  1. By recommendation of one of the shopkeepers in town we walked to the Fish House in Ketchikan for lunch. And boy were we glad that we did!

We both ordered the fish samplers and split a bowl of salmon chowder. The fish was panko breaded and fried to perfection. You can order beers and cocktails at the bar.

The restaurant seating wraps around the back and gives a fantastic view of the harbor, mountains, and the water.

  2. EXCELLENT review. Your pictures are STUNNING, and you guys are so adorable! We sail the Caribbean on the Bliss in November (done the itinerary, going this time mainly for the SHIP!)

Quick question -- I saw one of the pics during the cruise critic M&G, they had mozzarella sticks going around...my mouth salivated. Are they back on the menu at The Local?!!? *PRAYING PRAYING PRAYING*

I posted the Local menu earlier. I’m actually having lunch there now. Don’t see the sticks on the menu though...

  3. INTERNET ACCESS

The internet on the Bliss is the best I’ve experienced on any cruise ship so far. It’s certainly not the cheapest but definitely the fastest. SpeedTest shows 15 Mbps down and 16.6 Mbps up which is excellent for internet at sea.

If you want to save a little money on the Unlimited packages you can wait to purchase them until Day 2. The first day you will still have cellular data while in port in Seattle.

By waiting until Day 2, you’ll only be paying for 6 days instead of 7 and the prices are correspondingly lower.

However this is only good until Day 2. Afterward it appears that they don’t have the packages available anymore.

I purchased the middle package on Day 2 for $179.94 instead of the $210 it was originally listed at on Day 1.

The other thing to consider is that you should have cellular data while in port in Alaska so the WiFi packages are really only for the days and nights at sea.

  4. Do you know if the physical Starbucks reward card would work? I usually have a few rewards and I also keep a $ balance on it to pay for my drinks and would like to just use my gold reward card to pay. Thanks for your help - you are so kind to keep us all informed!

Yes. The physical Starbucks cards work. We have been using ours.

  5. Enjoying the Local on the Bliss. We’ve had two of our four meals so far on this cruise at the Local.

We were big fans of O’Sheehans on our past cruises so we were looking forward to try out its replacement.

Check my Bliss Travelogue thread for photos of the breakfast menu as well.

  6. Today we decided to grab some coffees at the onboard Starbucks before the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet. You CAN use your physical Starbucks Card to purchase drinks. So I would think that you would accrue star rewards with your purchases. Unfortunately, I don’t believe that the phone app will work onboard though.

  7. As someone who has driven sports cars on actual tracks like Sebring and Daytona I still had a good time on the GoKart track.

It definitely feels faster than the videos make it look. Eight laps is plenty.

The double decker design and the elevation changes make it more fun than the usual flat track. The turns are very tight and the simulated engine sound is piped into the helmets.

It is very windy at the track so it could become very cold for most Alaska cruises. We chose to schedule ours for the afternoon leaving Seattle.

My biggest issues were that the “boost” button on the steering wheel didn’t seem to do anything.

Also the track was a little too tight to allow for passing so I got caught up behind slower traffic for most of the race. I just passed two cars on the lower start/finish straight.

And if you are plagued with a giant melon head like myself you will have a hard time getting a helmet that fits because they are full face helmets. I had to ask the attendant to find the largest helmet they had and even so it was painful to put on and I really had to struggle to get my glasses back on because there was no space to put the eyeglass arms over my ears.

  8. Thanks for posting the dailies and especially for the Port Valet information. I was curious if this service would be available for the Bliss and you have confirmed it!! If you plan on using it please report back and let us know how it worked out.

It’s our first time seeing this. The Guest Services representative said it was the first time for Seattle. We’re excited to try it out!

  9. Subscribed! Thank you so much!!

The main theatre show on day 1 was a variety show with short snippets of the performances we will be seeing throughout the week. No photography was allowed.

It was interspersed with what seemed like advertisements for the spa, casino, and other onboard extras. Some even incorporated some interpretive dance
