sevenseassailor Posted March 1, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2014 We will be starting and ending our 28 day cruise in these two cities and spending couple of days in each. I know Oslo is expensive and suspect Stockholm is also. Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced, GOOD restaurants in these cities? Staying in Radisson Blu Scandinavia in Oslo and Hilton in Stockholm.
Desdichado62 Posted March 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2014 I don't know of that many restaurants in Stockholm and those I know of are probably not considered as reasonably priced. Note that I have not eaten at any of these: First there is the restaurant called Den Gyldene Freden (in English: The Golden peace) it has a very special interior environment and is located in Gamla Stan. kaisatsu Posted March 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) It depends on your definitions of "good" and "reasonable!" ;) If you're looking for haute cuisine, most people say great things about Michelin-starred Maaemo, but I haven't been, and at kr 2050/person (without drinks) you might want to save the finest dining for a less expensive country. For a nice dinner, I can recommend Dinner (Chinese-inspired cuisine), which typically runs around kr 400-600/person. Lofoten is similarly priced and offers nice seafood at the Aker Brygge waterfront. (I have been underwhelmed with Theatercafeen, Bølgen & Moi, and Ekeberg Restauranten given their reputations.) In the more moderate range (kr 200-300 for a main dish), Christiania Cafe is a good option in the very center of the city (and I believe has slightly less expensive lunch options). Holmenkollen Restaurant is a decent choice for a view. (You're still paying for the scenery, but the markup isn't as bad as the more famous Frognerseteren in my opinion.) And if you're not set on Norwegian cuisine, the Brasserie Blanche is excellent. And to help alleviate the sticker shock, there are still some great places in the 150-200 range. I usually recommend Lorry pub for the traditional Norwegian dishes and historic atmosphere (this is where the politicians and mediamen have traditionally mingled together). It's also not far from the Radisson Scandinavian. Mother India is a small restaurant that serves some of the city's best Indian food (and we've tried most of them over the years). Villa Paradiso does great Italian style pizzas, but I also really like Cin Cin, which is in the same building as the Bislett Bad swimming pool and has a large area for patio seating in the summer. Lastly, there are plenty of great places to eat with main dishes around 125-150, but it depends on what you're looking for. Tullins Cafe across the street from your hotel is a fairly basic cafe, but surprisingly inexpensive for Oslo. There are some great no-frills Asian restaurants on the east side of the city center (e.g. Rice Bowl, Far East, Taste of China). Illegal Burger has very little seating and a long wait, but they focus on local ingredients and do a fairly okay burger for Oslo. And you'll find a sushi take-away around nearly every corner in Oslo, so you can get your fill of salmon nigiri! Winters Gate Posted March 2, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 2, 2014 Since you surely will visit the Vasa museum, I would recommend restaurant Oaxen also located on Djurgarden not far from the museum http://oaxen.com/slip/?lang=en they have fantastic food at reasonably prices. I would also recommend The Flying Elk located in the Old Town not far from your hotel, they serve a kind of Bistro / Pubfood in fine dining style, and they have a good range of exciting beer varieties http://www.theflyingelk.se/
