Thoughts on the "coveted" 6145 & 6146 Sky Suites on Millennium class ships

We are just back from a 13 night Canada/New England cruise on the Constellation and we stayed in one of the “coveted” sky suites - 6145. For those that may not be familiar with them, suites #6145 & 6146 on the Millennium class ships are attached to the penthouse suites and are larger and more luxurious than a “normal” sky suite. They also feature a huge bathroom with separate tub, a large shower and twin sinks. The balcony is much larger than a normal sky suite balcony and features 2 chairs, a table and a lounger.

My purpose in writing this is to point out a few shortcomings that you might want to consider before taking this room. First, it is dark. Part of what makes the room feel so luxurious is the dark woods. Walnut furniture and moldings are attractive but definitely make the room feel darker. The ceiling has total of (5) recessed lights as opposed to the (9) in the ceiling of a smaller “normal” sky suite that another member of our group had. There is a pole lamp next to the couch that the normal sky suite did not have. There were bedside lamps on both sides of the bed (same as a regular sky suite) but that was it. At night, in order to be comfortable reading I had to sit right under the pole lamp next to the couch. The room also has a single (swinging) door leading to the veranda so there is not as much light coming in from outside as in a normal sky suite where almost the whole wall is a sliding glass door. We were on the Canada/New England cruise and the overcast sea days probably contributed to the dark feel of the room. In a sunny itinerary the room might not feel as dark.

The other negative is the storage. The closet is REALLY small. It might hold a total of 10 or 12 of the wooden hangers X provides. We asked our butler if he could come up with anything we could hang extra clothes on. He gave us one of those rolling carts valets use to take your luggage to your room and we were able to hang our clothes on the bar on that. The only negative to that solution was that the only place to put it was in the foyer. It interfered with the cabin door opening more than about ½ way but it made things workable. Not an attractive solution, but it was a solution. We were on a 13 day Canada/New England cruise with bulky warm clothes, if you are going to the Caribbean or some other sunny itinerary it might not be as big a problem. Other storage is the drawers in the desk/dressing table. (four of them only 2”deep?? along with 2 that were maybe 4” deep and two that were about 6” deep) The drawers were much more like desk drawers than dressing table drawers in a regular sky suite. In addition, there were shelves in the bottom of the credenza that holds the TV and 2 smallish shelves in the closet. More drawers would have been nice. The drawers in a “regular” sky suite desk/dressing table seemed more useful.

Lastly, there is only ONE plug other than the one that is part of the attached hairdryer in the bathroom that says it is to be used only for electric razors. That one plug is on the mirror above the desk. I bought a plug strip in our first port. Also at least some of the sky suites are cabled for internet connections – this one is not.

Overall it is a beautiful room, luxurious, large and comfortable. Would I book it again??? Not sure. Definitely not for a relatively long, cold weather, clothes intensive cruise like ours. Warm weather itinerary, probably.

Hope this is useful information

Best,

Bruce
