Hi, I have spent a few days in Warnemunde and loved it! It will give you an idea on how Germans vacation! I would advise taking the train to Rostock and then taxi to Warnemunde. I don't remember train service to Warnemunde. Wonderful small community on the coast! Plus you get to visit Berlin! :)

Did you book through the bike company at the pier?

Hi, depending on weather (Oct.) we may try it! Looks like they have a great trail system.

Hi, I am having a difficult time deciding whether to stay in Halifax or go to Peggy's Cove. On my list for sure is to go to the Cemetery where members of the Titanic are buried. Is it easy to get the cemetery is we just stay in port without a car?
In your opinion, is Peggy's Cove worth a visit if we have never been to Novia Scotia?
Thank you,

I have lots of companies to explore! I have been on a land tour from Vienna to Munich and saw many trails along theDanube. Also, many people biking along the Rhine!

Hi:
Just wondering if you know which cruise companies offer bicycling as a land option?
Last year, we were on the Romantic Rhine with Avalon. We had the option to bike near Amsterdam. It was a blast.
If we do another cruise, I would like this option. I did see that Avalon is offering a more active tour on the Danube for 2017.
Thanks

Hi:
Thank you, what you described was very helpful. I logged into myAvalon and the excursion tab is missing a couple of cities.
We are traveling a few days before and 2 of the days will be in Lucerne. I will keep the Mt. Pilatus in mind in case it is cloudy the days we are there.
We are also offered a bike ride in rural Amsterdam. I think we may try that as an extra excursion.
Thanks for describing some of your excursion. Very, very excited for our first river cruise.

Hello:
I am hoping that dressier long tops with leggings will be acceptable for our dinners? I had read that dress was more casual.
Could you talk a little more about the excursions?
Thank you for the information provided. It is a great help.

Hi: Again thank you. Your report is so helpful. There are four of us traveling end of September 2015. We are thinking 2-3 nights in Germany, then two nights in Switzerland prior to boarding our boat for the cruise. Would 1.5 days be sufficient for Lucerne?
-
Thanks Jerry, we will be traveling September 2015 on the Avalon from Basel to Amsterdam. I believe the itinerary is a little different, your report is very helpful. I was surprised how many miles you put on each day.

Yes to Avalon Felicity. Talked our friends into it. Yes they wanted to go on Viking based on name recognition. We are so looking forward to it.
Sorry if I wasn't clear before. Have been working too much and need a vacation!

Clarification: should state number of passengers on cruise. 180 vs. 130 potential.
Also will be on boards for the upcoming year. We are so excited to try this form of travel.

Update!
Thanks everyone. Remember we are traveling with another couple. They wanted to go on Viking.
I was not opposed but wanted to make sure that is the correct decision for us.
We pulled up both ships and compared sizes and rooms. Viking ship is Eir and Avalon Felicity.
We ultimately made our decision on room size and passengers on ship for tours. We are going through a TA. I know we won't be in our room much but have stayed in a couple of hotels where room was small. Just wanted larger room.
The other couple was thinking Viking based on all the advertising and website. Advertising does make a big difference. Again this is our 1st cruise of any type.

Hi: It will be two couples traveling together and our 1st river cruise.
1st time to Europe for two of four. Want to see as much as we can but also enjoy and learn the culture. Planning Basel to Amsterdam. Then plan to venture on our own for a couple of days.
Looking at Viking or Avalon. Will tour in 2015 late September. I have read many reviews on both cruise lines, visited with a travel agent and one company still doesn't win out over the other. Avalon wins over on price by less than $200. Appears Viking is a long ship.
Any other ideas to help make the decision?
Thank you to all who have posted about your experiences.

Would you recommend Avalon? Been to Germany and loved it but on land.
Also, is this a good cruise for a first timer?
Thank yoy
Bar Harbor Question
in Canada/New England

Hello, we are on the Dawn sailing from Quebec City. Our port times are 8-5. I know we have to go through customs and be tendered to Bar Harbor. 1st time cruising so no perks. Should I change our 10 Olli Tour through Acadia National Park? Thanks looking forward to this trip.
