  1. They only allow one stockholder OBC per stateroom. Since you are the stockholder, it will be applied to your shipboard account.

Thanks! This is the first time I will be cruising without my spouse and didn't know how that worked.

  2. I know I've seen this on here before, but I couldn't find it so I am asking a question that has been asked before - the OBC from my stock holder benefit was applied and it looks like it was applied to the room. I am not sailing with my spouse but a friend. Does this mean it can be plies to her purchases or will it be limited to my purchases?

  3. And the please post the answer here to help others who might find themselves wondering about how this might work if they were similarly affected by a similar situation in the future.

So I talked with a carnival rep, and he informed me that I get 25% off the cruise fare, and it could be applied to the cruise I'd already booked in January of 2019 which only had the deposit on it. I know you get different answers depending on the Rep you get, but I'm going with that answer. This works best for me as I can do that today. I'll look for a replacement cruise because that one is way off in the future and I'd anticipated cruising now! I have to coordinate with friends before I book the "replacement cruise." Hope this helps anyone else that needs it.

  4. So I got the email about my cruise being refunded and a 25% credit on a cruise booked by 10/27/17 etc. my question is, can I book through a travel agent or must I book through carnival direct? Also, if I already had a cruise booked, but not paid in full, could I simply apply that credit to it?

  6. The day you're scheduled to depart on your cruise the booking is removed from the website so that changes cannot be made and because its no longer considered a future booking. This always happens, it doesn't mean the cruise is canceled or anything like that. Sign up for the text alerts concerning this cruise for updates concerning this cruise, hurricane Harvey and the Port of Galveston conditions. Also, near the top left corner of Carnivals page, they have a link to whatever updates are available at this time.

  7. Ok, so I hadn't really thought about this, but if you have prepaid the port parking and you opt for the shorter cruise, what do you do in regards to the prepaid port parking. Do you cancel and get a refund?

  8. But legally speaking, one does not have to respect the spirit of the law, just the letter of the law which is why laws are written. While I agree that folks should respect the spirit of a law as well, they are not required to just as many folks here do not even respect the letter of the law (rules), much less the spirit of them when it comes to Carnival's policies. Kind of hard to expect perfection from one while turning a blind eye to the other, isn't it?

Policy is not law. Policy allows for exceptions at the discretion of management.

  9. Again, you're confusing different things together. Many of the rules you are trying to apply to this situation apply only to unsolicited offers. When you call a company in response to a solicitation, you can hold the company to the representations in the solicitation and they can hold you to the terms and conditions referred to in the solicitation. The company's responsibility is to ensure that the fact that there are terms and conditions (perhaps online) is indicated in all their offers. (So if you want, you can prove your opinion has merit by showing offers from the cruise line that do not indicate that there are included terms and conditions, if you like.) If consumers choose to ignore what the supplier indicates, then that's on the consumer. If consumers choose to get offers second-hand (missing the required disclosures because the "friend" who provided the phone number failed to include all the related material that the supplier provided originally), then that's on the consumer.

I'll say it again: Let's stop beating a dead horse with all this presenting of personal preference as if it were law: Please cite a case like this one.

It's pretty to think so. . . There is a lot of consumer protection. If it went to court, it is highly likely the consumer would win unless a recording was provided of the conversation of the customer stating their understanding of the specific policy in question as there is no signed written contract. Regardless, the point of the OP was to share their experience. Experience shared. Others warned. Everyone needs to get over themselves. Unless this were an actual court case and unless one of us posters were the officiating Judge in the case, none of our opinions matter.

Personally, as a business person, I have my customers best interest in mind and putting myself in the customers shoes, the customer has a valid complaint unless I can produce an audio recording that has them agreeing to understanding the policy.

  10. You can't rent a wheelchair from the ship. You will have to contact a company near the port that rents devices. The ship does have a few wheelchairs for helping folks off and on the ship...but NONE for use while cruising.

Actually that is not correct. I hurt my knee and could not walk. We were able to rent a wheel chair for the remainder of the cruise and I believe it was 150.00. That was on the Magic January 2014.

  11. Not gonna happen.

Not necessarily. A lot of card benefits include all kinds of perks which the credit card company funds.

  12. So I called Carnival and booked two inside cabins. Paid the $500 per cabin, only to have something come up a couple of weeks later that was not going to allow me to go. I called to Cancel the two cabins and Carnival said you lose $50 per person and we can hold the rest of your $500 per cabin for a future cruise. So they never told me when I booked these cabins that they were early saver and non refundable. When I printed the confirmation I never knew I had to read every bit of the fine on the ticket contract all the way to the bottom. That wouldn't have mattered because they had my money end of discussion! So what did I do wrong?

I know I will be flamed for suggesting this, but if you can't work something out with the Rep who booked your cruise, and you paid by credit card, you could complain to the credit card company.

  15. Yeah these things. And I am one of those that got upset with the changes about the past guest parties. First I was demoted from gold to red (one cruise only then I got back up to gold). Then they disinvited golds from the past guest party, just as my DH finally turned gold. I get why they did it and that there are a lot of golds on the ship. And they can't afford to open the party for them. But give us something else. It will be quite a while before I make platinum. Maybe never, because although I have been on a lot of cruises, I like to shop around. I still plan on trying NCL and MSC when the right deal comes along. And if I could afford it, Celebrity would be my cruise line of choice. So just because I cruise does not mean all will be on Carnival. And I will vacation other places besides cruises...

Of course I would not choose a cruise line based upon repeat guest perks, but if they think it does not factor in at all, they are wrong. Its not the driving factor, but it does contribute to the value of the experience. Right now Carnival is not always the best value for me. And its the little things that have chipped away at the value. Bring a couple of those little things back or give me something new and it may tip things back to Carnival. There was a time that I only cruised Carnival. If you look at my signature and cruise history, you will see that my first several cruises were Carnival. I only started "cheating" recently. :)

I personally don't appreciate the way Carnival has handled the changes in tiers because those who have cruised longer aren't going away, and those who have just begun cruising will never catch up, or keep having the rug pulled out from under them -- yes, I was gold, then demoted, now gold again, and most likely demoted again. I've already booked on royal Caribbean along with my three cruises I booked on Carnival because there was no incentive to remain loyal. At least with the airlines (even with their changes) you still have the possibility of earning something for your loyalty and it doesn't have to be earned or used flying.

  16. I agreed with you that Carnival can be hit or miss in enforcing the rules. Where we seem to disagree is where you seem to believe that the rules are open for interpretation. 21 is 21. It's not 17 and really mature. I nor you should have to make someone else want to follow rules. If you are intelligent enough to understand the rules, you should follow them. That goes for the convenient and inconvenient rules.

I guess I'm going to blow your mind, but there aren't any Carnival rules, only policy. Totally different meanings!

There are rules in art, yet those who break the rules are frequently labeled genius. Anyway, rules are made to be broken and it's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

  17. Question....I get the fact that Carnivals rules may or may not be enforced. This idea of "open for interpretation", how does that work? [emoji848]....For instance, the Serenity Deck. It's 21+....that's black and white, not grey. Interpreting that rule isn't hard. Now if you choose not to follow it is another thing. 21+ isn't hard to interpret

You are so funny. The boards are full of complaints about rules not being followed which is evidence that Carnival rarely police the rules they have set. I believe that indicates lots of grey. Maybe some like to rail at windmills? IDK. I do know that it s an extremely small percentage of Carnival cruisers that post to these boards and it seems to me that someone who desires for others to follow rules would not want to make anyone feel stupid for asking or do anything to deter them from participating, yet that is what I've observed. I'm sure that will make someone want to follow the rules. [emoji57]

  18. I have found some posts helpful and some posts less than helpful here. I am typically good at reading between the lines to determine what to take as advice, knowledge, or suggestions. What I do find a little disheartening is when someone asks a legitimate question about... anything, that sometimes it turns into an argument between people "re-fighting" the same tired debate about their interpretations of rules and policies. Opinions are certainly welcome, but the repeating arguments don't really help the person who posts the original question. I don't know if that is exactly what the OP of this thread was referring to, but that is my two cents to offer;-)

That is the point of the thread and to inform the new people that even when it comes from carnival, rules are open to interpretation and may or may not be enforced.
