Just to put the cat amongst the pigeons. Thomson are doing several itineraries from Newcastle this year. A broader age range and excellent value for money.

Pleased to hear you've got a result. Nice to move on and look to the future.

As I said in my initial review, service was painfully slow in MDR. This seemed to be a common complaint among many of the cruisers, probably due to staff shortages.
Every other aspect of the ship seemed to be very good. Would not put me off cruising on Discovery again.

Returned two weeks ago from Caribbean. Had cabin inside 6537, very quiet, near atrium and lifts so easy to access all facilities. Also it is near the centre of ship so very stable.

Been on the Majesty four times and always had plus cabins both inner and outer.
For minimal extra cost you end up with room to move around. Plenty of wardrobe space. Always had decks 4 or 5.
Would not entertain the standard cabins.

Yes jake 26 that is the configuration we had. Cosy little compartment behind premium.
When we returned from Jamaica in December 2014 we had a Dreamliner to Birmingham

We came back two weeks ago and it was 767- 300 series, same as going.
We had row 8 E,F going and 41 C,D coming home, seemed a little more roomy in the front rows.
Can't remember the cruise director or assistant cruise directors names but all entertainment team are very good.

Anybody changing from Thomson to Thomas Cook obviously has not done much long haul flying unless of course you have paid the premium to get a bit of leg room.
It's a no-brainer to stick with Thomson.

The MDR opens hrs in evening 6-9pm, all hours are published in the daily bulletin.
The captain makes his address at 8 PM in the atrium after photos for those who wish to have them.Prepare for a long wait to get in MDR unless you eat before the address. Enjoy.

Don't forget you are not in the Maldives, The restaurants like you to cover up, but there are several places where you can be more casual for lunch in the daytime. The snack shack is a place where you can grab and go,with sandwiches fish and chips, burgers etc. Everybody takes something different from a cruise holiday and pack clothes accordingly.
I'm sure you will have a wonderful time what ever you do.[emoji41]

We always use earplugs whether in hotel or ship for sleeping. They cut out the air-conditioning sounds and any other extraneous sounds. Wouldn't be without them.

I would say that about 50% wore DJs and another 15% wore lounge suits. Certainly non jackets were in the minority in the MDR. Although we dressed up for the second week we did not wait for the captains address as the previous week we had to wait about an hour with a pager to get in to the MDR. Hope this helps, i'm happy to answer any other queries.

Wow ! are we really on a Thompson ship. After sailing on four other Thomson ships we were amazed at the step forward.
We had an inside cabin on deck six which was comfortable and spacious. We were close to the atrium which gave us good access to the lifts which were plentiful for reaching the eating and entertainment areas
All public areas are light and airy. The main show lounge affords good seating without obstructed views.
The 47° and 47° Gallery MDRs tend to be rather cramped in busy times, and the service painfully slow. Gone are the wine waiters, putting a heavier load on the table waiters. Maybe we were unlucky in there being lots of new staff being trained up.
For regular cruisers, gone is the traditional captains evening, replaced by a dress to impress evening. Also gone is the baked Alaska tradition.
All in all the food is of a good standard.
Discovery Showtime takes on a different style of show which we enjoyed, but which had mixed reviews amongst a lot of the guests.
Up on the decks Sun beds are easy to find even on sea days and there is rockclimbing and minigolf.
Are we seeing the TUI effect, hope we do not lose the Thomson friendliness

Just returned yesterday from two weeks in the Caribbean on Discovery on back-to-back cruise. Men wearing DJs or suits were in the majority think I would've felt out of place in shirtsleeves. It's great to dress up and feel good. You will have a fantastic time.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your holiday despite all the negative's you seem to have found on the aircraft and the ship. Perhaps you ought to stick with Princess.

I think we all possibly a look around at one another in the airport and anyone we see with a barking cough hope that you will be not seated close to them.
As I have said on a previous post, we use Boots Cold & Flu Defence nasal spray. Using instructions on the box we have avoided coughs on our last four cruises. We also use it on flights with the same success.
Cruises are not cheap so very few people are going to say " I'm not well enough go on the ship" when it comes to embarkation.

Nice to hear of good experiences on the Dream. That is why it is important to try the ships yourself. Friends of ours went on maiden voyage of Ventura and hated it, we went on it last April and loved it. Having been on over 20 cruises we have
never had a bad one, some ships appeal more than others.
On our last trip on the Dream TA in 2014, first four days of 19 day cruise it's Sports deck was being converted to a Sundeck. A lot of new crewmembers had joined the ship after refit and did not seem to be fully trained up.
Since taking Boots cold and flu relief have never had any trouble with coughs either on the ship or aeroplane.
On Discovery at end of this month for 2weeks and looking forward to cough free holiday.

As far as the ship goes it has nice large cabins, and excellent theatre views from all seating.
It has its fair share of plumbing problems e.g. toilets overflowing et cetera.
Quite a few cabins have a bath with shower above which is very useful.
Layout in buffet restaurant not the best. Often unable to get a seat due to access to certain areas MDR very good though food is only average.
Easily the best ship to get cruise cough on. On transatlantic crossing in December 2014 virtually everybody had a cough and worse, some walking around with a drip lines in their hands for their daily trip to the medical department.
Have sailed on the Dream twice and had cruise cough both times, must be something in the air-conditioning system. Been on the Majesty four times and never had a problem along those lines.
Personally would never go on the Dream again but others think it is wonderful and keep returning to it. I guess the only way to find out is to try it yourself.

Good news Pensioncruiser, The new TUI Thomson will try and wriggle out of anything not like the good old Thomson who were very fair and held customer service as a high priority.
The head office attitude seems to be totally different to the people at the sharp end who are trying to do their level best for you. I expect there are many others like us who are looking elsewhere other than the Thomson product for their holidays.

Had a Cruise questionnaire yesterday 10 days after returning from holiday.
Did actually fill it in, a lot of it was meaningless, think they just want to know whether it was good or bad. Does anyone ever win the £2500 carrot. Won't bother again.

It's a holiday not a fashion show, lighten up - put half of it back in the wardrobe and go and enjoy yourself.
