  1. Ship - Disney Wonder 3 Day - with children

    Year - 2000

Ports - Nassau, Cocoa Cay, Sea Day

Delightful time...we were hooked and booked a 7 day on the Disney Magic just 3 months later. :) Now we cruise 1-3 times a year, some have been w/children, but most without. ;)

  2. No...promowave is still allowed, you just can't use it for the Tuesday (new booking only) sales or things like the WOW sales. Oh, and you can't combine a Next Cruise OBC with a C&A savings certificate, apparently...according to some dumb new restriction. :( But other than that, you are eligible for senior & residency and loyalty discounts and price drops. :)

Thank you! So, I can still received my C&A $100 off for booking a balcony stateroom?

  3. Unfortunately, the Friends and Family certificates are *only* available onboard.

We've had lots of folks report not having received them from the LA onboard (in spite of having requested them). So far, C&A has been reported as basically telling those folks that they are out of luck.

The spelling of your name shouldn't be a problem to correct

    Jane

The LA told me that we would receive them when we booked onboard. I expected the NextCruise certificate and the Friend's certificates to be delivered to my stateroom, but instead they came by email.

The last name on the certificates has to match the bookings, so I will see about getting it changed. I just don't understand how someone can mess up a simple name.

  4. I booked a NextCruise on the last day of our recent Liberty cruise. I only put my name down, resulting in a $100 deposit.;)

I received the certificate (actually two identical certificates) by email. There are a few problems, however. My last name is spelled wrong, the designated TA is someone I have never heard of (correct company, wrong TA) and, there are no Friend's and Family certificates attached. :( I'll have to get this all straightened out through my TA, I guess.

  5. cruiserking- You're writing is so eloquent! I am enjoying this thread. :)

Today at 1 pm we had an extremely successful Cruise Critic Cabin Crawl. Our group numbered at least 30 as we participated in a carefree cavalcade of 7 different cabins. We visited Gaylearc's suite an impromptu add in. We stopped off at Bonnie's partially obstructed cabin on deck 4, Patrick's oceanview on 1 deck, Fred and Sherry furnished grapes and gold fish at their VF cabin on deck 7. Thanks also to Suzie and Ruth for featuring their deck six abode. The highlight of the tour was a splendid corner aft suite volunteered by Andrew and Noel, a lovely stateroom with a wrap around deck. We will be meeting here frequently even if there is no Cruise Critic function planned.

I got excited when you mentioned the VF (that's what I will be in on the Noordam ;) ), however there are no VF's on deck 7.

  6. Sea Island Lady, maybe we can wave to each other as we embark/disembark LOL!

Actually, my husband won this trip through his company. It's an incentives gift for sales. He's with a well-known insurance company. They've offered cruises before, but we've never taken them because of my husband's "fear" of ships. To my knowledge, the only boat he's been on was a ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar on one of our company trips. That was AWFUL!!! I'm so surprised he booked this cruise, but it's something I've always wanted to do. Needless to say, I'm elated! I think it's going to be a trip of a lifetime.

Thanks for the advice on the seasick meds. I was planning to take some Bonine with me. My doctor is also giving us a script for the patch. And I'm taking some ginger pills with us. I plan to start with the strap that goes on the wrist. If that doesn't help, I'll try something else. We won't use all of it, of course! That might be counter-productive LOL. I just really want my husband to enjoy himself so much, he'll want to sail again!

I don't want to take over cruiserking thread, so perhaps you can post another thread on this forum, with any questions you might have. :)

  7. Yes, we cruise on the Noordam. Will be getting off, as you get on. :(

We will also spend three days (1 pre-cruise and 2 post) in Rome.

How nice of your husbands work to give their employees a cruise vacation. We have found that Meclizine works the best for sea sickness. Take it BEFORE you start the cruise. I like to take 1/2 pill, because a whole pill makes me sleepy in the evening.

Ours is a 10 day to the following ports.

Dubrovnik, Croatia - Corfu, Greece - Katakolon, Greece - Santorini, Greece - Kusadasi (Ephesus) Turkey - AT SEA - Valletta, Malta - Messina, Sicily

  8. Don't be concerned about appetizers vs. entrees and the order of things. If you want, you can choose all appetizers (as an entree), two entrees, etc. The wait staff will bring you whatever you want.

One evening, I was torn between the beef wellington and something else (maybe rack of lamb?). The waiter brought one of each...I was mortified...and could only eat a little of each. He was concerned that I didn't like it!

The escargot is my very favorite...and offered on one of the formal nights. The next night, the waiter surprised me with another...he had "saved" one for me!

Re the mac and cheese, every so often they have something a little funky on the menu like this...but most entrees are more elegant.

Escargot and lamb are my favorites!

Also, I have been known to get 2 appetizers, but no soup or salad. I always choose an entree, but by the time it comes, I am not that hungry...especially if I have a salad first. of course, then it is a struggle to eat dessert. :)

  9. They do!!! In fact, I had it on our cruise...it was yummy...and it seemed very popular. Sometimes it's nice to just have a little comfort food! ;) And, as I recall, there wasn't anything else on the menu that jumped out and said "order me!!!"

Was this a side, or the main entree? I can get Mac and Cheese at Cracker Barrel...I want something a little more gourmet on a cruise. :D

  10. I think your question got lost, Sea Island Lady.

Yes, Captain Mateboer just boarded Noordam so should be there for about 3 months.

Captain Scott left the ship about April 1.

Thanks sail7seas! I thought that perhaps the Captain might take the helm for the crossing only and then turn the ship over to another . I wasn't sure. :o

I'd love to get his book, also!

I was torn between the Macaroni and Cheese and the Oriental Chicken Salad.

Mac and Cheese! Are you kidding? Does HAL really offer this "dish" on a menu other than the children's menu?

  11. Sundagger,

Interesting topic. As one whose gradual hearing loss went unrecognized for some time, I'm now very concerned for folks in a similar situation. quote]

I logged onto this thread, because both of my parents are hard of hearing and we have a HAL cruise coming up. Thank you to the OP for the information and I will pass it along to the parents.

the2ofus - Your post stood out to me! ;) Could you share your "gradual hearing loss" story. I am contemplating seeing an audiologist for some strange things that are happening with my hearing. :(

  12. There is a very quaint Holiday Inn type place that we stayed in many years ago, so I know Sanford has hotels. My suggestion is for the clients to stay overnight in Sanford and either rent a car the following morning, or get one of the shuttles to take care of transportation to and from the port. You may want to call the Sanford airport for suggestions of companies that are willing to make the drive.

We are taking Allegiant to FLL and thankfully, they use the Hollywood airport.
