Is there still a special trip to the Harbor night on Wed? I read they will continue the festival until the 2nd week of Sept. We will be there on the 6th; and were planning to take the ferry over and back.

  3. Hi, husband and I are cruising on the Breakaway with our kids (both 9 years old) for our first time.

I know you need to pre-book some of the evening entertainment. I was wondering which shows would be more child-friendly?

What, if any, drinks would be complimentary for them at meals, other than tap water? At home they drink milk or juice.

    Thanks!

we were on board last sept with a son & dgt 7&6 we are returning this Sept they are now 7&8 here is what we did. For drinks we gave them milk and juice for breakfast. Ice tea & lemonade for lunch& supper. we bought along their lg carry along cups since their is a fridge in the room they could store juice from breakfast. the lemonade is vey concentrated so you will have to add water for your desired taste. the water is filtered. Shows. IMO I do not feel Rock of ages is appropriate for anyone under 13 "PG-13" so we ate dinner at 6pm with the kids then took them to the kids club by 8 caught the 9pm show and picked them up after. Burn the floor bored them. but booking the Cirque dinner for kids this age is a must even if you've seen it on land as we have; but we still always book it. our kids loved the breakaway kids club night life, waterslides, climbing wall and bungee trampoline so much that's why we are booked again. Happy travels

if you get a chance plz post MDR menus I'm sure there was a change I posted but some felt I was wrong. I would like to pre-plan for dining since we have a party of 8 in Sept. they are at the Service desk... thank you if possible. most of all enjoy!!

  5. Someone recently commented that the dining menus changed. I seem to recall that the upcharge items were removed from the MDR menus along with lobster in all dining venues (including SD and Haven). Does anyone from the last few sailings have menus to share/post? Thanks!

ok my friend found it the "new" menus to the MDR are actually a more conservative mix between the old as of 2014 old and the new ones they adapted after that. I know because I sailed in 2014 right before the change then sailed again in 2016 and like may others did not really like the newer menus.........so here goes to see the REVISED MDR MENUS go the the ncl gem page and read mking8288 4-29-17, 7 day Gem review he posted them in his review.. yes I compared the first 3 days with seadogs live breakaway review and yes they are the same. Hope I've helped. I'm back on the breakaway in Sept so I was grinning ear to ear at the change. we mostly did updining last year but with a large family we appreciate when we can enjoy the MDR.

  6. Hi my family and I had the pleasure of sailing both ships last summer. Sunshine in July & Breakaway in Sept. to keep it short and simple in my opinion the Sunshine is the way to go if your focus is on childrens programing. Last summer our girl was 6 and boy was 7. Dr Seuss on the sunshine is what takes them over the top for the younger kids 5 and below. The parade(we wore thing1 and thing2 shirts from home) the green eggs and ham breakfast was amazing!!! and a live story play activity in which kids are picked to play characters. plus the usual kids club which is a 6 of 10 ( I kind of felt it was a baby sitting service than club).. Breakaway has themed kids club days and they switch at night changing the room décor in the process they get a 10/10 but your kids would have to be old enough to feel comfortable being away from you to get the most out of that. The water slides are great on both ships but again sunshine wins for kids splash area. For the older kid breakaway is the way to go the rock climbing wall, spider slide, bungee trampoline, 4ft kids pool and minigolf. This summer the kids are 7 and 8 so we are back on the Breakaway because at this age they do these activities. My husband and I enjoy the thermal suite on the breakaway far better than the Sunshine for the big kid in us!

  7. DH and I travel with our two kids girl 6 and boy 7. We have done both carnival sunshine and NCl gem before they ended the nickelodeon contract and breakaway last summer without nick. there is plenty activities for the family and kids to do. they do have a "build and animal" event. The build your own cupcake and make your own pizza events are not well advertised. we kind of stumbled across them. They take place at the dinner buffet and both were kind of just off in a little corner. but the lines were long so other people know about them. I can say there is a big difference in the activities @ the kids club with NCL than with carnival. On carnival it felt like baby sitting services but on the breakaway everyday is a different theme and they carry that theme into a party each night Pirates, super hero, Olympic and survivor island are a few I can remember. On the Breakaway we literally had to drag our kids away from camp daily. and then they begged to go back each night. On the ship they have a large fun mini golf course which we did as a family. and we let our little ones do the mini ropes course area then while they were at camp the next day hubby and I did the adult ropes course, and walked the plank!! Kids loved the huge trampoline. The kid is attached to bungee cords and they jump and flip in mid air. My kids said they felt like they were in the circus flying. Next to the trampoline is a huge bungee tower they climb up then slide down from the top. called the spider slide. The rock wall has 3 sections easy -hard our guy made it to the top and rang the bell of victory twice. I do miss the nickelodeon characters and events that they use to have but the breakaway has so much for kids to do that we honestly feel we have a good balance of family time and grown up time which we spend in the spa thermal suites...We enjoyed so much that as soon as we got home we rebooked the same cabin for this summer. Oh and they have the best family OV cabin with a full enclosed glass tub with shower. and vary spacious room with great storage. I hope this helps. HAPPY CRUISING
