  1. Anyone on Adventure of the Seas first few cruises going to Nachi?  Sailing on the July 3rd cruise and want to know if they will be back in operation.

They have a teeny tiny shop.

Although small, the shop there has a lot of stuff and the same guy has worked the shop every time we've been over the last 6 years... he's been extremely helpful in finding nice stuff to take home.  So if you go, don't skip the shop and don't count on your eyes seeing something you're looking for. Strike up a conversation with him and tell him what you're looking for.

  3. 8 times to nachi with no bad reports. Same staff and bartender. Even the guy running the gift shop is the same. When I spoke to the management there about things I read here they were very upset. Said they'd been using same distributor for alcohol for 18 years. Said others come by with cheaper offers but they don't trust switching.

  4. You are missing some key info. I believe that rci and carnival excursions are using private boats that come right to their dock and the public ferry is from downtown dock? You are there a long time and have that in your favor. What people here are warning you about is people there move on Caribbean time.....much slower pace to everything and they don't care if you're behind schedule. We've been there 8 times and never pulled away on time. They always are waiting on excursion to return from mainland. But haven't left at 8pm. That could make it doable. Seems a stressful way to vacation but everyone decides what is fun for them! Good luck and report back on how you made out.

  5. Spoke with management at NC when we were there last year about these stories and they said they have used the same distributor for 18 years and had no issues. All the reports I had seen last year were chain resorts on mainland. Have not researched this new report to see if it has multiple credited sources or is "fake news". Cozumel is so very take compared with many parts of mainland Mexico. Don't know if you could even find trouble there if you tried.

  6. Only natural to get down right after you got that news from medical. Don't let another passengers crappy attitude bother you. My response to those folks is to say "I'm very sorry for inconveniencing YOU on YOUR vacation. I'm in your way and apparently it should have been obvious to me. Please yell at me sooner next time."

On our cruise last year, "that boys" friend broke his arm 24 hours into the cruise. Obviously put a damper on activities that were planned. Both boys ate everything in sight and gained 10 lbs each.

  7. When I did the ship's tour last year, we spent quite a bit of time talking about the security cameras and monitoring. Mostly discussing people falling overboard and technology related to that. Because of those lawsuits, they monitor those cameras a lot... a camera in a normally very quiet area in the middle of the night statistically wouldn't be something that would top the list to watch in my opinion.

The software isn't working well. The "man overboard" software just picks up waves breaking whenever the weather ticks up at all. They tested software that should pick up an unruly crowd/fight but it only went off when people were dancing!

  8. Our 19 year old son is "that boy" whenever we are annoyed at him, asking if he's done a chore, etc... so 90% of the time... his name is also Nicholas.

We went to Roatan on NCL out of New Orleans with that boy and a friend of his last year during spring break as an early high school graduation gift. Roatan was the highlight stop for us as we hadn't been there before. We did Daniel Johnson's and snorkeling. Had a private guide; we prepaid for all of that through Daniel Johnson's. The snorkeling was hands down the best we've ever experienced. Nothing else was even close.

  9. Did the behind the scenes tour on the Oasis last year. We could take pictures of the engine control room but I don't think pics were allowed in the room where the monitored the cameras. The room is right behind the bridge and they said that 2 people were there at all times and often there were 3. Some monitors stayed on the same image while others scrolled through several cameras. I believe they said there were nearly 1,000 cameras with more being added. When something is called in or noticed one of them will hone in on that issue and if there's only one other person on duty someone else is immediately called in the room to assist from the bridge. But it would be impossible for them to monitor all of those cameras in real time.

Horrible situation for all involved. The young man (maybe showing off for friends) said something he shouldn't have. He probably felt bad about it even before being confronted. Apparently he apologized. The uncle made some terrible choices and the father stood by and allowed it to happen. The young lady lost her dad for a couple of years. Sounds like the mom was more interested in being her sons friend and not his parent. I'm sure it makes her feel better about all of it to turn it around and make it RCI's fault. The courts/lawyers will handle it. Mostly these things get settled. Mom's attorneys will want to cash out without having to fight too much.

  10. I didn't read this from start to finish. I'll go ahead and add my take on the automatic gratuities. Before our first cruise I wondered about the automatic gratuities and why they weren't just added as a line item like taxes and port fees when you first priced up the cruise. We paid them but didn't tip extra on the cruise. Over the course of the next few cruises we began spending more time talking to the staff and learning just how hard they work to serve all of the passengers. They learn as much English as they can, go through many rounds of interviews, and leave their loved ones behind to take a job that most in this country would certainly not even consider doing. They get a chance to see some of the world, meet a lot of new people, and earn more than they can in their homeland. Some hope to one day immigrate to the US. They aren't looking for charity or pity. They are happy you are interested in them rather than looking past them. They make you really appreciate the opportunities we all have in the US and how most of our "problems" are "first world problems" and not that important at all. We still pay the auto gratuities and also tip additional. We also do the surveys and mention the names of the people that provide exceptional service. If you don't take the time to truly talk to some staff do yourself a favor and try it out.

  11. We are back from our cruise. Visited Nachi on Friday and had another great experience. We got there at a little after 10 ship time (9 local time) but there were already about 40 people there. We were led to a great spot in front of the second bar and restrooms that were added as requested. It probably filled up to about 100 people for the day which was the most that we've seen there. We had Joseph for our waiter (he's been there for 15 or 16 years). Had great weather for the day and the military was there using the dock to launch their boats and doing exercises at the abandoned building down the beach from Nachi. Liberty and Oasis were in port from RCI. Carnival had Dream there when we arrived and Magic showed up later. I think MSC Divina was at the downtown pier although I didn't speak to anyone at Nachi who was aboard that ship.

For my drinking experience...I mean experiment.... I started with a Margarita, then had 6+ (lost count) Dos Equis and then switched to Pina Colada's (3+) when we moved from the beach to the pool. Had nachos for appetizer and mixed fajitas for entree (both were great as always; fajitas come with a few pieces of chorizo that is wonderful). We left just before 4 ship time and I had a slight buzz maybe but that was all. Before leaving we spoke to Joseph about these reports and he got the manager out to talk to us. We asked if he had heard about any of this being said about their establishment. He said that he had not heard about it at all. He commented on how many years each of the staff has been there (he's been there 15 years, bartender 17 years, Manuel almost 20 years) and said that they have used the same liquor distributor the entire 15 years he has been there. He said other salesman come by but he trusts his guy because nothing has ever gone wrong. He said a few weeks ago some people came and brought marijuana with them and were smoking it on the beach and he had to go down and tell them it was illegal there and they needed to stop. He also told us that a few months ago a young lady that had recently got there seemed very out of sorts.... so they took steps to entercede after finding out that she did not know her traveling companion very well and he may have tampered with her drinks.

Based on our previous experiences and this one (total of 7 visits) I still wholeheartedly endorse Nachi. Seeing the same faces every time we visit gives us confidence in the beach club. It must be a good place to work and I would hate to see anything compromise the business they have built. I have yet to see any proof yet from these people who claimed to have been drugged. Did they contact local police? Seek medical help on the island or Ship? Alcohol can affect many people differently and the heat and humidity can add to those effects.

Again I go back to the 2 different story lines. The first is that there was prescription medication put into her food. If this did happen it may have been someone else messing with her... it reads like a bad mystery novel but with no apparent motive? I do believe for sure that she believes it happened that way but even she might admit that she didn't have her eye on the food all the way from the kitchen to her consuming it perhaps? The second story line that a few chimed in with seemed to be themed around having little to drink but powerful effects from it. These allegations came out of the woodwork after the reports from the mainland resorts surfaced and the first person posted about the drugs.. Before this the only really negative stuff I had ever seen anyone say about NC was that it was too quiet (looking for a party atmosphere) or they didn't like the food (ordered American food). In any case I did speak to the management which apparently is more than these others had bothered to do...

  12. The first ladies complaint was that she was drugged in her food. Since that is prepared fresh on site that could only be viewed as something that someone on the NC staff did and I view that as something much different than tainted alcohol that NC purchases unknowingly. I'm not sure if the alcohol problem is far and wide or not. I do know that although Tequila is considered a Mexican liquor it is not that popular in the Yucatan. It's a northern and central region drink... They drink mostly beer in the Yucatan. Tequila and I don't get along anyway so I won't be testing that out... I will be at NC next Friday and in the interest of science and CC followers I'll give my liver a hard time and see how it goes?

  13. Taken plenty of trips without the insurance coverage. I don't risk more than I'm willing to lose. Some people purchase every extended warranty offered to them and I purchase none of them. On the ship I don't gamble at all... never set foot in the casino. I guess I'm only willing to gamble if the odds are heavily in my favor. It's the nature of most insurance that you are paying a little to protect a bigger investment all the while hoping you don't end up needing it.

  14. We've always felt perfectly safe in Cozumel. I would say Grand Cayman and Cozumel are two of the safest Western Caribbean stops. It isn't Disney World but it is safe... Cruise ship passengers represent too much of their economy to allow anything to happen to you. RCC and Carnival don't even drop you in town.. you're 3 miles away

  15. Every time i've been to Cozumel, Mexican authorities always have dogs looking for food being taken off ship.

We've always thought it was funny that the dogs are sniffing for people bringing drugs IN to Mexico! :D

We've been to Nachi 6 times and will be back next month. Never had any issues with the food. My wife has celiac's and they've even accommodated her allergy great. The poor woman who got sick last year posted:

Heads up on Nachi. I was there last Tuesday from Celebrity Constellation. I had one pina colada and the guacamole. Within about 30 minutes I began to feel rather queasy. Then I became nauseated and quickly left. I barely got back to the ship before I became violently ill. This lasted about two hours. Once the food / drink came back up, I was fine. Clearly, if u go, I would not eat or drink. I spoke to one other person that was there that day from my ship and the same thing happened to her and her family. It was not noro as we were fine once we got the food out our tummies. So a big word of warning!!

Bit of an association fallacy to now believe something different because of the alcohol problem that happened on the mainland.

  18. We recently returned from our first NCL cruise (we were on the Dawn) and found that NCL did a good job with my wife's Gluten allergy. Once onboard we went to the main dining room and spoke with them there and we were all set from there. Mr Q would meet with my wife and show her tomorrows menu (dinner and/or lunch) and would take her order. She sometimes changed her mind and they would accommodate her changes. The Bimini grill had fries that they cook in a dedicated fryer so she could have that as a snack. O'Sheehans didn't have much but we expected that. We avoided the buffet. Even if they show you things there that are gluten free there's a high risk of cross contamination from other cruisers behaviors. She perhaps had more snack items available on RCL or Princess but NCL did a great job....we were impressed. We did not feel the need to even try a specialty restaurant.

  19. We sail on the Norwegian Dawn in a week. The wife and I picked the beverage package from the options + 3rd and 4th passenger free. Our son and a friend of his are going and are both 18. Reading about the beverage packages it states that all in the same room must have a package. We weren't sure if we were going to buy the soda package for them or not (my son's friend rarely drinks soda). Are we going to have to purchase the package for the 2 of them?

  20. Most people leave Nachi around 3:30 to 4pm if not before. Definitely thins out. They advertise that you can stay til 5 or after if your ship docks at 12 or after. Tell your server you want a taxi and they will be there in 5 minutes. Taxis wait down at Mr Sanchos (a mile away) and one of those will come over. You can usually save a little money by riding back with others and splitting the cab costs.
