  1. We usually bring our own, but I'm gonna pass on it this time.

In regards to the button, I understand you can wrap a thick rubber band around it to hold it down while you blow dry your hair. Not sure of the validity of this, but thought I should mention it.

  2. Question:

We'll be in Grand Cayman end of February, but from my research I think I've figured out three very key things:

    1. Generally the shops aren't open till 8-9,

    2. Sometimes the shops close early (Spirits speaking here), 2pm is not unheard of

    3. You NEED to buy your alcohol with enough time for them to deliver it to the ship for you or pay a ridiculous price.

With that stated, husband and I have an excursion that leaves at 9:15, and ends at 2:30 Grand Cayman time.

Is it un-heard of to contact one of the stores at Grand Cayman and find some way to order what we want prior to arrival, and they just deliver it to the ship for us then?

    Any suggestions?

  3. Haven't forgotten anything for a cruise yet, knock on wood.

But that might have something to do with the fact that my first anime convention I forgot to pack deoderant, multiple under garments, as well as toothpaste and tooth brush. After that mind searing lesson. I make a list every trip, listing everything I need. Then I pack it checking it off, and the last thing on the packing list? The packing list so I make sure to bring everything home with me.

My husband is now asking me to read off the list for him, so he doesn't forget anything either.

  4. Please, no jumping into the hot tub! I wasn't even in it, and I'll never get the image of that child cannon balling into the full hot tub, sending water everywher including into some expensive looking drinks.

That was a case of a parent not watching their child I think, unsafe and extremely disruptive btw- saw him do this about three times before he started just splashing everyone.

  5. Meals are preplated. set out in kitchen. A very hectic time in there. Just ask for an empty plate for each evening. Put excess food on plate. I do it all the time, am under 120lbs.Hope to stay that way.

I like this. Cause once it's off the plate I'll know "You can't touch it, don't try" and my self control should be able to handle that. Thank you for such a great idea, I'm gonna write it down so I don't forget!

  6. Maybe you could order from the kids menu. I'd think the portions would be smaller.

    Happy sails!

They would be smaller, but they're not things I generally enjoy.

Especially with new menus being implemented soon I want to have some of the things I've put off in favour of others this cruise.

I really hate leaving food on the plate to, I just wish they could only put half a serving.

When I go to Panera, I have them put half the food in a to-go, and eat the other half there. With resteraunts I don't feel bad taking the rest to go; but in the MDR the Sunshine doesn't even have fridges in most rooms so I couldn't even have it for lunch the following day or some such.

Going to have to do some pre-cruise menu planning prep with the hubby and see what we can do. But the portions are just right for him... augh!

  7. Opposite of what you're likely thinking!

Due to my diet I'm supposed to eat small portions. I've been on two other Carnival cruises, and I know the size of the MDR portions. Back then they made me stuffed if I had one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert.

My question is, other than the pasta, can I get the entrees or the appetizers in a smaller portion then normal? I hate the idea of wasting food by only eating half of the serving. I also know that my self control is going to be such that I'll likely eat all of the appetizer and then have little to no room for entree and dessert (dessert being my favourite)

Has anyone had any experience with requesting even smaller portions in the MDR? Would I talk to someone on the first day to discuss this? Would it be the Maitre D?

Anyway... any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

  8. Love the Dollar Tree for lots of stuff. I have never tried their cold cream though.

And I love ELF. Their Studio line is my favorite. The Studio line brushes are amazing and I will never go back to make up sponges or eye shadow applicators. You can really see a different quality when you apply make up with brushes.

I know! Their studio brushes are amazing, I love their stipple and powder brushes the most. I can't believe they're three dollars, its such a leap from their dollar brushes. Also the studio waterproof mascara, amazing. I've gone swimming in a pool, and didn't budge.

I like the April cold cream more than their personnel care one, right now I want my DT to carry the April mango mandarin body wish, I keep seeing the bubble bath and am tempted to just get that.

I used to.love ulta... but it just got to expensive and after a year long relationship with ipsy and the look bag, I've decided for me its not worth it. No matter how nice the packaging.... although I will admit I do ask for ultas smoothies in cupcake for my birthday!

  9. You will probably not know until you get your sign and sail cards on the ship.

If not happy see the MD upon embarkation.

    This.

This is what happened to us. Didn't change till the next day, so I acted like a child and didn't eat anything in the mdr the first night. Only went cause DH wanted to, and he didn't want to eat alone.

  10. I'm cheap....

Dollar tree: cold cream for face wash, witch hazel for toner, cotton pads, and make up sponges, oh and wet n wild serum mascara

Ross's: for day and night creams (usually no more than five dollars a piece)

E.l.f.: All things makeup related. They have some awesome stuff, their primer is a fave of mine and I love their assemble your own quad eyeshadow set. Their products range from 1-6 dollars. I recommend checking out YT for reviews.

  11. I did this last cruise, so didn't have to struggle with shaving in a tiny shower during the cruise, and worry about missing hairs. It was really worth it. The hair doesn't grow back for quite a while, at least on me. I felt my legs were extra smooth and nice for the cruise. It cost me $80 plus $10 tip in California two days before the cruise. Actually made my cruise experience nicer. I will get my legs professionally waxed before the next cruise too. Ta-da, don't have to give a thought to shaving and leg hair all during the cruise!

    This.

Except I go to the beauty school, I'm so nit-picky and between the teacher an I, those students get everything. Also only costs me forty dollars for the whole leg. Follow it up with a facial, and I can avoid the spa on the ship the whole time. I like the students because a. They're more dilligent as they try to get it right and b. They take their time so I don't feel as rushed and c. Of course price!

Temporary pain is sooo much nicer then slicing your leg on a razor when you go at a spot the wrong way or the razor burn I always get.

  12. Once its set to airplane mode, you're fine. Brought my iphone on my cruises, and only ever took it off airplane more in FL, never saw any additional charges. I use mine as an mp3 player when I'm relaxing on deck. Never bothered opening any other apps on ship, but trust me if there was ANYTHING att would've charged me.

  13. I would be so happy if they're enforcing this on the Sunshine. Last two cruises, granted I am NOT an early riser, DH and I were looking everywhere for just one empty lounger. What irked me the most was I wanted to be in the serenity area, and it wasn't packed by any means at the time, but every chair was spoken for by some object or another.

I have yet to spend anytime in the Serenity area other than a quick look to determine that everything is "taken"

I look forward to carnival finially enforcing their own, and imo, important, rules!

  14. I don't mean to hijack, but was wondering something:

I just put in a, I guess, request with NativeWay for our trip at the end of Feb, as there'll be three ships in port that day. Since you're not paying for anything up front in this instance, how do you pay? At the pier, do you pay by card closer to the excursion date?

Also, we're leaving out of NOLA so CST, but Grand Cayman is on EST... but then the GC port Authority arrival/departure times match what carnival.com says for my itinerary. Pretty much, does carnival.com list the local time on the itinerary, but there's CST for ship time; or is it more like GCPA just didn't convert the arrival/departure time to their time. This is my first time doing excursions from a third party, so I just want to clarify things asap so we don't miss anything/aren't standing around for an hour waiting.

  15. I just saw the new menus over on zydecocruiser so now I'm scared it'll go fleet wide by my cruise. Not to be horribly picky but I did not see a lot of vegetarian options, and I love the pumpkin and yam pie!

There just over all didn't seem to be as many choices either. Hopefully I shall get a chance to try some of the things that I said "next time" when we cruised last March. I was really looking forward to creme brulee as I didn't have any last cruise, and I was always curious about their tofu steak.

  16. There were also lone adults at the one my DD and I attended. There was no one taking anyone else's seats, there were plenty. If there was a line for seats, then taking it to your cabin would be an option, OP. However, saying a lone adult doesn't belong at an adult attended function with kids in mind is liking saying adults don't belong in toy stores or the real build a bear shops. I think if you want to go OP, then go. It's your cruise too. Some of the lone adults I chatted with were making new friends for their kids/grandkids to have upon return, others for their furry house mates or themselves lol. If stuffed critters are what you collect from vacations to remember them by, then by all means go and enjoy. :D

Thank you. I certainly don't mean to make any of the parents uncomfortable by being there.

But I would love to have a plush to remeber the trip by, my husband tells me that when our daughter is born its going to be hard because I'm going to have to sharethe stuffed animals that we purchase.

  17. Evidently I shall be bringing back three bottles on this port! Tortuga and some BBD for the friends!

I greatly appreciate the suggestions, mango rum sounds to yummy to pass up, especially since I love my rum and vodkas in pineapple juice!

  18. Likely an odd question, but....

Last year on the splendor there was a build a bear workshop, but it was in circle c(or one of the other non-adult clubs) so even though I wanted to go I opted not to.

We`re leaving on the Sunshine in Feb and I was wondering three things:

    1. Does Sunshine have a build a bear workshop?

    2. Is it in one of the under adult clubs?

    3. How out of place/weird/can I even? Go and build one?

I know it sounds odd, at twenty-eight, but I like to get plushies from each cruise, and since I got a Freddie on the first one, I`d love to "make" one.

Thank you to anyone who can help.

  19. We`ll be on the Sunshine once. I thought I read somewhere that for breakfast you can get omlettes at Jijis. Wasn`t sure of the validity of that so thought I`d ask. Also, if not Jijis, where would one locate the omlette station as evidently some have been having difficulty locating it. Thank you!

  20. Hands down....Big Black Dick's Rum. Awesome (AND a fun name).

Oh, I heard of that when I was doing research on the last cruise... evidently it's very tasty. Which would also make an AWESOME present for some friends (who love rum and cards against humanity)

Where do I procure this awesome rum?
