  1. I've read a little about Lucca. We liked SG and Siena when we visited Tuscany last time. However, we were there in March and not during the height of tourist season--in port June 22. We had decided that Siena was too far to drive and we've never been to Lucca. One of the big guys is 18 years old and doesn't like long drives--the bike ride is the "hook" for Lucca. It's hard to come up with ideas that will interest him.

We're on the Epic and start in Civitavecchia on June 21. We go to Livorno, Cannes, Palma Mallorca (HO-HO tour), Barcelona (possible HO-HO), and Naples (Pompeii & possibly Herculaneum) . He picked the trip from about a half dozen that my husband &I had narrowed it down to. I have never cruised such a big ship -- nor "freestyle" -- and hope we enjoy it. I'd appreciate any other suggestions that would hold his interest. Thanks.

Thank you for that piece of info. That map is really helpful. Also nice to know that we are the only ship in port that day. The Epic is such a big ship that I was afraid we would have difficulty finding a rental car.

Thank you for the info on the ship side rental. There are two big guys in the group and we got a really good deal on a mid-size with Avis.

Anyone who knows Livorno, our plan is do spend a few hours in San Gimignano then come back through Lucca and rent a bicycle to ride the 4 km city wall. We would also like to see the Leaning Tower but I heard that Pisa is extremely difficult to navigate without crossing into areas that are designated for permit holders and that 6 months after your trip, you may get a pricy ticket in the mail. Does anyone know if this is fact or fiction and does it seem that our plan for the day is too ambitious?

Again, thanks for the info. It's really helpful.

  3. I booked a June cruise directly through the NCL website and wanted a starboard mini-suite. I thought I was going to be able to choose my cabin, but somehow ended up with a guaranty and it was confirmed 2 days later as port side 8168 :( I called and asked if it could be changed and was told that there would be a $200 upcharge for starboard

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks
