? about flying to Cape Liberty or staying in NY few days

We are doing the 5 nigh Bermuda cruise in September does anyone have any recommendations about getting to Cape Liberty from the airport. Transfers from the Newark Int Airport runs about $50 pp. That is much higher than transfers from Miami airport to the pier. Debating whether we want to fly in a couple days early but not sure where to stay to enjoy NY and then get to the pier easy.

Any ideas please???

Take a cab from Newark Intl Airport. $25-$30 and not per person.
