1. It seems the whole point of even having a passport on a cruise is in case something happens and you need to get back home by air. It seems there is a greater chance of something happening at port, so I take mine. Mine did serve me well once in Nassau. I lost my ship key and was questioned by both members of the Bahamian Navy. They did ask to see a passport before checking the ship's manifest. I may have been able to get by with something else though.

  2. Unless they are playing the Dolphins or it's a nationally televised game (Sunday night, Monday night, Thursday night) it won't be on. Carnival has direct TV on their ships. I don't know why they don't get Sunday Ticket to at least show the games in the ships that have sport's bars.

  3. I think the limit actually hurts Carnival. I've seen many people trying to drink to the limit so they get their "money's worth". They're bad at math and don't realize that they got their money's worth after 7 or 8.

The requests for a mini-drink package with a 7 or 8 drink limit are ridiculous. Carnival isn't trying to give everyone on the ship a discount on drinking. They are figuring that those with the regular package will only drink 7 or 8 or less. I wouldn't be surprised if it averages out that Carnival still makes out when people buy the Cheers package. The idea is not to drink to the limit, and that is why Carnival should just get rid of it like every other cruise line.

They probably should offer a beer and wine package at a discount. They should also allow you to pre purchase either package online.

  4. Had a question regarding vaping if you could answer. My husband vapes and i want him to bring this on the ship because he is now on the lowest possible nicotine and has not picked up a cigarette in about a year. He carries different flavor juices . Do you have an issue bringing these on the ship?

    thanks :)

I've never had any issue. I've put them in a compartment in my checked bag and I've taken them on a carry-on as well. No issues getting them on an airplane either.

  5. But the problem is, can cruises really sell out with just locals? I'm guessing that they need to rely on people flying in from other locations, and who really wants to fly into NY in January?

The local population is huge though. Flying anywhere is a crapshoot in the winter. The cruises I have taken from NYC in the winter were booked to capacity, and mostly local cruisers. I also noticed quite a few international travelers. The lines running out of NYC offer newer destination ships with tons to do on those cold days, or they offer longer cruises. These seem to be things that Carnival shys away from.

  6. I've sailed out of NYC twice in the winter and am doing it again this October. It's a great port within driving distance for tens of millions of people with some of the highest incomes in the nation. Carnival can't compete there unless they put a ship there that can compete with the Breakaway or Anthem. They currently don't have a ship like that. The Vista class will be close, but it doesn't sound like they are planning on putting either one in NYC year round.

  7.
cantthinkofanythingfunOR retiredgram I was wondering if I could send either of you an email asking a few question about the area and such that my family has? Being you are form the area I thought maybe you could answer for me.

If you would like to email me you could as well at

    Thanks for your time.
I sent you an email. I'll answer anything that I can.
  8. How did you get the haven less than what it is listed for on their website? I have asked my PCC about any discounted prices and she just quotes what is listed. If the upsell department would just call I would take a H5 off their hands and pay the upsell cost!!!:D

I told the woman on the phone that she had pretty eyes. No, they were just running a special on the 2BR suites. It was two weeks to sailing and they had 3 of those left.

    I'll email you Stacey.

  9. Hey Sunbird, I don't know what kind of promotion you made your booking with, but I was in a similar situation with four people last year. I was trying to get two adjoining cabins, or even across the hall, but they were sold out. They gave me a really incredible deal on a Haven 2BR. It was substantially less than the online listed price. It might be worth a call.

  10. As someone who has lived in and around Baltimore for most of my life, I would not recommend leaving your car at that Best Western on O'Donnell Street for a week. Just east of that hotel is one of the worst housing projects in the city. Baltimore is in a bit of turmoil right now, and the police are on a bit of a work stoppage. They go to work, but they are apprehensive about doing anything. There is quite a bit of drug trafficking on that parking lot. They just recently shut down a night club in that building due to shootings and violence every weekend. I wouldn't even stay in that hotel. That Best Western near BWI sounds like a much better deal.
  11. Has anyone met the 15 drink limit, I mean wow that is alot.....

I've never done it, but it really isn't a lot with how watered down Carnival's drinks are. I don't drink at all during the day, but I'll usually have 7 or 8 at night. On my last cruise I saw many people pounding them at night to hit their 15 drink limit. They're bad at math and think that's the only way they are getting their money's worth. I think Carnival would do much better getting rid of the limit. It is the crew's job to determine if someone should be cut off. I see numerous people requesting a drink package with an 8 drink cap for like $30/day. That's not the idea. Carnival is hoping that people that pay the $50 will drink 8 or less.

  12. can someone expand on this? Is this something I have to have? nevermind it's something I need thanks John might have saved the cruise

I'm a single father and have taken my son on two seven day cruises. Once when he was 4 and last month when he was 5. If you have the same last name, you do not need the letter. The letter is to protect yourself if the child's mother raised some kind of a stink over the situation and got law enforcement involved. It doesn't sound like your wife would do that. Carnival told me that directly after my TA told me I needed a letter. My TA was wrong.

My advice would be to take advantage of the kid's club. My son loved it and wanted to go as much as possible. I did take him to ports with me, but all we were doing was beach days. He went to camp for two afternoons at sea, and every night. He even wanted to do the night owls thing a couple times.

You can do it. Make us men proud! I get so tired of the judgement that men can't handle kids on their own. That comes from men and women. My male friends are always telling me, "I don't know how you do it." That's because they couldn't take their kids to lunch at McDonalds on their own. They rely on their wives for everything with their kids. This should be an enjoyable trip for you and a chance to really bond with your kids.
