Better eliminate all the lines that had problems on the same route- NCL, Cunard, MSC ARE THE ONES I know of - could be more.  Regent voyager in South America had issues as well.

True, I know of someone (friend of a friend) who's ship also had these type health problems in that area last month, not sure of line, but definitely not Azamara, I believe they may even have been refused entry at 1 port.

I have had to delete the app and re download when that happens, and it works again. VV app is the most buggy, piece of crap app out there...

They had an update on it today, am hoping that's helped. it kept taking me to area 51 when I was trying to book show, by time I managed to get on there it was booked out, so will have to try "virtual queuing" once on board

  3. Thanks for your response, I would prefer MSC myself, as I've cruised with them before, but they don't have what we want at the right time.  RCI is a viable options, but once we figure in the drinks package the price really shoots up.

  4. Hi, my friend & I are looking at booking a Baltic cruise next year & a few are coming up on Costa Fortuna.
Neither of us has ever been on a cruise with Costa & they seem a bit marmite, either great reviews or really bad ones, I believe the ship has had a refit so I ignored a lot of the older ones that complained about it's condition.

I've previously sailed on 'European' lines, CMV; P+O; MSC & as well as NCL, (I believe the nearest comparison is probably MSC, but I could be wrong), my friend however has only sailed NCL once (& a Nile cruise), & I think it may be the price which is giving her a little concern, as it is a fair bit lower than other lines.
It's my understanding that they have a more traditional theme, i.e. set meal times etc & I am aware of the all announcements in many languages, but should there be any other aspects of which we should be aware?

All & any information (good & bad) from previous cruises would be of great help.

    Thanking you in anticipation.😷

  5. Thanks for all your replies, Think I'll just have to hang on a few more weeks & then decide, if it's still on the cards to sail, whether or not to cancel myself. I paid with FCC from a cruise cancelled in March, so the new Covid cancellation rules apply

  6. I was thinking more of the current situation and the current travel restrictions really, but don't think there's been anything before, at least not in our memories, to use as a yardstick.  I have a cruise booked early Nov, which I'm trying to decide about & just wondered if there was any easy way of working out whether it will sail. Think I'll just have to hang on a few more weeks & see how it goes.

    Thanks for all your input

  7. This is a really basic question of those who have cruised much more than I have, tho it is possible that the situation has never occurred before.

Is there a minimum number of passengers a cruise would need before it is financially viable for it to go ahead?

Update I just did a mock booking for my cruise on Nov 22 out of New Orleans and now the ports are showing as Tender Ports except for Costa Maya. I also read an article that had suggested you will not be able to leave the ship at the ports unless you have a booked ship excursion only. So no private excursions.... Wow I had other plans in Costa Maya and Cozumel this will be a game changer for me.

Nothing new on my trip summary page about this change. Anyone else see changes in their scheduled cruises?

    Tracie

I check the trip summery page at least twice a week, but only change is the days to go countdown.

  9. I've got a cruise 8th November out of Athens to islands & Israel. Will it sail, who knows, but I'm waiting a few more weeks before I decide whether to cancel or not,. There's  a couple of places on the itinerary which mean I would need to self isolate for 14 days on return, not a major problem as I'm not working, plus some may not let us in, also my insurance would be invalid should anything happened to me, as I'd be travelling against FCO advise. It's a dilemma

  10. I'm cruising western Caribbean later this month with NCL stopping at Cozumel; Costa Maya; Roatan & Harvest Caye.  Travelling solo, getting on a bit & not able / inclined to do anything too strenuous, but I'm not a much of a sunbather either. I'd like to see Mayan ruins, but have seen that some are a far distance from the ports & consequently a lot of the trip is spent travelling, I'd like to do a bit of snorkelling, also I like wildlife. Been trying to work my way thro NCL's excursion offerings & find myself going round in circles.
I believe the best port for me to see ruins will be Costa Maya? What/where would you recommend for snorkelling or wildlife? Our stops are for 9 hrs except Roatan @ 8, so I'm hoping I may be able to do 2 trips in one or two.

Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks

  11. Hi, I'm hoping to book a cruise in the next couple of days with NCL on Jewel. As I'm in the UK they are offering All Inclusive on all, but sail away fares. I'm trying to work out whether it's worth it for me.

If I had a cabin mate it most certainly would, but the difference between the cost for 2 at the different fares is the same as for 1 if you see what I mean, (i.e. if 2 sail it's £1200 vs £1700 & for 1 it's £1100 vs £1600).

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the cost for the Adult drinks package would be if purchased separately & also what the service charge is if not included? I've tried searching the site, but to no avail.

Any help would be great, even ball park figures.

    Thanks:)

  12. :oApologies in advance. I'm about to ask a question, about which I have seen many posts, but having gone back & forward between them, meantime forgetting what the previous said, I am quite frankly getting dizzy & thought it easier to post with my exact circumstances.

I am hoping to do an 7 night Alaskan cruise followed by about a week on land. Due to other commitments I have 2 specific periods in which I can travel, cruise 1st / 2nd week of July + land tour after or alternatively begin the cruise between 24 Aug - 5 Sept followed by the land portion, the dates are quie wide as I'm looking at several cruise lines, none of which I've previously used. By looking at charts, I can see that July is likely to be a fare bit warmer than Sept (although I do realise the weather is very changeable & unpredictable) & last years weather showed more rain days in Sept. I do quite like the idea of the autumn colours I'd get in the latter period (& the possibility of Aurora Borealis), but is this too much of a trade off. One thing I do want to do is a bear watching trip, which I believe is possible either period. Are there any other aspects I should be taking into consideration?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  13. Hi, am asking very similar question, I'm torn on when to plump for & hoping for some advise.

I’mplanning a trip this summer, but am having trouble deciding which of2 times to go, as I can see pros & cons to both. I plan to spenda few days in Vancouver, cruise one way, a week or so in Alaska(again travelling in one direction) & a stop over in (probably)Seattle. My two time frames for the Alaska portion of the would bethe 2nd or 3rd week in July & the 1stor 2nd week in September. I was thinking of travellingfrom Vancouver in Jul, but reversing the itinerary in Sept, myreasoning for the latter being I’d be travelling from colder toslightly warmer clime, but am now wondering if that’s such a goodidea. My main interested will be scenery & wildlife & onething I am planning to do is a bear watching trip, probably fromAnchorage. I’d be grateful for any advise.

  14. Hi, am planning cruise & land trip to Alaska, but unsure when best

to travel of my 2 options, which are to cruise either last few days of June into early July or late Aug early Sept. as I can see pros & cons to both. So I'm hoping for any advice from previous cruisers.

    Thanks:)

  15. Hi, I'm going to be in Bergen 14/7, have checked the dock info & it seems we'll be @ Bontelabo 2,

is this one of the nearer or farther docks?

Looking at the maps etc. it seems we'll be fine just walking around by ourselves to the various sites. The ship docks @ 07.00 & we need to be back on board around 14.30, I'm assuming most places of interest won't open till 09.00 with the possible exception of the fish market ( I know Billingsgate in London opens @ 5am, but that's not exactly a tourist attraction!), so I think we may need to prioritise. I've tried going on trip adviser, but just seem to go round in circles, we'll almost certainly go to Bryggen, the fish market & on the funicular up Mt Floyen, plus I was also thinking or St Mary's or the cathedral & possibly the fort or Rosenkrantz tower. As we are a little limited on time & don't want to be rushing around, what would you suggest?
