  1. So we went on our first RCI cruise as adults (I went when I was younger). Well, every day since we've been back I have mentioned cruising... Already booked our next cruise in 2015.... And am now even considering doing one of these last minute short cruises out of port Canaveral they keep marking down.

I feel like I may have an addiction starting. Uhoh....

I even asked hubby and he gave permission for me to go without him as he's out of vacation days

How do people make the wait?!?

Would not have been so bad probably had the cruise not been overall amazing btw lol

  2. Sometimes they are just standing there watching so they can sneak in and tidy as soon as you leave.

Our last cruise in a GS. We gave him 25.00 we first got there. Even though we had prepaid . I knew our friends would be visiting our cabin often with their wine prior to dinner , so maybe a little extra work.

On another cruise we had three teens sharing their own room near us. Oh can you imagine all the make up and extra mess in the bathroom so I also gave extra 20.00 on first day. I guess that was a warning sign to him.

We normally stay in a JS and if it's just the two of us I dont tip extra. I do give 2.00 to room service each time they come .

So saying bring many 1.00 bills to have handy

I noticed our stateroom attendant was concerned with tidying when we left also. Especially since we had my time dining and we randomly would take an after breakfast nap, he was never sure when we would be gone! Since they clean twice a day, he would often chat and ask what our day plans were and things like that to get a good idea.

He was never awkward, but we are very social also so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not... But he would sometimes ask about the weather even, as sometimes he doesn't get to really be outside a lot because of working so much and for so long.

I wonder if the op 's first attendant was doing something similar, trying to get a feel for when he could go tidy up and things like that.

We learned about our attendants home country, work schedule, etc. And we ended up tipping extra because he did have to go out of his way to work around our schedule for when he cleaned. But you aren't obligated.

  3. The room service portions will seem very small to your husband most likely, mine is a big eater also and he was hungry immediately after (:

Now here was my experience... I called in room service for the morning as I didn't have a pen to fill out the card (bad thing to leave at home!) And they gave me various times so I selected between "8am-8:30am" around 8:45am I called to see where our food was and was told it was on the way... it arrived around 9am. This did put us behind schedule for our tender and made things a bit of a rush for eating. When he dropped off our trey he was running away as soon as my hands were on it. Tipping didn't really cross my mind because he was leaving so quickly, even tho the night before I had sat out some ones on the counter. It just all happened in such a hurried exchange.

Another time we ordered for a snack and it arrived timely, there was a knock at the door and by the time it took me to open it, he was already scurrying off down the hall! Where I would normally tip at least a couple of dollars, their behavior made me think maybe it wasn't customary. It left us a bit confused and a little uncomfortable with ordering room service?

Now that I hear it is customary, it makes me wonder if they were just so busy that they couldn't wait the second it takes.

  4. I've never cruised Carnival but my mother in law does. She is very Christian and conservative, doesn't drink at all.... And she took her family and loved it! So that tells me something...

On the other hand last time I sailed Royal a passenger was telling me he sailed Carnival once and they had to drain the pool from someone throwing up in it. He said it was a drunken party. Then years later he tried again at the encouragement of friends and he said he did not even bother finishing the cruise, he stayed at Port and got a plane back to get them off the ship at disembarkment.

I don't think my mother in law would ever sail Carnival if her experience was like that, so it really is all in what cruise you happen to get I think... I would be willing to try Carnival, personally. It's silly to not try it to see for yourself.

  5. Sabor is going on Deck 4 where the Crypt now resides. The deck 3 portion of the Crypt will be additional cabins. Giovanni's Table will replace Portofino. Also a bunch more cabins on deck 12 forward, similar to what was recently done to the Navigator.

I hope these additional cabins doesn't make it miserably packed on sea days. Did you see the pool deck on your sea days during this trip? I know on enchantment it was unbearable! On freedom there are a few sea days

  6. As much as I don't like the idea of dynamic dining, I would like to say that we met a lot of couples while on the MTD our last cruise. There was a 2 seater table right beside us and we met many wonderful couples, chatted, and continued to run in to them throughout our cruise and stay in touch! It was fun.

Us having a 2 seater table didn't actually cut down on meeting others.

We would also invite a couple to our table when windjammer was too full for them to find seats, etc.

There are still opportunities and we never met someone who didn't want to or enjoy chatting it up at food time with us.

  7. I was just on Enchantment of the Seas this month and everyone was talking about how they ditched their walkie talkies because so many people were on every channel so there was always interference. I say everyone, but it was probably a good 3-5 families who we heard complaining over a 4 night cruise.

  8. Since all my price watchers are here I wanna ask...

I booked thru a TA for FOTS next Sept 2015... for 3 people it is $1971 for a large oceanview, cat. F I believe?

$100 on board credit and we get 2 of the 3 gratuities paid for us...

How can I best keep an eye out for price drops? I know that we got the BOGOHO sale so it seems I'd have to go thru and act like I was booking it every day pretty much to see if it gets lower.

Do you guys just check daily or can you sign up for updates or use a particular site by chance?

I don't trust the TA to keep an eye open lol

  9. Thanks for your info. If my wife and I want to take photos, looks like we would have to swim separately.

  10. Wasn't it guaranteed by LifeProof though? I thought they had a guarantee on their cases.....

I had my phone screen bust in a lifeproof case when it never even dropped. (The back of the phone somehow just shattered, from being in my pocket). And they're only waterproof for like 50 on/off's. So if you remove the case a lot, they don't last long. I wish I remembered the exact number they told me, but 50 sounds about right lol.

To the OP: But we have phone insurance so we didn't mind taking ours snorkeling. Note III and iPhone 5, we knew the risk we were taking getting the cases. We tested them, they worked the whole trip. But no case is ever 100% obviously.

  11. We got some from amazon... All of $5-7. It had 3 zippers and a button snap. Once it came in we tested it by putting paper in it and submerging it in water. Worked great. Had it leaked they would have exhanged. We took it on our RCI cruise this past week and had NO issues. We kept ID's and sea pass cards and phone in them. I can send the link if you need.

I haven't been able to for several days. It may be too late to print those, but I hear it is a none issue for them to write you up some when you get there. I printed one extra, too bad I can't virtually send it to you! Lol
