  1. How does this work? I thought they got a sticker on their card and as long as they show their card when ordering they get the soda at no charge. DH thought they give you a certain cup to be refilled. But I can't imagine having DS (9) have to carry his cup everywhere. Any info would be great...thanks.

  2. Thanks for the info. I thought he would need his card for the soda part of it and if he was playing in the arcade. I figured they are allowed to have drinks in camp carnival...unless they just provide them in there. And for the arcade, I wasn't sure if they let them go over there together in a group. Can you tell I never sailed with a child before, let alone my own!! He will NOT be allowed to wander on his own...his two older cousins might be going (14 & 17) and have not decided if I will allow him to tag along with them or not.

  3. Hello,

We are taking our DS (9) on his first cruise this year. I want him to have his card but I'm also worried he might lose it. I looked on Ebay at those lanyards..but I can see him swinging it around or playing with it all day. I don't plan on giving him permission to charge, so IF it IS lost my acct isn't cleared out. But I was going to get him the unlimited soda and that is a sticker on the card. (we will be sailing on Carnival). I figured we can put like 20-30 on it here and there for the arcade. But what have other parents found helpful when it comes to the kids sing & sail cards.

  4. I plan on using a cash account (s&s) so would like to sit down, figure out which shore excursions to take and then book it. My DS (9) has only practiced snorkeling in a pool but I was going to book two ports with snorkeling. Incase it backfires...can we switch a shore excursion or board even though it was paid already? Or if I cancel it on the ship can that put it as a credit on my s&s acct? Or does it have to go back on the original card (which would be a debit).

    Thanks!!

  5. I like the idea of the cruise cash. This way I'm putting it aside/back and at the same time it's not the physical $ that could be used for something else. Plus it would start the acct out with something before putting the $ on the ship.

If I chose not to pre-pay gratuities, I heard that they automatically deduct it from the s&s acct....is that true?

  6. About the Kiosks....has anyone ever had problems with them? You feed in 50.00 but it didn't show...can they view you put a 50 into it? Just wondering.

I don't think I would want to add cash on land at check-in. What if they don't add it and here I am sailing away and I don't even know who checked me it.

I know there are a lot of honest ppl in the world but it's the dishonest ones that always seem to find me

  7. I am asking because I don't own a credit card. I do have one debit card to my checking and that is it. And yes, I use it for $3.00 purchases to get milk because I don't normally carry around cash. My debit card has always been my "go to" card. But has anyone not hooked up a CC to their sign & sail? Just paid cash? With all the craziness going on I have been checking my acct every other day since I DO use it almost daily. (Never shopped at Target, but who is to say the little food store down the street or walmart can't do the same thing). So, I have began checking it and I know there prolly won't be internet on the ship to check my balance if I used it on the ship while away. So...just wondered how it worked out.

  8. Hello,

It was a 9.99 a day econo weekend rental with pick up Friday and drop off Monday. I spoke with the local enterprise here in wv and he said that it would be fine to drop off in Baltimore...but it would have to be at select locations. I tried to find out about the return trip scenario but the poor guy was answering the other line and taking care of the counter at closing time. So I told him I'll call back tomorrow and then thought of asking about it here.

Thank you for all the leg work and look up that you did....and yes, if it was going to be that amount we could fly there with less hassle LOL.

  9. I just posted the same message on the "east Coast" board...but then realized this could really go for any port out there. Thanks for the info.

    Hello,

We are considering a May Cruise out of Baltimore. We would be driving and just realized we could get a good "weekend rental rate" to travel up and a one day rate to come home....but has anyone ever done this before? We are looking into Enterprise and if we find a cruise & stay hotel we could drive up the day before, turn in the rental and take the shuttle to the ship. DH thought maybe they can pick us up from the dock to get the car rental for the trip home. Has this ever worked for anyone else? I would love to not put the miles on my car if need be. Thanks!!

  11. I am having a really hard time figuring out what one to book. We are looking at the Pride and I originally suggested a July cruise for my DH's BD around his BD (2 days after) but then HE started looking and saw that May is so much cheaper. DS gets out of school the 16th, but with snow days like today I wouldn't book anything prior to the 26th. Which IS appealing since it puts a holiday in there and DH would only need 4 days off...but I don't like the Orlando port. I then looked south of us, still driving distance at Fantasy who also offers 7 days with the correct eastern itinerary, but I wanted to book a balcony and 1- they don't have a balcony in my price range and 2- only have 1pool.

My, my...how do YOU ALL decide?

  12. I can still see all the pros and cons of each. From making it seem like an extra day (or two) of vacation to catching an early flight. Or for those driving and live within a few hours distance to save the $ on a hotel to do it that day...and of course the biggest one would be if time/work allows the extra day or two prior.

Happy New Year everyone!! Nothing like starting it out right with CC topics! I'm really enjoying this site!

  13. I have never sailed before in a balcony room. This would be my DH 2nd cruise and DS 1st cruise. I would like a balcony since DH & I can sit outside if DS crashes early at night. He is 9 but goes to bed at 8 pm normally and if tired he doesn't hesitate to hit bed at 8 pm.

So- yes, balcony will be booked but I just don't know if extended it worth it the extra $. And If so, even extra for an aft? We are looking into booking the Pride if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your personal input on pros and cons!!

  14. Thanks again for the info.

Like I posted yesterday, I sent her an e-mail and even put both cruise details down to the letter so she could take some time to look the info over and compare it herself.

As of this morning, I still have not heard anything. When I go to pick DS up from school (and I'm waiting in the car line) I will have a good 20 mins or so to talk to her. So if she doesn't touch base prior to that time, I'll just call her.

Family IS very important to me, I have not been back in over 3 years mainly due to work/vacation time. So I can't guarantee her to make it up this summer, but I'm sure we can figure something out.

  15. She is set with the paperwork. She got it and gets it every year just incase something comes up and she wanted to travel with the kids. I sent her an e-mail an hour ago letting her know the actual numbers on the cruise and how it will save 850.00 to go in May vs July.. I have yet to hear back from her...so that isn't a great sign. But I at least got it out there =-)

  16. Happy New Years Everyone.

Before I get negative feedback for my title I would like to give a little background. 2 years ago I told my sister that I wanted to cruise for DH Bd which is less then a week from her BD.

In 2012 & 2013 I have invited her family to join my family for 100% free vacations.....just gas money to get them there (we rented houses both times with plenty of room). I have not seen here since 2010 as we live over 10 hours away. She has $ problems from a divorce and I just really wanted to see her and her kids. Both free vacations she backed out the week prior.

I was kinda hoping she would have forgotten about the 2014 cruise plans b/c I don't think she can afford it. Looking at prices within the last month DH went from wanting to sail around his BD (July) to end of May since it will be a lot cheaper by 300 PP so about 800 (or a free ticket) in my eyes. I mentioned changing the date when she asked me about it and I mentioned changing it to May and she told me that her kids ar not out of school until the end of June and wasn't it our plans to go also. I just said "well, yeah" and left it at that. DH thinks I should call her today to tell her that we need to know if she can afford to go or not b/c if we book for July and she doesn't book )or cancel a booking) then we are paying all that extra $.

How has others handled this? I don't want to hurt her feelings by being so blunt. DH said we even offered her gas $ last min when she backed out the last two years and she still didn't come...so why can we assume she will come this year also. I hate this feeling of needing to have this conversation.

  17. Happy New Year Everyone!

Thank you for your comments, suggestions and opinions. I can see both sides and I guess for us the main thing will be if we can find a hotel within the Baltimore area that are not within the same price as the port will charge us. I know there might be cruise & stay hotels..but the port looks so easy that I want to hit the road when we return and not wait on a hotel shuttle to bring us to our car.

I do like the fact of making the vacation seem longer by going the day prior and no stress on the road 5+ hrs before we hit the ship.
