Question for William Lawson about national holiday.

I never suspected that anyone would know or care about Benito Juarez birthday here!

While a national holiday, which means possible bank closures and school activities, there is no national celebration like during 15 of September (Mexican Independence) or 5 of May (Battle of Puebla where the French were defeated by Mexican forces).

Benito Juarez is still seen as a controversial figure to this day because a) he was an "Indian" (what was he thinking!) and b) he greatly reduced the influence and power of the Catholic church, which still miffs some people in this country who continue to believe that the church in this country was/is a force for good, when clearly it was/is not.

Does this help?

Read about Benito Juarez here:

Cheers!
