Renaissance Resort Question

For those of you that have been to the private island at the Renaissance Resort; Some of the reviews that I've read talk about large amounts of mosquitos on this island and that if you don't slather on the repellent you will get bit up. Did you find that this was the case? It is always this way or does time of year have something to do with it? We were thinking about getting a day pass there when we stop at the end of October, but don't want to have to fight hoards off mosquitos.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Rich

When there have been rain showers in Aruba the mosquitos will come out. With the passing of Dean, Felix and a tropical wave earlier in the week, the island has been a little wetter than normal. I have a friend who is there right now and says it is "buggier" than usual...IMHO and hers... nothing a good bug repellent like "OFF" would not take care of. Go and enjoy! :)

My husband was always a "mosquito magnet" and would end up with huge welts until someone told us to take a High-B-Complex vitamin. That was 3 years ago and neither of us has been bitten since, and we live along a gully. Evidently, your body excretes the Vitamin B, leaving a scent that we can't sense, but mosquitoes hate it. Start taking it about a week before you go. I asked the Dr. if it is harmful, and he said as long as you don't take 7-8 pills a day for a long time, you're fine

We just returned from Adv. of the Seas Cruise--We were on Aruba 10/17 and went to the Marriotts private Island--Rennaissance --The cost was $75. per person--This got you a boat ride from inside the Hotel Lobby to the island, a wonderful lunch and a drink each. The island was spectacular with no mosquitoes or bugs. The great thing is that it is about a 5 minute walk from the ships docking place to the hotel. Walk off the ship--pass all the car rental places--go right at 1st main street--walk down about 3 blocks--Marriott on left. On your way out to the island, you'll have a great view of the ship. On the island were Pink Flamingos walking around, lots of Iguanas (Pretty much in one area where they are fed) a great restaurant, lounge chairs, hammocks, thatched shelter areas a volleyball net set up, available floats and free towels. All in all, a great way to spend a day in Aruba comparable in cost with any of the ships excursions but a better bargain because so few people realize the island is available. The boat ride to and from the island is spectacular. Have your camera ready--You are going to want to take pix--Mike OB
