  1. In Grand Cayman last month, last tender was 3:15 pm (ship time) for a 4:00 pm (ship time) departure. Local time was an hour ahead so if you're booking yourself and not using Carnival Excursions then make sure you account for the time difference.

  2. What are you looking at that says NASCAR is in Miami in December? The season ended on November 16 at Miami-Homestead. No more racing this year.

There is an international art convention (Art Basel) that brought in 75,000 people in 2013. Maybe that's why the hotels are busy?

Also, the Dolphins host the Ravens on December 7 so there will be NFL fans coming in for the game.

  3. There is no way to predict the likelihood of any particular weather event weeks and months in advance. But I can say that I've experienced dense fog on Galveston Island in January and February throughout the past 20 years I've spent time there. Cooler air temperatures combined with the water temperatures leads to foggy conditions during those months sometimes. Cruise ships have been delayed coming into and leaving Galveston before.

I wouldn't worry about it very much because there is no way to plan on it. If you're delayed boarding because the ship cannot dock then you'll have to make some plans to pass the time until boarding can occur. Or you could be onboard and not able to leave for awhile, which won't affect things very much at all.

  4. We used Ripple cruise communicator on the Glory last month. You keep the phone in Airplane Mode and don't pay to connect to the ship's wifi. It uses it, but without logging in. No account to set up, no charges. It may not work on all ships but it did for us.

It is pretty well established at this point from the App Developer that Ripple no longer works on Carnival ships. It is blocked. I wouldn't waste your money or time.

  5. For two cellphones to communicate you would have to either be using WiFi or have data transfer active - both of which would cost money while cruising. No app can transmit or receive data to or from another phone with both WiFi and data turned off.

  6. Yes, it works the same whether you are booked as a single or double. In May I booked a December 2014 cruise as a solo on the Magic using Early Saver. Was originally $1681 for an 8B (deck 6 balcony midship) for cruise fare. I have received 4 price drops, 3 before final payment and one after, and have upgraded to an 8D balcony (deck 8 balcony midship) for $1328 cruise fare.
