One member in our party of 8 was refused boarding because she brought a copy of her original Birth Certificate. Thankfully, she was born in Texas (you can get an official BC at any courthouse in Texas) and we're were in Galveston. She got a certified BC and we all got to vacation.
This is different in each state. In my home state (Oklahoma) you can only get a certified BC in OKC at Vital Records.
Better safe than sorry!

Guess I should've prefaced my previous statement with, "I always bring a plethora of documentation (notarized documents, power of attorney, birth certificates, passports, shot record, etc...) I just haven't been asked for any of it."
By all means prepare... my point was that we weren't asked for anything other than her passport.

Technically, between my cruises and the cruises with her grandparents we have been "okay" for eight cruises.

I take all kinds of documentation... I haven't ever been asked for anything other than her boarding documents.
And yes, she should have her documentation, relax and enjoy her vacation.

My daughter's father left when she was 6 weeks old. She and I cruised when she was a year and three months old with only birth certificates. (Nothing was said.) We got her passport when she was two and she has been on 3 other cruises with me. (Nothing was said.) My parents have taken her twice without me... last names are different... again, nothing was said. You should be fine. Relax and enjoy!

Just saw this. We went through this with my niece. She developed med-resistant seizures and had 4 brain surgeries in 6 months. The last one was crippling, but you do what you have to do to try and save her life. (She's still alive, but just a shell of herself.)
Anyways, we had the cruise booked before this all happened. So, long story short... We checked our text messages twice on the 7 day cruise, hoped she didn't die while we were gone, and tried to relax.
It wasn't the most fun, but the vacation was needed. You have to do what you can live with. Wishing happiness, healthiness, and healing to you and yours.

Before my daughter got her passport, there were separate lines for those boarding with passports and those with birth certificates. We went through the same line because she was so young. Thankfully, Carnival doesn't do that anymore. My experiences are that it takes a few more minutes to get onboard and through customs without passports. You'll be fine. Relax and enjoy the blue water.

My parents, daughter, and I sailed on Christmas. We were in port on Christmas Eve and sailing on Christmas Day. It didn't feel like Christmas, but we were trying to get away from family drama. Santa came onboard to visit. We sang carols in the atrium. Carnival decorated the ship beautifully and it was a great escape.

I am THAT girl- you know the one who can only cruise during Christmas, Spring Break, and summer. This is my 5th cruise, but 1st summer cruise. We averaged on all other cruises paying between $2,500-$3,600 for an interior. CRAZY!
Imagine my surprise when I received a free cabin offer from the casino. It was too good to pass up. So, my August 9th cruise cost my a grand total of $414.84 for an 8d balcony on Lido. (Would've been free if I'd stuck to an interior.)
