  1. What if the ship dicks in San Basilio? I confirmed with WindStar today this is where we’ll most likely be docking. It looks like there’s a Vaporetto that stops there, but can someone confirm this? Thanks

  2. Thanks for this thread. We’re coming to Rome a couple of nights before our cruise in May 2018.

So far, we’re looking at getting a shared shuttle from the airport to our hotel, just so we can get our bearings straight and we’ll be exhausted coming off a 16-hour day of flying. We’ve booked a reservation at Hotel Napoleon. I liked the area, has direct access to the Termini Station, so we can get to the Vatican easily as well as the train to the cruise port the next day.

We have reservations for two different tours at the Vatican. One is for the museums, Sistine Chapel and the Basilica. The 2nd is the Catacombs of the Vatican.

We plan to take the train to the cruise ship the next day, but we can leisurely get breakfast at the hotel (included in our stay) and then head over to the port.

  3. We used Rome cabs to get from the port to the airport. Outstanding service. Seriously this was the best cab service we have ever exoerienced in our travels. Look them up you can really count in them. Have a great trip. Where are you staying in Venice, a word to the wise you will really regret it if you stay near St. Matks. I know Venice well and adore the city. Happy Sailing.

In Venice, we’re staying at Hotel Olimpia right outside the Piazzale Roma.

In Rome, we’re staying at Hotel Napoleon outside of the Rome Termini Station.

  4. To the laundry question they have ample laundry bags in your cabin or simply ask for extra.

We did the Venice to Rome on the Surf Mat 17. It was exceptional. I reviewed it. If you have questions ask away. My interests are different than most passionate for art, opera, Italy, Venice and food. Happy Sailing

Thank you Strenz! Appreciate it. We’ve got our hotel in Rome and Venice and have Vatican City museum/Sistine Chapel and Vatican City catacomb tours already set.

I think I’m most nervous about the transportation to/from the hotel and airport.

  5. What service is the dog trained to perform?

In the case of PTSD for veterans, service dogs can be trained to detect when the vet is about to have a panic attack or flashback and can intervene by keeping them grounded and focused on the hear and now, to prevent any dissociation from happening.

  6. At present California does not offer them and likely what your husband will be getting is a REAL ID compliant license. As noted on the exemplars above if the new license only has a gold star on it then it is a REAL ID compliant license and not an EDL (which would have a US flag on it).

Yes, thank you. I meant to say the RealID. Too early in the morning for me [emoji846]

  7. On a mega ship with 3000 people, if 1% of the passengers join the roll call here, that's 30 people. On the Windsurf with 300, 1% is one person. Its not a mystery why the roll calls here are small.

I totally understand and agree. I would be nice tho to be able to bounce ideas with someone else from the same cruise, ya know? LOL

  8. I wonder how many people will be on this cruise ?

Obviously only a small proportion of cruisers post on Cruise Critic but there seems to be no roll call at all on here for the two 7 day B2B cruises we have on Wind Surf commencing 17th February.

I believe it had an itinerary change and many people cancelled - which is how we booked at fire sale price.

But surely some CC member other than us must be on the ship?

I started a Roll Call for our upcoming cruise and so far it’s us and one other couple who have come forward. [emoji23]

  9. This is a pet peeve of mine as I’ve worked with people with disabilities for all of my adult life. Yes, there are many reasons to have a legitimate service dog (not just blind or Deaf). There are also many entitled people who think that because they have a well behaved dog, they can throw a vest on him/her and voila!! They can bring their dog along. I personally know people like this. Drives me insane.

I am wondering in all sincerity if the cruise ships aren’t registered with the US and international water laws apply, does the ADA apply on cruise ships? I’m honestly curious about this.

  10. My husband and I were supposed to cruise Alaska 2 years ago. Needless to say, we never made it to the ship when on our first night in Seattle, my husband had a massive heart attack, landing him in emergency surgery and ICU for a week.

Having that insurance was a G-d send. Not only did they reimburse us for the flights and the cruise fare, it also paid for our medical bills. The insurance company’s medical team called me daily to get updates on my husband and coordinate care. They almost sent us home with a nurse and oxygen upon his discharge, but it was decided by both the medical teams and the hospital that it wasn’t necessary.

I will NEVER travel without travel insurance again. The money is so worth it and the peace of mind in knowing there is someone there in time of need.

  11. My DH and I just booked on RCCL. Now trying to decide if we need to buy insurance. Do you always get insurance? I read some of the reasons why such as cussing during hurricane season or possible family emergency.

    Thanks for your input

    Carla

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS. You never know when you’ll need it and if you do, you’ll be super glad you have it.

  12. Go to insuremytrip.com and put in yout information and you’ll get about 20 quotes. Find the one that is best for you. I’ve done this with every trip. I’ve even had to use it on my way up to Alaska, when my husband had a massive heart attack in Seattle before embarkation. Ended up in the hospital for a week. Needless to say we missed the cruise, but the travel insurance reimbursed us every cent and all the medical bills.

I’m a HUGE a fan of travel insurance!!
