  1. Boarded Ventura yesterday on a saver fare. Was offered a table allocation we were not keen on. Joined the queue to discuss with restaurant manager. Our request was noted and we later got a confirmation of our new allocation. Manager said that they are not told passengers fare types and where they can, they just look to give people what they would like. Ventura is far from full so very possible but on a full cruise less possible.

I can assure you the Restaurant Manager on our cruise obviously did. I am not in the habit of fabricating the facts. It may not sit comfortably with people but we overheard exactly what I posted.

  2. I don't understand all this. P&O offer a Select Fare and it offers various advantages. The Saver Fare is a cheaper option and by purchasing it you accept that you may not get these advantages. You pay your money and take your choice so why moan about not getting dining options etc?

We book a Select Fare because we want to choose our dining option and our cabin. We don't complain when people get the same cruise at a lower price. That was our choice. We have booked a late deal at a low price and we were told at the time that we may not get the dining option we requested. We didn't and accepted that with no complaining.

I absolutely agree. On our recent cruise we overheard a man asking the restaurant manager for a table for 2, 1st sitting. He explained he was on the Ligurian Tier and was always able to change to a table for 2 once on board. I'm afraid we found it really funny when the restaurant manager told him that as he'd booked an 'El Cheapo' price he would probably not be able to change. In fairness he did say that IF a table for 2 became available he would allocate it to the passenger. He did ask if the passenger would consider either sittings. At first he was reluctant but eventually agreed. I don't know if he got his table for 2 but obviously P&O are sticking to the policy. Quite right too IMO.

  3. It was our first cruise on the Grand Princess for our 25th wedding anniversary in 2012. We joined a group of people from CC on an independent tour of Pompeii and the Amalfi coast, we had a great time, however returning to the ship was a nightmare.

We were in a place called Positano which was miles away from the ship, I really did think we were leaving it a bit late getting back to the ship but I thought the driver must know what he's doing. We got in traffic along the winding roads and I thought oh my god we are going to miss the ship, I kept quiet though not wanting to worry everyone.

Eventually I told my husband my fears in which he said don't be daft we've got loads of time but I 'cried no we've not we should be on the ship now!!' Everyone else was asleep with not a care in the world, my heart was pounding especially when we got to the toil road and then in a bigger Jam, this is when we asked the driver to ring the port to see if the ship could wait, the driver then realised the urgency of the situation and raced over the speed bumps, we could see the ship in the distance and just prayed it would wait.

Half an hour late and the mini bus pulled alongside the dock, we then had to bomb up a lot of steps to get to security in which they just shouted run, everyone on the ship was cheering and clapping, we where so lucky and learned a valuable lesson to make sure you tell the tour operator that you need to get back to the ship at least an hour before you have to.

A member of our group thanked the captain for waiting, he said our papers had been got together to say we where staying on shore, he thought we had all been drinking but we haven't had a drop.

I used to watch a programme on TV about cruise ships and used to think the ship should just go without the idiots, and now I'm one of them, I still feel sick thinking about it but it's not put me off, It's our second cruise this May and I can't wait.

That's my worst nightmare:eek:We always do the ship's excursions because I'm so worried we'll miss the ship.

  4. Yes I do clean my cabin.I see how some people behave on the ship and I wonder how clean was the last person in my cabin. I clean light switches, the remote, door handles. I clean the drawers before I put my clothes in and I clean the hangers and the inside of the wardrobes.

I always use a wet wipe to press the lift buttons, never touch them with my hand. I carry my own little bottle of antiviral hand wash in my handbag when out and about on the ship and on excursions.
