at Cristobal Pier in Panama. We have had beautiful weather so far...no rain at all. When we got to the pier in Galveston we were informed we were not going to Montego Bay but to Ochos Rios....no explantation why. For those thinking of going to the Monkey Farm in Costa Maya, most of the monkeys have been released back to the jungle and there were only four adult ones and they were in cages so you could not hold or pet them. So cross that off your list. The ship looks to be in good condition although a little wear is showing. The staff is especially nice. Food and service has been excellent so far. On this sailing most people opted for main dining seating and the late seating is quite empty. We are in late seating. Can't think of anything else right now. We are having a great time. Will be posting a full review when I return.

cujosmom Posted December 12, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted December 12, 2004 Today we are in Costa Rica. We are in the town and just got back from the zip line tour at Almonds and Corals. It was a blast! We had made arrangements with Oscar Brown but ended up with his nephew Ryan as we were doing the zip lines and the others were not. The car ride to and from A&C was more scary than the zip lines as he had a heavy foot and bumpy roads...but he was a good guide nonetheless. We were able to hold a sloth and take lots of pictures. We went to banana plantation and saw a monkey. Price was worth every penny. Sea Day tomorrow and then Grand Cayman and then to Jamaica. The days are flying by too fast and we´ll be back to Galveston way too soon. I´m here with San/Del and they say HI too. By the way, Celebrity does not give prizes for trivia, etc. on ¨port¨ days including the afternoon of Costa Maya. Prizes are only given on sea days. We are not happy about that!! Cruise Director, John Challenger, came from HAL and brought ¨ship building¨contest and finding ¨Mr and Mrs Galaxy¨. So if you want to win shipbuilding contest, be sure to bring supplies with you! Bring your summer clothes...it´s steamy down here. No rain all cruise..yea! That´s all for now. Marty and Sandy
Deb C. Posted December 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 12, 2004 Copied: "By the way, Celebrity does not give prizes for trivia, etc. on ¨port¨ days including the afternoon of Costa Maya. Prizes are only given on sea days. We are not happy about that!! " Probably the statement should be, Galaxy does not give prizes....... I was on Zenith last month and we got prizes on port day contests. They probably make up their own rules per ship. Were they still giving out the Celebrity pens that look very nice but don't work? We boycotted them last month saying not to give them out to us anymore since they won't write!;) Had lots of fun with the contests! Hopefully you did, too!:D
Artemis Posted December 13, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 13, 2004 We've never done HAL--can anyone elaborate on the shipbuilding contest? Thanks so much for the live reports, cujosmom. We'll be boarding when you disembark.
Deb C. Posted December 13, 2004 #7 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Build a ship of anything you can find--on board or on the islands. Make sure it can float. For the contest day, they make up a cute story to go with the ship (be sure to name it). Float it in the pool. Then they add cans of pop to see how many it will hold until it sinks or overturns. There are judges. Can't remember all the categories: style, creative, floatworthiness, etc. Pax seem to enjoy watching the final judgings!!:)
a68vet Posted December 14, 2004 #8 Share Posted December 14, 2004 Howdy Cujosmom! Glad to hear from you, and that you are having a good time onboard Galaxy. We will be on there next April and can't wait! Got a question about the ships music and dance venues.......we do ballroom dance mostly and on the Rhapsody found the Centrum to be great for dancing each night. The ship and the sea are our primary destinations...the people we meet are next important part to a great cruise, and the ports are punctuations! (jmho) Yall have a great time! We are FREEZING HERE! a68vet
