  1. The tour I am looking at will take us down in a golf buggy and we can strap the wheelchair to the back of the buggy. As it said it is not cheap - pickup from ship - USD579 each - but at least it is a possibility for a non walking wheelchair user

  2. Anyone know when 2020 Alaska Cruise season will be available for booking as my wife is in a wheelchair and I need to get in on release date as many WCHR cabins sell out so fast I keep missing out

    Interested in X, RCCI & HAL

  4. I am thinking about an Asian cruise ex Singapore returning to Singapore and looking at the drink packages and they include up to $10 therefore if I want a cocktail and its say $13 do I have to pay the $13 or just $3 or do they have a premium package that I can't see yet as I haven't booked yet?

    Also is it $59 USD or AUD

    I have only travelled Celebrity before using their premium package and it covered up to $14 so I never paid any extra.

  5. Hi There

    For those in a wheelchair.

    We recently travelled Sydney to Honolulu via Bay of Islands,Auckland, Papette, Moorea, Bora Bora, Maui and my wife could only get off in Auckland and Papette as the rest were tender ports. I got off everywhere but my wife can not stand or take any steps and uses a wheelchair all the time. We were prepared for this so I am not complaining at all but I had the question before I travelled and no-one seemed to know whether Solstice would allow a full wheelchair person to get off on a tender so I wanted to share the answer and it is NO and I can now see why.

    There is a mechanised seat that can get you down to the tender deck (3 down to 2) but once there you need to be able to step into the tender boat as both the tender and the ship can go up/down (sometimes in opposite directions) at any time depending on the swell in the water. At times I saw a gap of 18 inches to 2 feet (even on a smooth day) and unless you are stable on your feet an injury would be quite possible. The ship staff are not allowed to lift anyone for obvious reasons.

    Enjoy the ship and it's facilities and don't worry about going ashore as most of the roads and footpaths are gravel and uneven anyway so in a wheelchair it would not be at all comfortable and you would not be able to go on the small busses etc anyway.

  6. We sailed Sydney to Honolulu and Cellarmasters is the best place for Craft Beers but all the other bars have some as well. Martini boys got me a few Sierra Nevada's each night and even the somillier in the dining room got me a few frothies that accomodated my tastes.

  7. Thanks for the responses.

    As going coastal said we have a quite number of days on board before we are going to try for Moorea and whilst at Bay of Islands NZ (tender port) I will go down and see how they do the tender and ask some questions. Last time we did not even bother trying but this time I am a bit more willing to try and we have a special lifting sling that has great handles to lift her and we are travelling with friends this time so I have plenty of help.

    Sling is http://www.promove.uk.com/promove-slings-disabled-individuals/

    and she has a lightweight foldable wheelchair so as long as we can lift her into the tender and el capitano will let us do it and its not rough then I reckon we could make it.(fingers crossed :))

  8. I think $100 AUD per day is ok and I love the convenience of not worrying how much each drink is as I have already paid.

    To me a holiday is kick back and enjoy and not watch your bill everyday because you may have overspent and then have to cut back to stay in budget - that is not a holiday to me.

    Some friends just went on P&O out of Sydney around the Pacific & spent more than that.

    Yes $100 x 18 days for my next cruise is a lot x 2 (my wife) but as I explain to other friends if is only a lot because of the multiplier effect (days per cruise)

    eg.if you were on a 7 day cruise you wouldn't even question $700.

    Considering this includes nice coffee,bottled water,nice OJ for breakfast, a cocktail, a glass of red with dinner and of course a beer or two and I am in front everyday. The free coffee and fruit juice are terrible.

    My calculations are as was in the calculator, I only need to have 3 beers a day plus a couple of coffees,oj,water, maybe a cocktail etc and I am in front.

    You don't have to have much for it to soon add up.

  9. This actually changed in April this year

    This is a post I read back then and paid for my Apr 2016 cruise drinks package before the price increase. The calculator I attached earlier already has the increased prices ie. $65 for premium

    Beginning on April 6, 2015 for all sailings beginning on or after that date, we will be raising most of our beverage package prices onboard. *From April 6, 2016 - April 19, 2015, our current prices will remain pre-cruise, thereby giving a "pre-cruise pricing advantage." *As of April 20, 2015, however, the pre-cruise prices will be raised to match the onboard prices.

    The following changes will be:

    • Soda Package $8.00 --> $9.00
    • Premium Water Package $14.00 --> $16.00
    • Classic N/A Beverage Package $16.00 --> $18.00
    • Premium N/A Beverage Package $20.00 --> $22.00
    • Classic Beverage Package $49.00 --> $55.00
    • Premium Beverage Package $59.00 --> $65.00

    Please note that the same beverages will still be available under each package, and that no drinks will be removed from any of these packages. The prices also do not include the 18% gratuity. Lastly, the wine package pricing will not be changing.

  10. So I have decided to get a car hire in Papette for the day and as we are arriving on a Sunday the town office will be closed by the time I am ready to collect the car so I will have to get a taxi to the airport to collect it.

    My question is if I drive back to the cruise terminal to pickup my friends is there somewhere to park next to the terminal so I can go back on board to collect them?

  11. We started with six but now have 10 people travelling and was wondering how the tables are setup for 10 if this number can be accommodated.

    Last time we were on a round table of six and I didn't take any notice of any of the other tables. Would it be a round table for 10 or a rectangle or is 6 the max.

  12. Thanks miched

    I have read all the FAQ & seen that but I have also read in my research on the net that some tender boats have an upper section where subject to the weather and Captains approval a person has wheeled on to the tender boat and stayed on that upper section for the journey across to the port. I also understand that it also depends on tides and the height of the dock. We understand this may be rare and I was looking for someone who may have done this to find out their experience. We did a 14 day NZ to Sydney last year and didn't even bother to try because of what we read on FAQ but this time doing 18 day Sydney to Hawaii via French Polynesia & I thought I might look into it further.
