Anyone ever had a cruise line convert the second pre-paid gratuities into OBC?
-
I was looking at some Diversa/Day-To-Night earrings on the ship and in port. For those unaware, its a center stone surrounded by a smaller square of individual diamonds that drops down to go from gorgeous studs to chandelier earrings. On the ship the 'deal' they wanted to give me was $1,700. Two days after I got home I went to my local jeweler's, Jared's, and purchased an exquisite set for $1,100. Suffice to say I think DInternational is overpriced and an easy way to get cruisers to spend money on what maybe quality material but certainly not affordable pricing. Also if anything goes wrong with your jewelry, you want it cleaned, you want it reset - who do you go to?

Here is the current offering for booking on board.
The amount of OBC is equal to your deposit.
Oh that's great - thank you Ken!

I saw that Independence was offering up to $500 in OBC for cruises booked while on the ship, which looked nice but I think that was for the biggest staterooms and then going down. Without a way to confirm the rates on other sites I wasn't sure if I was getting the best deals.
Do you book while onboard?

Thank you both! Now I feel a bit silly at hesitating but at least I can be ready to explore my food options more on future cruises.
Anyone know - is Anthem (I think its that one) the only one that allows you to seat yourself wherever you like in the formal dining (non-specialty restaurants but not Windjammer either)?

Hi,
I just got off Independence of the Seas and LOVED it. It was my first cruise where I really enjoyed the perks but one thing I didn't do was try the 'high-end' specialty restaurants like CHOP'S GRILLE or GIOVANNI'S TABLE. I was a little scared of being a solo diner and looking like a fool by not knowing what the prices were going in.
I saw the menus briefly but I'm curious - does RCI charge per each item ordered (like any restauarant on land) or is it per a meal (an extra fee they tack on no matter what you order just for the service)?
I was surprised to eat at Johnny Rockets on IS for instance and only be charged for drinks and shakes, no matter what food I ordered. The service fee was $5.95 if anyone is curious.

What shows are worth going to?
I was on the same cruise. The ice show is AMAZING. It only has showings on 2 days at 2pm and 4pm - the 2nd and 5th days I believe but you can only get tickets at a specific time on the 1st day of the cruise. The line was incredible but worth it.

It is trading at 70.87 a share, that would be 7087 for 100 shares...
jc
That original post was over a year ago when shares were down severely JC, sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the helpful notes. I was really excited about this as I'm able to get great offers OBC 50% of the time and I was hoping to add this extra $100 on top but it seems that's not the case...why RCL WHY? :P

I just got off 19-25. Don't know about the shows but pleased to report that the spa was excellent.

Did it anyway. ^.^

Since it's a Visa and a US-based cruise line (RCI and Carnival)...it'll just look like I'm doing regular shopping right?
-
I got five individual packages of teddy grahams and goldfish - a) for the plane rides, b) for layovers, c) if I'm locked in my room because of a typhoon, and d) if I need a snack - don't like the room service offerings and the pizza bar sucks at 1am.

If I book a cruise at the Early Saver rate and the categories above and below me get OBO with later specials can I call and get the credit? I ask because my category is sold out so I can't see if it's being offered at a discounted rate or w/ OBO.

Thank you for the gracious replies! I'm really impressed at everyone's foresight.
I didn't book the 2016 cruise but I did dip my toe in the water tonight of early planning and snatched up a November 2015 cruise. I'm practically dancing with joy as apparently I have this to look forward to - all for $800.
My hesitancy in booking two years in advance is that I don't know where I'll be in a quarter let alone two years from now. However November's a safe bet. Now let's hope I can avoid bad weather. :D

How do you know the cruise will be popular fyree39? Is it the seasonal cruises - like at the height of summer vacation for kids or the New Years Eve cruises?
-
I came across a great cruise deal (IMO) which was $500PP in December 2016 for 8 nights. I could do that. But do people really book 2 years in advance for a cruise? Is that the only way to find great deals without doing a REPO?

I'll be boarding Indy this weekend and I very much look forward to my first journey onboard.
