  1. Michaels is not what it used to be and I'm a little surprised they're still open. When a restaurant goes from being known for their steaks to being known for their deserts, it should say something about their menu. The fondue is still their selling point, but there are so many better restaurants in Key West.

You are right on. We had the fondue one night, decent but not great for $56 for two! The other night was not good and also expensive. We won't be back, this place is a shadow of it's former self and is sad. We stayed at the Marker and it was close and we liked it before but we won't be back.

LOL, and we never made it to Hogfish grille. The weather was horrible, rained the entire trip. Oh well...........

  2. Thanks for all the help. It was Hogfish I was thinking of............it hit me at 3:00 at night in bed as usual.

One thing, esp for you locals, our favorite place, Michaels. We went there twice and not too impressed. Pricey, $36 for hogfish that was just okay, don't think we'll be back there soon. Too bad

  3. Ok, Mike "bhopal", PJK, Keywester and all you other knowledgeable Key West people, what is the name of the good seafood restaurant just off Key West on Stock Island?? For the life of me can't remember it and we'll be in town next week.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  4. You will love the Silhouette, she is a beautiful ship.

One note re: aft cabins on the "S" class ships. There are only two banks of Elevators on these ships; up front and mid ship. It is a rather long walk from Aft Cabins to the mid ship elevators. If you have mobility issues or if you forget something in the cabin it is a bit of an issue.

Even with the long walk we loved our Aft Cabin on the Silhouette back in 2011.

  5. Schooner Wharf isn't bad if you like quirky little bars. Personally, I think the place is dirty and I know the history of many of the clients (not good) but as a tourist, you might find the place fun.

Agree, it is dirty and I'd never eat there. However, what we like about it is the proximity to the Marina. If you go in the afternoon, you can see the fishing charters come in and watch them clean the catches for the customers. The Tarpon flock for the guts and it is quite a show. Then I go back and have a Stoli..............:D

  6. A Boston taxi should be on the meter from Logan to Black Falcon. The estimated price I'm seeing is an initial fare of $2.60, 3.6 miles for $12.42, tunnel toll of $5.25, Logan Airport fee of $2.25, and 15% tip of $3.38 for a total of $25.90. The taxi should take the Ted Williams tunnel directly to the Seaport area where it is only a few blocks to Black Falcon Terminal. After 9 am there should be no traffic. The mileage will vary depending on which terminal you arrive at with Terminal A being the furthest.

Carol, you are to be commended for all the great and correct info you provide to people on these boards. Kudos to you!!! A great person.

  7. Re: Boston Restaurants, IMHO Fanueil Hall is just touristy places and nothing stands out in my mind. Two other options: The North End, famous Italian section of Boston which is close to Fanueil Hall, has tons of great restaurants. Most are reasonable prices and most are excellent. Also, several bakery/coffee shop type places with the famous North End Cannolli's.

Also, a short walk (about two miles from BlacK Falcon cruise terminal) is Legal Sea Foods Harborside. This is Legal's "flagship" restaurant. It is right on boston harbor with great views, fantastic seafood, and great service. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for. Also, this place has three levels, the top level being a bar with a retractable roof and fantastic views of the harbor.

  8. Trying to understand the issue. We have probably taken over 100 cruises ( on the Eclipse now) and can remember the names of about 2 or 3 CDs. We could care less about their silly jokes or if they are good announcers. In fact, we think that the ones we do not remember were the good ones. So who cares. Good Chefs matter, Good Hotel Managers really matter. CDs? Who cares.

    Hank

P.S. The CD on our cruise seems like a nice guy. So what?

Sent from my iPad using Forums

As usual Hank, you are right on.

  9. I live in Europe and I don't think that there is any country that will sentence a cruiser using his foreign walkie talkies to jail.

Confiscate them maybe. Fine... maybe too, but jail? Hey we are in Europe, not the US ;)

Winking smiley face or not, I think this is a rude comment.

  10. AQ guests pay extra to eat in Blu. Suite guests also pay extra and can eat in Blu (assuming there's room) or their suite dining room.

Everyone can eat in the MDR and the buffet, the spa cafe, the specialty venues. And in their rooms.

I'm continually amazed at how people throw out misinformation on these boards.

  11. If you want to compare land vacations to cruise vacations, at least compare apples to apples. Unless you stay in a suite, your hotel must have a room that is about 180 sq.ft., which includes a bathroom the size of a phone booth. The buffet is run of the mill, I wouldn't compare it to anything else. Some of the entertainment is quite good but some suck. Drinks. On a land vacation you aren't stuck paying for highly over priced drinks. You can find a local place to drink or go to a grocery store and buy it at take it back to the room at a tenth of the cost on the ship. On a land vacation you can come and go as you please, you aren't stuck in one area for the whole vacation. After a couple of weeks, the ship life gets old. We hardly ever eat more than two meals a day so we are paying for something we don't use. We use the cruise as transportation like we do flights and cabs. The best thing about cruising is you can visit several different places and only have to unpack and pack once. The rest is just fluff.

My god man, why are you even on these boards??? This is about the saddest most negative post I've ever seen here. "Go to a grocery store and buy it and take back to your room"???!!! wow:confused::confused:

We'll take our fluff, you can go to Wally World

  12. Last November we pulled out of Miami and 2 hours later I smelled smoke!!! I stood up and began my hunt for the culprit from my perch of my treasured balcony. He was 2 balconies laterally away. I gave my lengthy warning as per Celebrity rules and that if I caught them again, I would turn them in and they would be fined and/or put off the ship.

That always works.......At 2:30am I am reading outside enjoying the sea air-what do I smell? I stood up and I could see his face with my flashlight. He looked at me as he was egging me on.

Security came, went into his cabin and took care of things. They spoke with me beforehand and told me I should have said something immediately. The smokers paid a chunk of money to clean their cabin due to the smoke inside, according to security. Security also said if the caused the slightest problem to call. They would be put off the ship at the next port.

I have run into a smoker at the beginning of a cruise 3 times, told them the rules extremely firmly and the consequences. They all never smoked again-What a pain! Celebrity makes it so, so clear!

Wow! Thank you so much, the world is a safer place with people like you on the watch!

  13. Keep in mind there are plans to "upscale" the BLU menu in the near future due to the opening of Lumenair. We were told it was so Aqua passengers wouldn't feel their restaurant was inferior.

This is great news. The food at Blu is great but a menu change and update is long over due.

  14. Very nice review. I too enjoy your style.

Kudos for you for taking your son by yourself on a cruise.

I have a son with Aspergers so can relate a bit.

You are lucky to have met Bev aka Nanatravel. We met her here on CC and also cruised with her and Sid. She was very very gracious and helpful to my wife and I when we were looking to relocate near her in South Carolina. Invited us to her home and took us around for several "tours'.

LOL, Bev, you know I'm always lurking somewhere. Say hi to Sid and Mark for us.

    Louis aka Luigi

  15. A little bit of an over reaction don't you think? Why not just let it go move on enjoy the day but I guess getting all puffy about it calling people up yelling and screaming and getting people fired would be the fun way of going about it:eek:

How does "have a chat" equate with yelling and screaming and getting all puffy about it. Posts like this are rude and insulting.

We all pay a lot for these cruises and should have excellent service, not snide remarks.

And that is exactly what I would have done, that is, ask to speak with a supervisor.
