  1. I was on the Dawn back in October, and there were a few lounge chairs on the Promenade Deck. Same thing with the Gem when I was on her in July. They want people to "lounge" on the sun deck and by the pool. The Promenade seems to be more for walking and taking in the sights these days.

  2. Does anyone know if the Gem has a special adult only deck? I so enjoyed the Breakaway sun deck, even though we paid extra for it.

Unforntually, no. And, there isn't a lot of room with how the sundeck is configured. There is an "adult's only" pool, but it is 5-10 steps away from the "family pool" and no one enforces the whole "adult's only" thing.

  3. I'm about to go on my third NCL cruise. I love the main dining rooms (not the premium restaurants or the buffet) so we end up there more often than not. To be honest, to my sister and I, the premium restaurants aren't really worth it. With that in mind, we did dine at La Cuchina (the Italian restaurant) on the Dawn, and Cagney's (the steakhouse) on the Gem. I love Brazilian food, and I would like to try Moderno, but I honestly don't feel like I'm missing out on much.

We paid for the UBP on the last cruise (in July) and we're getting it free on our next cruise (in January on the Getaway). We might not be heavy drinkers, but that seems to be what works for us.

As far as the 18% goes, that seems to be standard on NCL. There is also a daily fee with your stateroom. That is $13.50 per person per night. You can pre-pay this charge before you sail. I did that on the last cruise, and it was one last thing to worry about while we sailed.

I've had a blast on NCL before, and I think you will too. Have a great vacation.

    GSC!!!

We woke up at 7, and went down for breakfast at the GP. I had waffles today, and they were tasty.

Once we finished our breakfast, they announced our group for tenders to the island, so we went down the hall (from our stateroom) to the gangway.

About halfway to the island, it started raining. We were going swimming, so we didn't mind it. We went to the counter for our shore excursion (Stingray City) ad waited there for the squall to pass. Once it did, it was time to play with the stingrays. I love this excursion, and it is something I would do again in a heart beat.

The rest of the day we spent on beach chairs or in the water.

When we got back to the Gem, we were both hungry so we went to O'Sheehans for food. I had the meatloaf and a drink called the BBC. After that, we both took a nap.

When we woke up, we went to dinner where we had lamb and wine.

After that, we went to the Spinnaker for their version of Dancing with the Stars. Susan put her name in the bucket to be selected. And she was.

Unforntually, she was out in the first round, but it was all in good fun.

Shortly after that, we went to bed.

  5. Maybe not but they have the same mindset and want to please the boss so they will make decisions in keeping with the bosses vision.

Last three days? Nah, more like the last 3 to 4 months since Del Rio has taken over;).

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and I would hope they're not all that corrupt.

As for the last few months, I was in my pre-cruise glow, so I don't think I noticed.

  6. I tried taking that cruise almost the same week as you last year. Let me warn you, you're cruising during hurricane season. Be prepared for an alternate cruise. Hurricane Gonzolo hit Bermuda the day my cruise was scheduled to leave Boston. So, we ended up going to Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay (NCL's private island.) Also, if there is a storm, be prepared for rougher than normal seas.

I stayed in an interior stateroom on the Dawn. It is big enough for 2 people (though they might try and say up to 4 people can fit in the room comfortably.) There is a TV, but you'll get 5-7 channels for things happening on the ship, 2 channels of pre-selected tv shows and movies, and maybe 4-5 other channels that based on satellite signals may or may not work.

I spent a lot of time between Topsiders and Bilimi (I think that's how it's spelled. They're both on the pool deck) or Spinnaker (on deck 7.) With the UBP you will be able to get any drink under $11 that is not an espresso based drink. Normal coffee is available in the Garden Cafe (the buffet) and the Main Dining Rooms. You can get soft drinks if you need a caffeine boost though.

  7. Thank you, everytime I say that I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall lol.

    I feel the same way.

"Surcharges are going up! BURN DEL RIO!"

"Port times are changing! BURN DEL RIO!"

That sums up the last three days of posts on the NCL CC perfectly.

  8. If you're going for an earlier dinner (5:30-6) you can wear shorts in the GP. I was just on the Gem last week and I didn't see any shorts/jeans wearers get turned away at the earlier dinner seatings. I ate at the GP every night but Saturday (embarkation) and I think Tuesday (Nassau day).

  9. He doesn't have to because a part of it is already upscale (suites/Haven). The real matter is pricing and making changes to make it more 'premium' or upscale-like for regular cabins - that's what those changes to NCL are. It only a matter of time when Del Rio makes even more changes, without annoucing it to customers, for better or worse...

It's not just Del Rio. It's not like it's one person waving a magic wand saying "how can I piss off and screw over my customers today?" More than likely, it's the board of directors, shareholders or some other governing party that is making these changes. Just saying.

  10. At the end of the day, you get what you give out of a cruise vacation, and I, not talking about what comes out of your wallet. Yes, I know I've only been on 2 cruises now and they've both been with NCL, but hear me out. If people walk into the experience with a piss poor attitude (ie: OMG!!! Del Rio is robbing me BLIND!!! I've seen that a lot in the past few days) then you'll have a HORRIBLE time on your ship. You need to have he mind set of "I'm going to have a great vacation" and guess what? You will. After all, vacation should be fun, right?

  11. We are latitude members but traveling with another family who is not. Will they be able to checkin and board with us?

If you're booked under the same reservation, I don't see why not. Imo, it should work the same as checking in at the air port of one person is a frequent flyer and the other isn't.

  12. Quite a coincidence that ports in the Caribben' date=' Hawaii, and Europe all seemed to shorten and change their hours at the same time. I think we're pretty much getting all the facts.[/quote']

Look at what happened to the NYSE and United Airlines because of computer glitches. The fact of the matter is we don't know, and at the moment NCL isn't saying anything. Getting worked up and starting a riot over it if it turns out to be nothing won't fix things now will it?
