  1. Apollo Ship Chandlers provides food and beverage menus, recipe/meal plans/ food and hotel purchasing for Thomson Dream and Thomson Celebration.

They certainly do, having taken over those ships late last year, and they've been contracted on the Island Escape for a few years now.

  2. Sunwing released their 2015/6 cruise brochure last week, they continue to offer Thomson Dream. Somewhat bemused by this thread, are people suggesting that Thomson Cruises won't call at Havana because other cruise lines do?

    http://www.sunwing.ca/newsstory.asp?id=558

I never suggested that as we already know that Thomson will be calling in Havana this coming Winter 2015/6 as they published their brochure last year.

I said it doesn't look likely that Thomson will be sailing that side of the Caribbean the Winter after (2016/7)!!!

  3. Reading various web site,s it looks like MSC and TUI are going head to head over CUBA with MSC using Thomas cook and virgin for there flights

That's interesting. Is that just for UK passengers to reach the ship, or all passengers from Europe (and presumably connecting in London)?

  4. that would be a shame... perhaps the 2 sea days per week and the missed ports effectively making it 3 or (more?) sea days is putting people off? I didnt notice a huge takeup by canadian cruisers either (maybe that experiment didnt work as well as thoms had hoped)

imo the weather/sea conditions arent so good over that side of the caribbean (at least they weren't this last winter)

Possibly might be the reason, and led to a lot of bad reviews for the Dream at the beginning of the season, and this Winter's itineraries had already been published so was too late to change them!

There were quite a few Canadians boarding the day we left on 23 December last year, but I don't think it was that popular with them through the season. I don't think Sunwings have been selling them for this coming winter?!?

  5. last time sailaway said he was having a rest... i think the blog (and all the research) is quite time consuming

Yeah, he must be, and it's happened before. You'd think he'd leave the blog up though as some sort of reference!

  6. MSC to home base msc Opera in Havana 2015-16 what will it mean for Tom,s

    That's very interesting!

Well, as I couldn't find any info on Thomson Montego Bay cruises for Winter 2016/17, this coming winter may be the last with Havana itineraries for the foreseeable future?!? Who knows?

  7. I have not been able to access Sailaways blog either. It says NO LONGER AVAILABLE !!!!!

Alas, hope he has not defected to the FaceBook with all his worldly knowledge.

I'm on most of the Facebook groups and haven't seen anyone there posting like Sailaway did!

He removed his blog once before (not sure why) then reinstated and updated it.

Very true, I wonder why it comes and goes? Maybe works for TUI and doesn't want to get rumbled ?!?

  8.

I once wrote to Thomson to praise a hotel rep who had been very helpful "above and beyond the call of duty" - and received a reply apologising for the disappointing service we had experienced !!!

I could so easily imagine them doing that!

They've probably framed your letter now, as they wouldn't have known what to with a letter of praise ;)

  9. Trying to work out the cruise,s from barbados january 2017 it look,s like the 1st and 8th and 22nd will be north bound as far as Tortola and back down to St Martin also FEB will also be the same with the date,s 1st 8th 15th 22nd being in St Martin let,s leave this one to SAILAWAY

I wanted to leave it to Sailaway as he is much more knowledgeable than me, but I couldn't find his blog the other day so wasn't sure if he's still around?!?

yay! discovery homeporting in barbados...... perfect/brilliant/cool (#getmeonthatbalcony)

good spot there baggers.... thanks for sharing:cool:

You're welcome! Will post more if I find anything out!

  10. I would rather they got rid of the Dream ;)

It's leased until 2020 and I should imagine kept until then as Thomson manage it (through agencies) whereas the Majesty is run by Louis. They did have an option to purchase the Dream which kicked in this year, but I'd be very surprised if they did as it does have it's problems despite some lovely cruises on her. The plumbing has clearly been a problem from the day Thomson took her over.

After all this I can't wait for the next brochures to come out. Will that be October?

End of November/Early December normally! But itineraries will start leaking out before then no doubt! ;)

  11. Found it 12 cruises from january to april 2017 so it look,s like Eastern Caribbean mainly could be slightly longer cruises but with Tom,s it,s going to be cruise and stay witch is ok for me and the wife as we are already booked for march 2016 our fourth one from Barbados this time on Celebration same Island,s but we love them thank,s again.

Yep, looks like visiting St.Maarten quite often too, sometimes every other week, which is a plus as it's a beautiful island!

I would think Thomson would stick with their 7 day back to back cruises as they seem to thrive on offering cruise and stays and I guess it gives them something a lot of their competitors don't have!

Interestingly, the Dream is booked into Madeira quite a few times that winter, so it's either been provisionally booked in and they're going to change it closer to the time, or the Dream won't be sailing from Montego Bay that winter?!?

  12. thumbs up for discovery to home port Barbados 2016-17 i will be the first one to book how did you find out this early :D

Port schedules for St.Maarten show it in quite often over that winter. Looks like it'll make the departure quite early for it's Transatlantic crossing too, on the 29th October 2016, with a stop in Madeira shortly afterwards.

  13. I think your right baggers but i think it was confirmed orders REF sea trade cruise news thanks anyway.

My source was Wiki though ;) and they've been listed as 'Future Fleet' on there for some time, so TUI have probably only just finalised the order now then!

Looks like the new 'Discovery' will be operating out of Barbados next Winter too. So hopefully, the winter after, we might expect some exciting new destinations? Far East perhaps?

  14. TUI order another pair of Mein schiffs for 2018 -19

    Mein Schiff 7 & 8? Wern't these ordered quite a while ago?

Or am I getting mixed up and they were talking about them, but only just ordered them now?

It's looking increasingly likely that Mein Schiff 1 and 2 will make their way over to Thomson in the summer of 2017 to replace the Majesty and Spirit, but obviously this won't be confirmed by Thomson until next year.

  15. I've used the following email addresses previously, with varying degrees of reply times. They have all responded quickly enough for the enquiry to be answered or actioned in good time.

    contactus@thomson-cruises.co.uk

    csc_contacts@tui-uk.co.uk

    thomson@email.thomson.co.uk

    cruiseexcursions@thomson.co.uk

The last one obviously is for excursion related enquires etc.

Why they can't have one single contact address is unclear !!!

Because that would be too easy ;)

The one I use is the top one, but it has .com at the end instead of .co.uk

Always get a response either same or next day with that one!

  16. Anyone who spends £5000 on a Thomson cruise wants their head examined. 5 grand buys you a good cruise in a MODERN ship with a balcony! Just my opinion.

I was thinking along those lines. We quite like cruising with Thomson, but one of the main reasons we do is because they are good value. There's absolutely no way we'd pay £5k for two of us for 2 weeks as the product certainly isn't worth it.

If a cruise was coming up at that price (especially a Med one) we'd look at another itinerary or another line!

you know how they like to run with them rather than think them out:rolleyes:

Haha, so true geomagot. Maybe we all really like paying to be guinea pigs? :D:D:D

  17. Columbia also look after the Island Escape as well as the Dream and Celebration, hence why a lot of the officers and captains move around the 3 ships so often!

So really it's just a formality that they're going to manage the Discovery when she goes live with Thomson. I'd presume that Apollo will also manage the hotel/food/drinks etc. too on the Discovery, again likewise that they've done for years on the IE and more recently the Dream and Celebration too.

  18. March is a LNG way off they may have changed things by then what are you actually asking? If you have to pay the full price its just about break even, depending on your consumption, but if you are being offered free of £10 per night its well worth it. We have got it free on Celebration in Feb so are happy with that.☺

No cheap drinks packages on the Dream's Caribbean sailings (apart from the Transatlantics where it's been offered for £10 a night).

  19. i didnt see the classical duo at christmas but there was a pianist and a singer in tides bar (the old ocean bar)... cannon is still there btw

max & brandi did an operatic set poolside one afternoon which was v well received (people in tears)

coffee port is nice imo ... comfy... lovely sea views from those big window... but you do have to pay, they do coffee/tea/lattes & cappuccinos/hot chocolate and a selection of muffins, its quiet in there (people reading) staff crew use it quite a bit, you can get takeaways

not sure if people on ai get a discount?

they still do afternoon tea in lido (cant remember if they do afternoon tea in sirens?)

The Classical Duo were onboard on the Transatlantic crossing in December, and we flew home from Montego Bay on 23 December, so unless they left the ship the same day, they would have still been onboard!

That said, they did do their usual of spending more time in the buffet that the 'Argo Lounge' again!
