I've never seen that to be an issue. Maybe don't go out so far next time?

It is not matter of going far out.  It is when you leave the water and come out of the water back onto the beach.  Sometimes the climb is a bit steep, and the sand moves under your feet and it is hard to get your footing.    Maybe we just visited the beach after a storm and the tides shifted the sand a bit.  So, I may be overthinking it 😐

Princess won't have any influence on how various island nations manage their beaches.  There are tons of Caribbean beaches with calm, shallow entries.  Why not do a little research for the islands you are visiting and make choices accordingly?

I have made my choices accordingly.    I had trouble once getting out of the water and fell with no injuries except my pride, but after helping few people out of the water that were truly struggling it got me thinking.   Maybe Princess could make the visit to the Princess Cays beach a bit easier for some folks.

We've been to all the Caribbean islands multiple times and I don't remember having this experience.  What island or islands are you referring to where this has been the case?

I should have been more clear in my wording.   The beach at Princess Cays beach was a challenge for some folks.   I did have to help a few people on Grand Cayman seven mile beach a few years back.   Maybe we just visited the beaches after some strong storms went through and changed the beaches.

  4. On our Caribbean cruises with princess we enjoy stopping at the islands and taking a dip at the local beach.   Sometimes I have a hard time getting out of the water and back on dry land as there is steep drop off on the sand/water line.   I have witnessed many people struggling and fall as they attempt to walk/climb up the steep sandbank.  Also, I have witnessed many people have other people pulling them up out of the water.    I have been thinking that it would be nice if there was a ramp of sorts that people could float or swim over to and then person could just walk up out of water without a struggle.   Has anyone on a cruise seen a ramp at the beach similar to what I am thinking about?  If yes, maybe I have missed it.  If not,  I was thinking of writing to Princess about my idea.

  5. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I have never cared for those open air vehicles, which the drivers try to Pack as full as they can, except for going back and forth between the ship and downtown. And when the ship is docked at Havensight, we walk to town.

I have never cared for those open air vehicles but went ahead and booked an excursion through Princess that included the open air vehicles for St Thomas. This excursion was last year before the storms and booking it was a big mistake. The companies simple try to squeeze to many people on the vehicles. The bench seats that are built for 5 can reasonably hold 4 people. My husband and I and another couple were the last ones in line to board the vehicle. We couldn't find a seat. The operators asked people to squish together but there still was not enough room and I was not going to squeeze into a tiny spot next to a very large sweaty man. It was obvious that my husband and I would not have been seated next to each other, and the the other couple from the ship were to be separated also.

I told the operators I had purchased a ticket and there was not enough room and I wanted to sit with my husband. I was told very rudely that "I purchased a seat and nothing more". There was not a Princess Cruise rep to be found anywhere near the excursion boarding area. I stood my ground and so did the other couple. The company finally sent a 17 pack van with driver to pick us up. The driver was a nice man but poor tour guide. We felt we were scammed.

I wrote to princess and never received a reply to my complaint. I did not ask for my money back, all I stated was that Princess should get a better handle on these tours that they endorse.

  6. If you really want a saving buy one on ebay for as little as $20. I usually trade in my elite mini bar for 2 coffee cards and then use one and sell the other on ebay.

Thanks for the hint. Purchased two on EBay today.

  7. I was on the ship and witnessed the invasion of flies. The worst area was the open decks on floor 16-17. The bars were covered with the pests and I mean covered. I wanted to take a picture but didn't want to make the bartender feel uncomfortable, who was just as grossed out and upset as the passengers. I think there were more flies on the ship than Amber Cove. Maybe recent flooding and decaying organic matter caused the influx of flies, or an unseen garbage dump.

  8. Did you find out what the smell was?

While at the front desk trying together get rid of one of the charges on my account I heard a Princess employee explaining to a woman the smell was from the vents. Not sure what vents or where they were. The passenger was questioning if the smell was unhealthy for passengers.

  9. When we were on the Golden last month they implemented the new Internet system that allows you to see your bill on-line. One day it wasn't there and the next it was. Great system. You can see you charges arrive in real time. You do have to set up a separate id and password the first time you want to see your bill.

Yes, that is how we saw the charges. It is a a great system. Glad we used it as we saw the charges within a few hours of them posting.

  10. Just got back from Nov 10 cruise on the Caribbean Princess. On three separate occasions we had charges on our account that did not belong to us. The Crown Grill $50, drinks at one of the bars for $20 and one for $2.50 at the International Cafe. We had all three removed but we did have to go down to passenger services for each one. Staff was very nice but we had to watch them go though all the charge slips one by one. The one for the Crown Grill had my name hand printed by waiter but another guests signature on the slip.

I do think all three were mistakes, but it did make me aware that accounts should be checked frequently. Not only check your acct but maybe we should all check that our own info is correct on the charge slips and not that of another passenger before we sign.

Cruise was very nice. Staff was very friendly. There were not many crowds on the ship except at the buffets. I was not impressed with the food selection on the buffets but it wasn't bad. Dining room food and service were great, we had anytime dining and never waited. Plus, I never had to wait at a bar! It seemed as though no one was drinking even though Happy Hour every afternoon was well attended. We brought two bottles of wine on board in our carry on. No one checked or asked if we had alcohol, I was shocked. We just walked right on the ship.

The ship did get a little stinky. One day we decided not to sit on our balcony because of the smell. We were in a dolphin mini suite mid ship. Heard many passengers complaining about the smell on the sixth floor towards the front of the ship. Not sure if it was the wind or speed of the ship that kept the smell floating toward our balcony.

Princess Cays was lovely, Nassau not so much. We just went into town and had to fight our way through taxi drivers and tour guides. Lots of shopping, many stores same merchandise. Not complaining, just not for us.

  11. Ask Princess by calling their 800 number.

I did, but rep could not give me a firm answer. I placed a call to the number and extension of the woman handling the upsell. My call will be returned sometime today I hope.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with OBC and upsells.

  12. I received an email from Princess last night offering a upgrade to a mini suite for $99 per person. This if for the Nov 10 Caribbean Princess sailing. We currently are booked into a balcony on the Riviera deck and have $400(200 per person) in OBC. When looking at the princess website today they are offering mini suites but with on 100 per person in OBC. Does anyone know if Princess will let us keep our $200 in OBC or will they say we can only have $100 if we go for the upsell?

  13. Figured it out. Called princess. If I would have let Princess choose my room I would have got the $200 more in on board credits. I can take a chance and let princess choose and get the credit Just don't want a noisy room. Will give it some thoughts. Any advice?

  14. We had booked a balcony on the Caribe deck Room C235 on 12 Sept. On 14 Sept received an upgrade notice to C 321. When we booked princess website showed $200 OBC. Thought it was OBC just for room not per person. New to cruising but after reading the forum and saw the deals folks were getting kinda started me thinking about the OBC. Language is not clear as website states $200 applies for guests 1 & 2 only.

  15. I am new to cruising. I have only taken one cruise, which was in the Ruby Princess this past spring. I can say my husband and I loved it. We just booked another cruise on the Caribbean Princess for November. I would like to say the customer is not always right. On our last cruise I was actually quite surprised by the number of guests on the ship that were just plain rude to the crew members. I witnessed so much complaining about the smallest details and felt some passengers were treating crew members like second class citizens. The crew is there is keep us safe and provide us with a stress free vacation. They are not there to be our servants. It felt like some passengers had a sense of entitlement. It was like watching Downton Abbey!
