  1. There are some travel coupon booklets.

Such as : Hotel Coupons.com, Roomsaver.com and Florida Travel Saver.com,

    to name a few.

However, no matter how enticing their ads are in the booklets, there are a few I would not use EVER !!

No room under $100 per night in the high season,

Roadway Inns, Ramada, Motel 6 and their like - those brands and others

in Florida don't do so well and can be in rough areas.

Stick to the popular name brands and have a great time.

    All the best,

    Maryandi, :)

  2. No but close to each other.

Fll is Fort Lauderdale, FL and the port is Port Everglades.

The port and airport are about 2/3 miles apart.

MIA stands for Miami, FL- their port is the Port of Miami.

Between the airport and port is about 20 minutes or so,

depending on traffic. Could be less.

    Enjoy your cruise,

    Maryandi

  3. You will definitely have a busy and fun 2015, all the cruises do add up. John has put together and linked up several cruises.

First we start of celebrating John's B'day in January with the Oasis

of the Seas, February is our 50th Wedding Anniversary !, March is the Royal Princess for 26 days, Caribbean Princess in

May and Celebrity Eclipse May/June to Russia, etc.

Homeward bound on the Queen Mary2 in June to NYC and Amtrak will bring us home.

I will try and do all this travelling with 1 suitcase !!and maybe a tote bag.

Have fun and thanks for the interesting and detailed port reviews.:)

  4. Probably between the charter organizers and the cruiseline - the cancellation of the entire cruise was the better thing to do.

But in the case of unrest that does not effect the entire itinerary, they should just cancel the port.

We had that happen on the Holland America World Cruise at the beginning of this year.

Due to the Ebola outbreak in Dakar and Senegal, they just cancelled those 2 ports.

We are on the Eclipse for the 5/30 sailing and we will be watching closely.

  5. Sailing on Ryndam in Oct. with two stops in Egypt (Port Said and Alexandria). Any ideas of which excursions we should take?

We booked the all day tour that included Cairo, Pyramids, lunch, some shopping and a long day and we saw all we had hoped for. The people were real friendly

Also the Egyptian Museum. It was a great day.

Then to Port Said the next day - there we just walked around the shopping area near the ship where the suveniers (oops, sp) were set up

They were very glad to see us and we bought a lot of well-made stuff.

    Enjoy ! Maryandi

  6. Hello, Boy people on this board are super chatty today - must all be home and looking for a cruise !!

    In answer to your inquiry,

go to http://www.sunny.org, that is the website of the Convention and Visitors Bureauin Fort Lauderdale.

Then look for : "Cruise & Play" on the home page. Click that.

Then Click on (look to the left side choices )for "Hotel Shuttles"

That brings you to the site for the hotels that do or do not allow you to leave the car while you cruise.

    Have fun, Maryandi

  7. A lot of the car rental companies do have shuttle service. I know Budget does. When you check to make a reservation - just ask them.

The car rental drop-off for Budget and or Thrifty are real close to the port entrance - even if the shuttles are full for when you want to go- a taxi should only be about $10 at the most.

    Have fun, M

  8. We went twice and had a wonderful time each time.

The tour was Rhumba on the Chiva - the music was blasting out of the converted bus and they were pouring the rum punches. The people on the bus were jumping around to the music and so were the people on land.

Then time at the beach , some empanadas were served and we relaxed for awhile. The town and local residents were real friendly./B]

I would go back, for sure.

  9. Sure make 2 reservations - one for the first day and the second for after the ship docks.

They will each be one-way rentals (you have 24 hours with the cars.) but won't need them that long.

I do that for all the cruises we take.

In January '15 - we'll pick up our car at our local Budget office and drop it off at the Budget office by the Port entrance.

Then 7 days later, pick up another car at the port-area (17th St.) Budget office) and drop it

    off when we get home.

We are locals but it works just the same if you are going to ports and/or airports.
