  1. It’s a hydro therapy pool and it’s very warm and bubbly. There are metal rollers you can lie on and just relax or there are jets of water you can stand under and they are great for tense shoulders. I have arthritis and I book the thermal suite on every cruise it really is wonderful.  When you are done in the pool you can use the heated ceramic loungers in the relaxation room, also very calming. There are showers to use also when you finish. To me it is worth every penny.  Linda

  2. I boarded the Zuiderdam on the 30th of January for a 14 day Panama Canal cruise and remembered I was promised tiles from our Alaska cruise in September had never arrived so I went to guest services and asked and she apologized for the oversight and gave me two tiles. Seemed easy enough, ask at guest services if you are on a cruise soon.   Linda

  3. On Jan 30th on the Zuiderdam we arrived at the port and they tested us before we could walk on the ship. Surprise for sure no one told us they would be testing us, wish I hadn’t spent $183.00 for the binax tests we did the day before ( we brought extras in case we screwed up), so they do have the tests at the port.   Good luck

  4. Just got off five days ago, hopped in a taxi at the dock, his meter ran all the way to the airport. Total came to $13.00 and some change, I gave him a twenty told him to keep the change it was miserable out, I wouldnt want to drive in that mess.

  5. I’m also high risk with psoriatic arthritis which has kicked my butt for the last almost three years, but I could go right now and get that lovely booster shot at University of TN medical center where I received my first two shots. unfortunately I need to take a rapid antigen test in exactly 18 days and I have read that it messes with the test and right now I need that Alaska cruise so I guess I will have to take my chances and hope for the best.  Linda

  6. I head to the dollar store before my cruise and pick up a couple packs of thank you cards ( they come 8 to a pack ). I like to write a little something in them and put a tip in those. I try not to forget the people behind the scenes such as the people I send my laundry to and that person you pass in the stairway keeping those handrails all clean. And I never remove the gratuities , EVER !

Thanks so much for your reply!  The Swan Oyster Depot sounds interesting.  Do you have any Chinese recommendations in Chinatown?

The family is researching that now as we are flying down to San Francisco after our Alaska cruise in September. Have not eaten Chinese but had read before our last to trips to the city that China town is not the greatest for the food and it has moved to other areas of the city, don’t know if that is true or not but DD found a place we will likely try called Hong Kong Lounge looks like the dim sum is interesting. Google it and take a look at the menu. It will be a bit of a trek we plan on staying around Union Square so taxi or Uber.   Good luck on your trip we have a soft spot for San Francisco.  Linda

Hi!  Does anyone on the Daily live in San Francisco or visited there enough to recommend restaurants?  I posted on what I thought was the right forum but have gotten no response.

In San Francisco we have eaten cioppino twice at Soto Mare (hope I spelled it right) it’s in the little Italy section of the city.  The cioppino is great but you will waddle out of there and you will need to walk all of it off.  Also for lunch Swan Oyster depot, get in line early and bring cash as that’s all they take.  These are both seafood based so hope you are seafood people.   Linda.  Happy eating

  9. Sorry haven’t posted anything in a while but have been following along every day.  So sorry for all the Texans suffering and hope everything settles soon and back to normal.  Birthday wishes to cruise mom, I beat you by 16 days.  Thanks all for your gorgeous travel photos, funny cartoons and memes, they certainly put a smile on my face.  My only news here is my dh snagged me an appointment at the university of tenn for a COVID shot and we went today. Easy Peasy in and out in 20 minutes, 15 was the wait time. It was pfizer and no effect from it at all, my arm doesn’t even feel sore, maybe I dreamed the whole thing but I checked and I have a card with the return date of March 12 th so I guess it’s true. I was worried the shot would make my arthritis flare up just like the flu shot does but knock on wood so far so good. We got home around 1:15 and about an hour later my dh tried again to get an appointment for himself and bingo he’s scheduled for 9:45 am tomorrow. The stars are aligning, so everyone still waiting you will get yours, hang in there.  Loved all the meal suggestions but we celebrated with Chinese tonight.   Stay safe everyone we are turning the corner it’s looking brighter hang in there.   Linda

  11. good morning all, always great to celebrate MLK. elementary school teachers an if I look amongst my numerous bookshelves I bet I could find a thesaurus somewhere.  Been real busy trying to complete my puzzle that is driving me crazy, no defined colors and just a real royal PITA.  my sister sent me a video I thought I would share (if my dh can load it) and hope it will give you all a laugh. enjoy and stay safe everyone until we can all meet on a cruise someday.  Linda.

  12. missed a day so sorry.  I'm going to see if my dh can post some pictures of me in Helsinki eating the wonderful salmon soup they had at the market down by the waterfront and the batch I made the other night. love that soup.  I'm going to count myself as a peculiar person so I guess today is my day. sorry don't care for grits so I will pass on that menu but I do like the alternative listed but we are having beef ka bobs (remember I don't have an oven so the grill will have to suffice). I have killed more house plants than I can count but I have a windowsill full of air plants and things I haven"t killed yet, give me time though you never know.  love all the jokes cartoons, people who haven't killed their houseplants (and have actually kept them 46 years). wow. stay safe everyone.  Linda

  13. Just gonna say if someone can get a shot go ahead, the more people who get protected the faster this nightmare will be over, and I really want to be able to travel in september.  I still dont know when our turn will be but I will be careful until such time.  rafinmd i love your alternative menu and would eat every last bite but i have some salmon thawing ( need to get some omega 3 ) and am making a salmon soup like I had in Helsinki on the Baltic cruise. oh my goodness I chuckled over all the cartoons they were great, thank you all.  oh and please take me off the list, its just a silly stove and everyone has much more need to be on the list.  wow some of the stories of appliance problems are pretty scary, hope no one else loses any, this is supposed to be a better year we were told. ha ha ha.   that’s all I need to go spend about 20 minutes not getting any puzzle pieces in place and feeling like an idiot then start my soup.   stay safe everyone.  Linda

When mine broke I could use the burners if I plugged it in, but there was a constant beeping that went along with it.  I had a lot of take out while I waited for the new one.  I don't think you were on back then, but it all started when I went to clean the oven using the self clean feature.  Never clean your oven!

I didn't know about steam clean.  Mine has a built in air fryer.

apparently you just put a pan of water in and it produces steam to clean. I saw the ones with the air fryer but was too rich for me maybe in my next life, besides we are hopefully( if the stars aline) meaning everyone can get vacinated we  are doing the fjords trip plus training around a few places in europe ( and we are footing the bill for all six of us).  then i booked. a panama canal trip for four months after that so watching the pennies.    linda
