  1. All the "--Breeze" ships started out in life in the 50s and 60s. The OceanBreeze was the first ship to have a single rear funnel. These ships had character. Dolphin never had a lot of money so the Cruse Director's staff had to be very creative since these ships did not have much in the way of indoor facilities and when it rained, there was no Promenade or indoor lounges. Think the 12 days of Christmas sung as a cruise ditty with flushing toilets, etc.

  2. Most of the Premier fleet came from Dolphin Cruise Line. The SeaBreeze, OceanBreeze, IslandBreeze (nee Carnival Festivale) and the SS Dolphin. They were all older ships that had been converted from multi class to single class cruising. The food service on Dolphin was by Apollo Catering, the same company that ran Celebrity's catering (before the RCI merger).

None of these ships could survive in today's environment, both economics and SOLAS so they all have been broken up in India except for the SeaBreeze whose engines stalled during a bad storm and since the ship could not turn, sunk.

  3. We have been to Touch of Gold on SXM (and St Thomas and Aruba) many times. DW tends to get moderate priced stuff and feels she has always gotten good service and good pricing from them.

Several years ago she bought diamond stud earrings from them but within a year regretted not buying bigger stones. On our next trip they let her exchange the earrings for a bigger size, charging only the difference, using the ubiquitous calculator ( :D ) to compute the extra $$ due.

We have never had any problems with any of the goodies bought from them over the years and will be visiting them next week, off the Explorer, for a delayed Mothers day gift ( while I head down to Boolchands for an advance Fathers day gift) :D:D:D

  4. Be careful renting a car on this island. I looked into it, and all the car hire companies have a massive deductible amopunt, which applies even if you take out all the insurance they offer. They probably won't mention this to you unless you specifically ask the question.

Hertz is $900 Avis is $500 Arthurs is $2500 - I am a safe driver who has rented cars all over the world, but it only takes someone else to run into you and you have a massive bill.

    Arthurs is $ 2,500 ???????

Wow, that is absurd. Wonder how all the people here who use him every trip feel about that. I am rethinking my preference for Hertz if the $900 number is correct. For $ 400 I can walk a block outside the pier to Avis.
