The Iowa class was designed as fast battleships capable of 33 knots as compared to the 28 knots of the South Dakota and North Carolina classes and the 21 knots of the old standard class battleships. Even though the Iowas had basically the same main and secondary armaments (50 caliber 16" as opposed to 45 caliber) they were longer and had more powerful machinery than the preceding classes.

I was on the Nordic Empress (Empress of the Seas) that sailed from NYC on 9/9/2001. After 9/11 the port was closed so they brought us back to Philadelphia. The cruise line helped rebook people's flights to go out of Philadelphia and had buses available to bring people back to the NYC pier. It was very well organized given the short time they had available (the cruise was a 7 night to Bermuda).
I think the Bayonne option for Vision would be the best given that there are three major airports and easy access to I95 and NJ Turnpike for buses down to Baltimore. I'm sure Royal Caribbean is looking at the logistics of various alternatives as well as getting an emergency exemption of the PVSA.

I ate in CK on Anthem on boarding day this past September and there were plenty of open tables the whole time I was there. At worst they may split you into two tables. Mind that this was on a five night cruise, I don't know if there is much difference on longer cruises.

In my case I reached 700 points exactly at the end of the cruise. Even with that the LA on Oasis still contacted me to make sure I went to the top tier party where he recognized me and had my photo taken with the HD and Captain. I was then invited to the Pinnacle lunch and later had dinner in Chops with the HD and the Captain. I was very impressed with how I was treated.

Yes, it's quite common for two to ride together. They have vests for the driver to wear with handles for the passenger to hold onto.
As to other questions that have been asked, I've encountered rougher seas at Labadee more often than at CocoCay. The route is usually in the shallower waters between the islands, depending upon the winds and state of the tide. This is another reason why they don't allow people to go on their own, there are shoal areas that could be hazardous especially at low tide. They do not want people hitting a shoal at 40 mph. The guides know the safe routes.

Thanks for the review. I'll be sailing on Grandeur next month after a hiatus of three years. I always took the train from Long Island - LIRR to NY Penn, Amtrak to Baltimore Penn (with a stop at Newark Penn) then a short cab ride to the port.

Celebrity has gone to unlimited drinks from a limited menu at most bars during Elite happy hour. If RCI did the same it might alleviate some of the crowding as some people might not feel they weren't getting their "happy hour's" worth by being limited to only three drinks outside of the DL.

Splendor and Legend were the oldest and smallest of the Vision "class", actually built as three pairs of two with each pair differing from the other pairs. It made sense that they were chosen to be the first to go. It will be a sad day in my mind when they are all gone as I like the layout of those ships even with the limited number of balcony cabins.

Try being at Labadee with two ships docked, one on EST and the other on AST, i.e. an hour different. People from one ship had 9:00 excursion tickets and people from the other had 10:00 tickets and all were showing up at the same time on shore.

I've had to call or email them to correct the points around three quarters of the time. It might have to do with how you booked, I've always booked online. There have been times where the person making the change for me has added a note to my future reservations that I was sailing single. Those sailing always came out with the correct points.

I know a couple who went on their first cruise a few years ago. He keeps fairly normal hours but she usually doesn't go to bed until 3 or 4 in the morning. I told him to let his cabin attendant know that he or she could skip the morning service and just do the evening service. The attendant had no problem with that.

I've always liked the DL on Grandeur and Rhapsody. Fairly large for the size ship with a nice view astern. Add to that access to the large lounge outside for overflow.

One of e things I liked about the app was that I could get to my forums in one or two clicks then scroll indefinitely through posts. It wasn’t perfect but it was easy to navigate.
In my opinion, the main reason some sites are moving away from apps is they don’t want the added expense of having to maintain it. Of course, with the large variety of browsers out there I wonder how many are used in testing.

I’m surprised by the size of the closet. I’ve been in other interior cabins on Oasis, sister of Allure, and they have always had full sized closets, at least 4 to 5 feet of hanger space as well as the shelves. I’ve always been in the ones forward of the forward elevators, I guess I’ll avoid the midships interiors.

Port Canaveral is over 250 nm further than Bayonne. That’s well over a day’s sailing in each direction.

I recently did the online checkin for my upcoming Oasis B2B and there was no longer an arrival / departure section, thus no place to say you are a consecutive cruiser.

Unfortunately, the Royal App doesn’t quite work on an iPad. The display is screwed up so that certain functionality does not work correctly. The most annoying is the deck plans which once opened cannot be closed other than by killing the app all because the “x” icon does not display.

It seems to me, a retired software developer, that everything that has been done so far has been done to make their site look better on a smart phone. I can only assume that someone decided that most people want to access the site on their phone. It also appears that they are developing and rolling out the updated portions of the site piece by piece.
Other companies have apps that access the backend servers and format the data for display within the app. The web sites of these companies also access the same servers but format the data to be displayed in a browser. It seems that Royal Caribbean has decided to not have an app to perform the functionality done by the web site but have instead changed their web site to fit the least common denominator that is a smart phone browser.
Speaking of the app that they do have it seems to do what it was designed to do fairly well on my iPhone. I tried it on my iPad, my preferred device, and it was practically unusable.

Usually the ships get the satellite feed for one early afternoon and one late afternoon (1:00 and 4:xx eastern) game on CBS and Fox. The night games on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday are generally carried by the ESPN International feed that is already on the TVs on board. The cruise line pays extra for the Sunday afternoon feeds.

Security cameras and security personnel body cameras are there so that if an incident occurs the video may be reviewed to show what, where and when the incident occurred. As I highly doubt that they regularly review the video without cause probably well over 99% of the videos are never seen. I would think the only places that have a real time video feed to a monitor is in sensitive areas of the ship that would not normally be accessible to the guests.

That was kind of the point I was going for in an obtuse way.🙂
You are correct, a higher length to beam ratio generally results in a faster ship, something that can be very important to a ship in combat or an ocean liner built to cross an ocean in as timely a fashion as possible. For a cruise ship it's generally about fitting more cabins and attractions aboard with speed being secondary.
