I did this excursion in 2018 in December when the Christmas markets were open. It was magical. The lunch restaurant was fantastic, and the entertainment very good. I don’t know how much of the trip was influenced by the light snow we had as we traveled or the season itself. But the tour of town was pleasant and we did have some free time to look around. It was a highlight of the trip—my third visit to Salzburg. A few sights from the Sound of Music could be seen, including the cemetery where the family hid—the original version, not the very authentic copy made for the movie.
