  1. The som was the only one who collects solely when you add on his chit. That would come out of obc.

We were in QG and we had several room service meals. Each time it was delivered by our butler. I asked if he received any gratis on those chits or the chits we signed for our included room spirits- room service pool gets those tips and anything on the room booze goes to the company.

It all worked out. We just were not used to so much obc.

  2. This is our 17th cruise and first Cunard. We’ve been on board Celebrity, NCL, Princess and HAL.

Totally agree with @NE John regarding the food. I had an eggs Bennie the first morning and could not believe how good the English muffin, the ham, egg and hollandaise were- superb!

When we first inquired about stretching the menu I asked about a halibut Oscar and also Alaskan king crab legs. I was told by the head waiter there would be a charge for crab legs.

So the halibut was excellent and I asked the head waiter if I could send a beer or drink to the chef. He told me that he doesn’t drink.

The next day we were in Juneau and went to Tracy’s #2 and we had 2 pounds of crab legs and 2 beers- $200 with grat. Then we went to Red Dog Saloon for a beer. I started chatting with my barstool neighbor and come to find out he was the executive chef on the QE. He had come on shore to inspect and purchase fresh prawns and salmon.

When I told him I was told he doesn’t drink he laughed. I bought him 2 beers.

Guess what I ate last night? I couldn’t even finish the huge plate of crab legs! Thanks chef!

I'd be inclined to have a Château Clerc Milon, Pauillac, 5ème Cru Classé 2018 and a Château Giscours, Margaux, 3ème Cru Classé 2014. 🍷

    Leaning that way.

  4. The bartender in the QG told me if I put a tip on her chit it goes to a pool with 17 other bartenders.

However, if I tip on a chit from our sommelier it goes to him only.

Our daily service charge was included in our deal along with $800 obc. After internet and theater box we still have $575. It would have nice if I could have tipped out butler, asst butler, m’d and servers with direct grats.

  5. I’ve seen it mentioned here before that OBC could be used for gratuities.

I’m on board the QE and just left the purser's desk. I was told I could not use it for grats or in the casino.

Essentially it can only be used for on board purchases and excursions.

  6. We saw a grizzly swimming along the shore first thing this morning as we neared Ketchikan from our balcony.

We hiked 3 miles along the shore to the Saxman Totem Park and then took the city bus back to town and went to the 1:00 lumberjack show. Discovered the local brewery, good beer and we also had a nice pizza at Fat Stan’s.

The chef in QG is making me a special halibut Oscar tonight. Everything has been exceptional in QG.

  7. On board QE now.

    1. I asked if whole king crab legs were possible? Not without fee.
How about halibut topped Oscar style? No problem.

    2. Yes. We were unhappy with table 19, we now have #1.

    3. Our package was booked in US & includes drinks to $12, the bartenders will ring drinks up to meet the threshold.

The perception of Rodney Dangerfrield in Caddyshack hitting the country club stuffing dollars in every staff member while flatulating “somebody step on a duck?”

Then dancing with the captains wife, “honey, you were probably something before electricity!”

Bring my plaid salesman coat and beat you stiffies to the m’d at 12:40 and pass a  c-note for my table pick.

    Yeah, that one looks good!

How’d that pauper get that one?

Are you going to Alaska anytime soon? Another FL man but I hope you are behind me at the QG first lunch. I'll look for your jacket.

We were on QA 10th May cruise, along with another CC member and have a bit of QG experience so ask away.

Since the steakhouse has a fruits de mer dish with king crablegs it has to be on board. Can you ask for it in the QG? Either as an individual serving or to say top the halibut- oscar style?

We sail on the QE soon to Alaska. I'm going to try to stick to seafood in the evening.

Perhaps we shall meet up onboard. We also have a 12:30 boarding time but are staying at the Westing Bayshore so will have to get our bags to the ship on our own. I do love the Pan Pacific but am awash in Marriott points and also love the proximity to Stanley Park.

If you fancy a nice dinner out precruise, check out Lupo restaurant in Yaletown. It's a quick Uber ride or longish walk from the Pan Pacific and they have a lovely Italian based menu.  The bill always gives me heart failure until I convert to USD (we did go a few times when CAD/USD were on par and it was painful, but completely worth it).

We have been to Vancouver many times and used to live in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, just across the Haro Strait from Victoria. We should have visited Alaska while we lived there but never made it. Now we're in FL.

Anyhoo, we love sushi and Vancouver is one of the best cities we have visited for such. We have a reservation for embark eve at Miko which is very close to Pan Pacific.

Let’s meet up in QG for this voyage. I’ve been in Britannia and PG before, first for QG. A big difference with Cunard is that the waiters do not try to be the center of attention and are truly kind to us. No waiters dancing on tables etc… Plus, everyone makes a fuss over you.  You’ll be embarrassed with the kind attention you’ll receive. Just don’t order the gnocchi!

    That's a bet!

We always make friends with the staff. It's a given.

I see you're from CT. While I'm originally from Miami, most of my roots are from New Haven and Hartford- a lot of Pratt and Whitney employees.

Just listen for the Loud McNultys!
