OK, experts! What can I expect, in general, for temps, etc on a TA in July?
TIA!

I arrived early to the ship this past Dec. no problem. However, you don't board until they are ready...

Has anybody used this service and how much does it cost?

Wouldn't do it any other way!! Have used it four times now and no problems! However, I hope I didn't just
Jinx myself as I'm sailing again in July!

It depends on the Captain on the particular voyage, some advance them at noon and others at 2am. You will have Oprey I think and I believe that he favours noon.
Rynd did as well on the Jan 3 crossing... I liked this better... Much easier to adjust and not miss breakfast... ;-)

I did my first TA this past January. LOVED it!! It was not all smooth sailing with some rough weather encountered. But, hey, sometimes you can't even have a smooth flight! It was soooo much more relaxed than flying! WILL do it again as soon as I can! Enjoy!

I travelled QG last voyage and was seated at a table for 6. After a couple of days we just sort of showed up at the same time each night for dinner. Breakfast and lunch were whatever people wanted to do. Some did room service for breakfast, some did the dining room every day, and it was pretty much the same for lunch. We did try to dine together at night. I only ended up dining alone a couple of times for breakfast...

I'm sure you are correct but I won't be giving it a try because I'm uninterested in any ship not named Queen Mary 2.
This one made me chuckle! I've sailed QM2 twice now, the only other cruise I took was in 1984 on Brand X. I did the Christmas cruise in 2012 and 2013. I can't really imagine being happy on any other ship! And, even nicer, was how nice a few people were when they realized we had met the previous year!

Thanks, Parsman.

With all that is going on in Malaysia right now, does anyone think the Black Watch will make it's scheduled stop in Koto Kinabalu?

Do you ballroom dance?? :-)
I was an only child growing up, so I have always been content when traveling solo to keep myself company. But as I've gotten older, I'm starting to enjoy dining with strangers as well. So I will tell the maître d that I don't mind sitting with someone if that will be helpful. As a result I have been fortunate to meet some of the most pleasant and interesting folk you can imagine. I have a few simple rules. I try never to dominate the conversation, instead opting to be the interested listener. I also try to be sympathetic or at least open to the opinions of others. No one is wrong in my eyes. They just have a different viewpoint. No politics will I discuss if I can help it. I try to be generous with my time, and endeavor to be a gentleman. I'm happy to share a few drinks with a new found friend and I will help you stagger back to your cabin if you've had too much fun, but I try to attempt to remain sober myself. I don't consider myself superior mind you.i just behave better when I'm under control. My main objective is that when I take my leave, they think to themselves, "what a nice agreeable bloke. I think that being nice to people is a very simple exercise to perform and frankly I'm good at it. :DSent from my iPad using Forums

Personally, I can't wait to cruise again and see white dinner jackets and black or red bow ties!! Love it, love it, love it!! Cunard , that is! :-)

I don't travel in the Grills as steerage is luxurious enough for me, (though a complimentary upgrade is always welcome). I sincerely hope Cunard maintains the Grills because, I believe, those passengers subsidize my fare.
At $20,000+ I bet they do! ;-). Remember I was QG last voyage. Loved it! But, see NO reason to cordon off Royal Court or anywhere else...
Someone posted (complained) about seeing shorts and sandals on a formal night during the recent Caribbean Fiesta cruise... We must have seen the same guy... But, unless you take a circuitous route to the theater after dinner, you walk through King's Court. But, hey, he was allowed to as he wasn't anywhere else.

Hear! Hear! I hope that we can all agree with you on this. QM2's grand public spaces, open to all, are among her best features.
Hear!! Hear!! NO need for further discrimination...

15 bags for one person? How did they manage to fit everything in only 15?!
LOL!!

When I arrived in Southampton this past January, I counted fifteen bags for one passenger... Well, the was only one person walking behind the porter who was pushing the cart. I used the White Star service and there was a limit on each bag - bags were being sent via FedEx... I took much more than I needed but I didn't go over any limits with three bags - four if you count what I managed to get into a 'carry on.'

Thanks, Tigernut. I was on the QM2 over Christmas and found the Internet VERY slow most times and at other times not at all. The prices you quote sound a bit better!

Does anyone know how much they charge for Internet access on the Black Watch?
Thanks, Lisa.

This conversation has deteriorated into nasty comments about Australians and no longer of interest.
I didn't think so... They may not be Australians who are boarding?

This discussion thread is making me want to get sailing again!! :)
I also enjoy travelling as a solo and, with one exception, I never had problems in making contacts. To the contrary: I love it!However, I don't agree that one has to sit near the dance floor etc. to be noticed. Whenever I have been to the Queens Room, hosts came by to 'take care'. The same applies to photographers.
I would like to recommend not to stay amongst singles only, but also to mix with others (not too much, there are some jealous women watching their husbands ...)

Oprey must have been on vaca for the Caribbean Cruise?
He is indeed still the Captain as of today. Ship arrived in Sydney this morning and sails at 2030 tonight. -
I danced so much I had to wear regular shoes at one point for the lessons! The balls of my feet hurt! ;-) But, hey, it was worth it!
....
I noticed at the lessons that many people do not wear proper shoes, and I slipped into the habit of wearing anything rather than appearing different, but in the end I decided that it's so much easier to dance in the proper shoes that it was worth doing it.

The only crew members I saw wearing name tags and regular street clothes were upper level staff, like Jessica, and the dance hosts. And, I never heard any rumors of much staff leaving the ship in NY - nor, for unpaid wages. I saw the same staff when we all reboarded after having to disembark per US regulations (now this is something to complain about! And, not Cunard's fault!).
I did a review in the Review section. Overall, I had a great trip. As I say in my review, it was't without some bumps in the road, but I had a great time!

Oprey was not on the QM2 for the Caribbean Cruise this past December. I think it was Rynd?

I have sailed twice now on QM2 as a solo traveller. I have enjoyed the company of new acquaintances both times - PG and QG. (As a side note, I don't see the need to go higher than PG.). I never felt alone. Each trip was different and each group was different. The first year, I was a VERY new beginner to ballroom dance. Not all hosts were accommodating. And, there were less dance hosts that year. This past cruise I had taken many lessons - still a beginner. It took about a week but I would learn who I could do what with. I'm from the US so American is the style I learned. Fortunately, there were two American dancers I could do East Coast Swing, Hustle, and Tango with. Another dance host and I worked out a pretty good Waltz and Quickstep. All in all, as a solo traveler, I had a great time! Wouldn't hesitate to do it again!

Current Boudicca Cruise
in Fred. Olsen Cruise Line
Posted
Hi folks, I have been trying online to find the current cruise, with ports of call, for the Boudicca, which left Avonmouth/Bristol yesterday. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
