  1. On our recent Joy cruise the most of the time the bar outside the Sugarcane was only serving the Eco-cocktail of the day and beer.  That was annoying.  For a couple days it was some cocktail made out of used (leftover) pineapple so that didn't appeal to me.  I feel this will be a short lived attempt at trying to be eco-popular.  p.s. NCL don't take up good outdoor bar space with gross drinks

  2. Getting off the Joy on Sunday, Feb 5th.  Flights back to Oregon aren't too good so it looks like we will be cooling our heals in LA until late afternoon at the earliest.

I'd never get the wife out early enough to do the Rodeo Dr sightseeing excursion and frankly I don't want to rush to get off the ship.  The big issue is our luggage since there doesn't seem to be any place to store it and I sure to don't want to haul it around with us.  Renting a car seems like a pain and the luggage storage services seem sketchy at best.

Anyone have any great ideas other than killing half the day in an airport?

    Thanks!

  3.

Done Howl at the Moon twice on the Epic and was amazed at the quality and energy of the performers.  Just got off the Jan 13-20 sailing of the Getaway and HATM was terrible!  The performers were just not good quality and were very lackluster in the delivery.  The blond female was terrible in my opinion...my wife felt the same way.

  4. Our family sailed on January 13 through 20 on the Getaway.  Two forward balcony cabins 8134 and 8138.

My cabin (8134) had a very strong mold odor in the bathroom when we boarded.  The room steward put bleach down the drains and that seemed to fix it for most of the trip.

Shortly into the sail everyone in the family was complaining of sore throat.  On about day three we noticed that the maintenance crew was accessing the HVAC equipment in the hallway several times.  We returned to our cabin mid-day and they had the HVAC cabinets completely opened up, exposing the evaporator units.  The crews were in overalls and wearing masks as they sprayed disinfectant all over the insides and scrubbed.  I know it was disinfectant because they had large jugs of it place in the hall and were using Hudson sprayers to douse the components.

Now that we are back the symptoms have remained, and we all have headaches, vertigo and post nasal drip.

Just curious if anyone else on that sailing experienced any ill effects?

  5. I was just going to get a motel about halfway for two reasons:  I thought it might be cheaper to stay there a night rather than Miami and that we wouldn't get in to PBI until 6:30PM.   We don't have to worry about getting to Miami right away because we have two days to kill until boarding.

Thanks for the input, I think that's what we will do!

  6. Five of us are heading cross country for a cruise out of Miami in January, cruise is Sunday to Sunday.

So far the least expensive flight option that also prevents us from having to scramble on the last day, is to fly into Palm Beach International on Thursday evening.  We'd rent a car then probably drive about half way to Miami.  Maybe spend the night in the Boca area and leisurely drive into Miami the next day and spend the night there Friday/Saturday.

On going home day we'd have time to drive back to be PBI and not be in a hurry.  We'd have the extra expense of a rental but then we wouldn't have to rely on Uber or shuttles and would have a place to store the luggage.  Plus it would let us do a little sightseeing.  Looks like the drive from PBI to Miami is about 1.5 hrs or less.

    Thoughts?

  7. I figured they would, but I’ve heard it’s pretty impossible to get in there for right now. I’ll be out there a few times this year, but I’m going to wait on that one a while until the hype settles down.

Wife and I went there in October 2017. In two words: Simply amazing!

The wellington was melt in your mouth good and the sticky toffee pudding dessert is heavenly!:hearteyes::hearteyes:

  8. After much debate, we decided to go ahead with two mini suites. I really wanted the Haven perks but wife felt that the separation of two cabins would probably be best for all. Now if it comes available to bid for an upgrade that's a different story!

I'm a little bummed but heck, it's hard not to have a good time on a cruise regardless of cabin so I'm not going to nitpick. I'll make sure to get Cruisenext certs and we will book a Haven for the next cruise just the two of us.

    Thanks for the input all!

  9. Just did mg first haven this month, 2br, and it was without doubt, the best!! I would strongly encourage this with kids, I had my 19 yo son with me who loved the small extra bedroom and perks. I would have easily put my two adult kids there with no prob. The benefits of the haven life are without compare!

Does the small bedroom have a pull down bunk in addition to the sofa?

  10. If he gets credit by number of booked cabins, he would possibly get something out of it. Hard to tell. As a past travel agent, sometimes agents will make the mistake of judging your trip by their pocketbook. I don’t think you mentioned the ship, but I have been in a 2 bedroom haven suite and there is no way I would book 2 mini suites.

That's all I could think is that maybe he gets a per booking spiff or maybe Haven bookers are routed to a different division and he'd get nothing? We are looking at the Getaway.
