  1. I emailed the question about the grills cktl package. We do have $800 obc from Cunard and daily tips are included too. They did not give us anything more. Here is my response: Drinks Package in the Grills applies up to $12 drinks. Drinks over $12 will be charged the full amount against the guest's folio.
  2. Is it too hard to charge $3 for a $15 cocktail if you're limit is $12? Do we really need Oppenheimer to solve this dilemma?
  3. Has anyone ever asked for Alaskan King Crab Legs in QG and been refused? I realize you simply make your requests in advance and that the chef likes challenges. We'll be on the QE in June and it is a 10 day Alaska rt.
  4. If you were in QG would you still book Verandah nights? Couldn't you conceivably ask for anything that's on the V menu to be served in the QG?
  5. The choice is easy for us. I prefer the staff leaving our cabin with a smile and happy thoughts.
  6. TYVM- after looking at Sky Train it will be the way to go- to and fro. We're gonna be schlepping 2 large suitcases each. Is it easy to situate luggage on the train?
  7. Cunard Queen Elizabeth. We have a Q4 suite. We could be first off on 7/1/24. We thought we would leisurely depart with a 1:19 flight and just hop a cab after a nice breakfast. What exactly happens on Canada Day? Will it impede travel time to the airport? FL man is clueless.
  8. I just went to my Cunard to see what I did initially setup. A table for 6! We generally have no qualms of dining with strangers and enjoy chatting with other cruisers. But I can't roll the dice that we'll be stuck with "that guy" so I changed it to a table for 2. I'm sure if we wish to dine with another couple or two we'll figure something out.
  9. First time Cunard. We have a Q3 pent suite. It is just the two of us. We asked for a 4 top at booking simply because the duece's are so small and we may make friends who wish to dine with us. Is the dining table assigned with flexibility and is it first come first pick?
  10. Scold away mom. No reserved signs anywhere and nobody around. They are not very nice cabanas, the furniture is beat up and there is no bathroom. Price was right though!
  11. I've done 4 cruises in the last 4 months. 3 on ncl (2 in haven) and just got off the Mera yesterday with a YC deluxe balcony. My first time on MSC, platinum on NCL. It was also my first time sailing solo without my wife. I looked at this short 3 nighter as a chance to recon the line and determine whether to go forward with future cruises with them. First of all, going solo I was not interested in lengthy dining room experiences. I basically lived on morning pastries, espresso and then pizza (very good) and also lobster rolls both on and off the private island. I'm not nearly as big an eater as I used to be....I do like my cocktails though and never went without. There were two superstar bartenders in the YC and two who were still finding their way around. I talked with the officer in charge of everything in the YC and he informed me that himself and upper mgt felt that with each cruise they were addressing hiccups and improving. I spoke with others who had also sailed on her previously and they agreed. Huge plusses to me were a stocked mini bar daily with beer, diet cokes, oj. A bottle of Belvedere vodka complimentary. Spending the night on the private island was really cool especially with the lighthouse light show and beach party at night. My room was great along with my butler and attendant. I did take a tour through the thermal spa where I watched people taking hot and cold showers through wet, glass doors. Okay...I'll skip this and go to the hottub in YC where the servers deliver drinks right in the tub. The solo supplement was only 15% which I found to be a huge bargain! Finally, I believe we'll try some more lines before heading back. I heard alot of complaining in the gen pop but I absolutely loved the Sky Bar and the jazz trio. Every night I walked in I was inundated with servers waiting to serve. You could look down through the windows to the pool area where they do karaoke on the giant screen. What a juxtaposition from the inside of the Sky Bar down to the pool!!!
  12. Just left the Mera yesterday. I was in the YC and was on the first group off the ship at Ocean Cay. When we took the little shuttle to the YC area the maitre d came out of the restaurant and told us the restaurant will open at 12:30, bar at 11:30. Then he pointed at the beach chairs and said help yourself. It was incredibly windy and I just wandered over to the leeward side close by and saw all the cabanas were empty. I found a nice one and spread out on the sofa and woke up 2 hours later to a family w/attendant. "These cabanas are reserved sir." No problem, the bar was now open. Went in and had some nice cktls and a great lobster roll. Incidentally, the next day in the YC grill level buffet they had more lobster rolls. Very yummy!
  13. Gomer Karen, "Citizen's Arrest! Citizens Arrest!"
  14. I have a YC deluxe suite that had a very reasonable solo supplement so I booked it. Then my wife thought she might want to go when originally she was not interested. So I called and found out that my cost of $1248 was with a minimal solo supplement. If I added my wife it went to $2157. For another $350 we could just get another solo suite and have twice the room. I explained I needed a moment to explain the options to my wife before making a decision. She was very professional. I asked if she had an extension so I could call back and get her the commission. This is exactly what she told me, "no, we do not have extensions. And I cannot call out. That was nice of you to offer but we do not receive any commissions."
  15. I'm going on the 3/2/23. It's only a 3 nighter with a day and a half on Ocean Cay. If there is any interest I'll bring a couple of pickleball paddles and balls.
  16. We were on the 1/28 sailing. The Guinness gravity tap was not working. According to the bartender Syg, they are having trouble getting the gas to power it. Probably 30% taps closed. Still plenty of selection and Syg and Dr. Z are great. Watched the NFL championship games there. They have a snack type menu that is ala carte. We didn't order anything to eat but there were bar snack mix.
  17. Hey Wil I hope I didn't hit you with a coaster on the first Choir of Man show at 9:00. I made alot of friends in the Haven too. We had a blast on this cruise. Kerry with a K - Haven upper deck hot tub hog!
  18. The room steward works much harder than the butler or the concierge and I understand they are already in the pool. I tip them the most.
  19. There are folks onboard the Escape now that reported the old muster drill is back. Bars were shut down at 3:00. 3:30 mandatory muster drill that lasted 15 minutes. I saw it on the thread for next week from someone going back to back.
  20. I like to bring a ziplock but it's just to fill with cheerios off the Haven buffet so I can feed the wild donkeys on the islands. Hee Haw!
  21. We sailed the Prima right before Christmas in SL / 10102. It's the first time we've sailed in a forward suite. We love the aft suites and that is our first choice. The balcony on the forward suite was very large and had a wind shield on half of it. It was strange wind though- one sea day morning I went out with a cup of coffee and the coffee literally blew out of my cup on the wall! Later on the same day I went out in the afternoon and there was not a wisp of wind and we were motoring along at a nice clip. Surreal. One note about the balcony though is that it is really large but we only had 2 chairs and a table with no lounger(s). I requested at least one to be brought in, I was told by the butler to ask the concierge. The concierge told that me she was having problems getting the chair but was working on it. That evening we went to the capn's party and I met the hotel mgr. I explained we simply wanted a lounge chair on the large balcony- there was one in our balcony when we returned an hour later! The asst concierge told us there were 32 suites that were outside the Haven that qualified for the private breakfast/lunch in Cagney's which we thoroughly enjoyed- the menus flip flopped with sea/port days and we found the service exceptional- better than the Haven because there were like 4 waiters taking care of only a dozen or so pax. Our last sailing in Nov was on the Getaway and it was in the Haven and it was much more crowded.
  22. Did you happen to attend the "wines at sea" tasting for platinum latitudes members? If so, were any of the wines above the bottom of the wines available by the glass in the restaurants? My wife will be upset if the crab cake in Cagney's has declined to the crab cakes they serve in the Haven.
  23. We had a similar suite in Dec. You get a butler, the ship's asst concierge and best of all----- private breakfast and lunch in Cagney's. The asst concierge desk is in Cagneys too- use her to get to the shows early, get on and off the ship first and to book all specialty restaurants. She told us there were 32 eligible suites for these bennies. We called it the "sub-haven".
